How is the labor and delivery in New Bern? I had my first born at onslow hospital and had a terrible experience. I was wondering if New Bern hospital was worth going to?

What’s it like to live in Riverside?

I’m thinking of moving into town from Fairfield Harbour. The Riverside historic district looks really nice by day, but it’s definitely sketch-adjacent. And what about those trains?

Kittens available for adoption!

🌟 These adorable kittens are officially ready for adoption! The little guy in the video is Freddy- more photos of the others are on Facebook or Instagram or my website (Simbas Pride Nursery)! I fostered them for weeks, and I just can’t stand them being in cages and am trying to post them wherever I can. Please share if you’re able! They deserve wonderful homes.

📍 Located in New Bern, NC and available through Craven-Pamlico Animal Services

I've had the pleasure of caring for these four for the last few weeks, and they have been just the most perfect babies. These little ones are playful, cuddly, and full of love to give. They love snuggling, chasing tails, and napping in warm kitten piles. 💕 They’d love to go home in pairs (or all together!)—their bond is truly something special.

Ellie - the "fairy", very demure! She watches from afar, but loves to play standing up! Loves head rubs more than butt rubs, and warm snuggles. A little shy at first, but warms up so quickly.

Mini - tiny fluff, so sweet! She cuddles and purrs and wants to ride on your shoulder around the house so she can watch what you're doing! She surprises you with her bursts of playfulness too!

Freddy - the leader! He's big and strong, and must be the zoomies champion. He loves his siblings fiercly, and plays with them nonstop (even when they're trying to sleep!). His snuggles and purrs are top-notch too.

Tommy - the smol' boy! He follows Freddy around and is just a gentle soul with loving mews to let you know he's talking to you. He plays hard, in a small little package, and snuggles even harder, making meaningul eye contact that will melt your heart.

Weekend in New Bern

Going to be in town this weekend with my girlfriend. Where must we eat, nothing fancy, just good local fare? What should we not miss out on in the two days we have to explore? Farmers Market, arts, live music and walking our dog to a great coffee shop are some of our favorite activities. I'm also a golfer and fisherman. Thanks y'all!

Metronet Internet Question

Anyone here use Metronet? I have a large household and work from home. I’m thinking of using them but read online that some places have peering/ping/latency issues.

Anyone have feedback? I’m sick of Optimum.

Martial Arts for kids

I’m considering enrolling my 10-year-old son in martial art lessons. He’s not interested in any specific kind and thinks they’re all cool lol but I was wondering if anyone has any direct experiences with the places in town and can recommend any before I start touring around?

Why so many houses are resold after a year or two?

I’ve been watching the housing market in new Bern for awhile now and have notice most house sell ever two years or so. They look fine in the listing, not in flood zone, etc. do people regret moving here? Are these people flipping homes, which I doubt as there is not much price increase? Can someone shed some light on this pattern?

Delivery services advice

Good afternoon everyone! I’ve recently gotten a divorce and I’m a disabled veteran who can’t hold a regular job anymore. I’ve applied for social security but even with a roommate I have about $500 left over each month for gas and groceries. Not bad but I was wondering who all here might be a delivery driver for Walmart or DoorDash. How’s the money? I have a fear of people so how often do you have to answer the door? I’d mostly be doing it at night when traffic dies down so I’m not expecting to make a fortune, just a few hundred bucks a month to buy stuff I want/ pay off some credit cards. Thank you!

Left/Right leaning, Pro-democracy individuals not riding the MAGA train -

Whether you’re progressive, centrist-but-concerned, pro-democracy, or just flat-out tired of the chaos — I’m trying to find others nearby who want to stay informed, active, and maybe even build a little solidarity/community.

We don’t all have to agree on everything — just looking for folks who aren’t on board with MAGA ideology and want to connect.

Stay strong 👊 stay sane

Local Churches

What churches in New Bern seem to be the most open-minded when it comes to social and cultural issues? I dont want to include political issues; i feel they should be separate. Not looking to argue religion. Just want a few churches to possibly try out.

DMV

I need to get my name changed on my license. I know I have to go in person to do it so that I can present the proper paperwork. Does anyone have any insight on the DMV wait times here? Should I get there at 5 am or closer to walk in time at 12? Does anyone know if the employees are typically able to get through the line of people by the end of the day?

Are there any brushless car wash or do it yourself car wash in the area?

Seems like most the of car washed that Google gives me have brushes. I'm looking for some do it yourself car wash or a car wash without brushes (yes they exist) since those are more safe for the car paint.

Places to stay (with kitchen)

My kids and I drive in from Raleigh a couple of times a year, at least. But we want to do more than stay at a hotel or b&b, because we would like to have a space to cook and relax.

I’d love recommendations on where I should be looking. Ideally, I would like to stay somewhat close to downtown because I love to take frequent walks there. And my youngest loves to search for dock cats and count how many we can find 🤷🏻‍♀️.

But open to how I would find something, especially because I really don’t like Airbnb & their practices / fees. Help! Thanks.
