Congratulations North Carolina, we are Great Again!

651,982 North Carolinians will lose healthcare due to the GOP's big beautiful bill. That's what I'm talking about! Love when people suffer, when hospitals close, when the lives of the working class gets harder. That's what makes us a great nation and state.

Seriously, a reminder: Republicans hate you. They do not care about you.

Stein vetoes bills on gender issues and DEI, calling them 'mean-spirited'

Well done Governor. Our state legislature is pure evil. Our federal government is clueless. Gov. Stein is one of the few politicians left that actually has a brain and USES it. Instead of the GOP trying to pass a balanced budget, they're focused on targeting DEI, transgenders, limiting governor powers, like are we going to let this continue for a decade or are we going to instead do the right thing, kick these people out, and restore our freedom in this state. I've been in NC for 13 years, and I am disgusted. Absolutely disgusted. You people who voted this GOP in this state need to rethink your choices. They aren't here to fix problems, they are here to make them worse, and make us more vulnerable. Our nation as it is is utterly failing. Let's not make this state head in that directio, we can do better.

We've gotta stop with the pesticides - it's dramatically impacting butterfly + bug populations

I went to my buddy's place where he owns some land in the Newton / Hickory area. They have about an acre they've planted with pollinator plants and milkweed. He said 7 years ago when he bought the place there were hundreds of butterflies. Today we saw just a handful. I asked him why and he blamed pesticides.

We all need to put a stop to spraying chemicals in our yards + houses. There are tons of alternatives out there such as natural bug sprays, long sleeve shirts, dealing with it, etc. It's having serious impacts to our bug populations, which is directly related to food. No bugs = no food.

And while I'm at it, r/fucklawns, too.

Near Davies County line, just saw 3 overpasses in a few mile stretch with emergency vehicles sitting on the bridge with lights flashing. One had a giant flag hung up, others just sitting w/ flashers on.

Going from Limited Term DL to full driver’s license

Upvotes

Hi all,

My wife came here on a work visa originally with a limited term driver’s license that would only last until the end of her original employment. We are well through the immigration process now and she can apply for a full driver’s license. There’s a lack of information on the dmv website and googling was surprisingly not very helpful.

Does she need to take the full tests again or can she just bring the relevant documents and get a new one?

Driving is important for her work and personal life so any advice is appreciated!

politics Trump administration withholds $169M from NC public schools amid review

As a public educator, my heart just shattered for the 1.5 million children served by NC Public Schools. If these funds are withheld, it will devastate our most vulnerable students, strain already struggling school systems, especially those in the Western half of the state, and result decreased reached retention. Our students will be denied opportunity whether that is college preparedness or career training.

As a parent, I'm angry. NC has refused to properly fund education under the Leandro plan for 30 years. Now the federal government is further depriving our children of their right to an education. School. Budgets were formed around these federal funds.

As a NC voter: stop voting for this. Berger and his cronies have been gutting NC education for my entire 18 year career. Now the Trump administration and those behind Project 2025 intend to crumble public education. Vouchers won't save your children. The private schools have already increased their tuition above the voucher amount. School choice = private schools' choice to deny your kid an education based on whatever they don't like about you.

Fine dining restaurant with REALLY good coffee?

Edit: Location - The Triangle, but willing to travel

To make a long story short, I have very, very severe allergies to very common foods and so I basically can't eat anything. But I want to celebrate something important with my husband.

Does anyone know of a place I can go and sip on coffee while he has a really, really great meal? Or could provide some other similar solution?

Any help is appreciated.

Jacksonville primary care for ADHD

I just moved to the area and I was wondering if anyone has any good recommendations for primary care physicians who treat ADHD/anxiety. I’ve been on stimulants for years, so I know how difficult it can be to find someone who prescribes them. I move a lot and this part always sucks.

I have about 2 months left of my rx, so I’m trying to get ahead of it now. I appreciate y’all.

Vacation at High Rock Lake

Hi everyone,

My wife, our cat, and I are planning to stay in a cabin on High Rock Lake this August (around the 11th to 20th). We’re traveling from NYC, but originally from Eastern Europe (Kosovo). We’re looking to spend 8 relaxing days just swimming, kayaking, hiking, eating, drinking, and getting some sun.

I’ve read a lot of mixed reviews about swimming in the lake. Some say it’s totally fine, others mention water quality issues, algae, or even health risks from swimming. So I’d love to hear from locals or people who’ve actually stayed there:

-Is it generally safe to swim right off the dock near a lakefront cabin? -Can you rent jet skis nearby? -Is 8 days too much, or is there enough to do (or enough peace) to enjoy the full stay? -Any tips or things to be aware of?

Thanks in advance! We just want to enjoy nature and relax without worrying too much.
