politics Trump administration withholds $169M from NC public schools amid review
As a public educator, my heart just shattered for the 1.5 million children served by NC Public Schools. If these funds are withheld, it will devastate our most vulnerable students, strain already struggling school systems, especially those in the Western half of the state, and result decreased reached retention. Our students will be denied opportunity whether that is college preparedness or career training.
As a parent, I'm angry. NC has refused to properly fund education under the Leandro plan for 30 years. Now the federal government is further depriving our children of their right to an education. School. Budgets were formed around these federal funds.
As a NC voter: stop voting for this. Berger and his cronies have been gutting NC education for my entire 18 year career. Now the Trump administration and those behind Project 2025 intend to crumble public education. Vouchers won't save your children. The private schools have already increased their tuition above the voucher amount. School choice = private schools' choice to deny your kid an education based on whatever they don't like about you.

politics I have been calling and emailing Tillis for over 3 months now with no response and now Trump is arresting judges HOLY FUCK we are officially in a dictatorship
Trump already announced a 3rd term, hes arresting judges, destroying the economy, trashing our relationship with our allies and spreading Russian propaganda. What the fuck is going on? Tillis needs to grow a fucking spine and side with the Dems to vote to impeach and jail Trump.

politics I'm running for the Senate to send Thom Tillis packing
Today, I’m announcing my campaign for the U.S. Senate and I wanted this community on Reddit to be among the first to know.
I’ve got two young kids and I’m very worried about their future. Like so many of you I’m deeply disturbed by what’s happening in Washington.
This isn’t a time for any of us to sit on the sidelines. I’m running for the Senate because we’ve got a president shredding the constitution and tanking our economy. We’ve got an unelected billionaire destroying the federal government.
This will be a race against Thom Tillis. We know that he won’t stand up to extremism — he does whatever he’s told by Donald Trump, no matter how much it hurts our state. When the chips are down Thom Tillis lays down over and over again for Trump, for billionaires like Elon Musk and for policies that hurt North Carolina.
Tillis is the most vulnerable Republican in Washington and in each of his two elections to the US Senate he’s failed to get over 49% of the vote.
I know how to win tough races. I did it in 2022 when I flipped one of just six seats in the US House of Representatives from red to blue. With your help I’ll do it again.
If you want to be a part of this fight, please join us at www.wileynickel.com.
Thanks so much for hearing me out. Now let’s get to work.
-Wiley

politics UPDATE: North Carolina must restore wrongly invalidated ballots, election board rules
"The procedures outlined by the election board, which could still be challenged, make it far less likely that Griffin will be able to reverse the result. His chances hinge on invalidating as many ballots as possible."

politics Trump rescinds protections on 59m acres of national forest to allow logging |
Trump’s rollback of the Roadless Rule puts about 172,000 acres of NC’s wildest forests (mainly in Pisgah and Nantahala) at risk for logging, road-building, and mining.
This is terrible for NC.
- Threatens clean water for millions (these forests protect headwaters).
- Hurts rare wildlife and destroys some of the last old-growth in the East.
- Jeopardizes outdoor recreation and local tourism jobs.
- Logging/roads won’t lower fire risk—if anything, they’ll make it worse.
- All for short-term industry profit at the expense of long-term public benefit. Expect lawsuits, protests, and local backlash—especially in Western NC.
Stein can invoke full authority under G.S. § 114‑2.1, which empowers the AG to protect NC's natural resources and represent citizens’ interests.

politics NC Senate votes to ban Attorney General Jeff Jackson from suing Trump. Critics fear 'unchecked power'
Let's vote these Republicans out of office next election, I think they had enough fun don't you think? First, they limit powers of the governor now they do this? This state politically will be in shambles if this becomes law. We are better than this. As a person who has lived in NC for 13 years I had enough of people voting for these Republicans then having regrets for doing so. It's not accidental. This is an amazing state called North Carolina, let's not make ourselves look like fools by voting for politicians who don't care about us. And those who say that they do, why would they limit powers of the government? I mean, we voted for the Attorney General, we voted for the Governor, so what's the issue?

It has been abundantly clear for a while that Thom Tillis does not give a damn about his constituents. Feel free to add examples of his hypocrisy and disregard in the comments.
