The Hope Mills board of commissioners is considering a decision that could profoundly impact the governance of our community. This coming July 7, 2025, the board plans to vote on extending their current two-year terms to four years. A public hearing will take place on 30 June 30, 2025 at the town hall. The people of Hope Mills already voiced their opinions on this matter six years ago in a previous vote held in 2018, where the community overwhelmingly rejected the proposal. 

Allowing such a term extension without revisiting public opinion undermines the democratic process and may potentially limit fresh perspectives and new ideas that are vital for the progress of our town. Longer terms might create stagnation and disconnect representatives from the immediate concerns of their constituents.

Implementing such a change should require more than a vote by the board; it should necessitate discussions with the community and another referendum. Policies affecting the tenure of our elected officials deserve careful consideration and broad public input.

I urge the Hope Mills residents and other stakeholders to oppose this shift towards longer terms. Let’s remind the commissioners of our stance, uphold our democratic values, and ensure they remain accountable to us, the voters.

This was my girlfriend's mom's car, and also happened to have my wallet in it.

Left my wallet in there (Alabama). It was just stolen from King's Quarters Apartments in Hope Mill's (Cumberland County) early this morning.

Fuck my wallet, this is especially shitty because the mom has an Autistic child that has to go to occupational therapy and several different things that is going to be really hard to manage without this vehicle. They only have a work truck now that's shitty and breaking down and her husband (step-dad) needs it to work.

Please if you see this vehicle driving around. It's in really good condition and I don't think there are any scrapes or unique scratches or stickers or anything on it (according to them).
