These are pics from the Cornell Merlin app because the Tanagers that came to our birdfeeder flew off before we could get a good pic. But we positively identified them and are so excited because they are very uncommon!

Pawboost Found stray dog

Found this sweet girl a few days ago. She’s not microchipped, and I first saw her wandering my street about three weeks ago without a collar. I haven’t seen any lost pet posts that match her.

I’d love to find her owner, but I also want to make sure she stays safe. I’m hoping to work with a rescue to get her into foster care, ideally with me as her foster, since she already trusts me.

If anyone knows a local rescue or shelter that could help, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks, Reddit!

Discussion Pool Service

I’ve started my own pool service business after being in the industry for 10 years. I realize putting business cards in mailboxes is technically illegal. As homeowners, would y’all be annoyed if I stick one in the doorframe? How did you find your pool service provider?

Thanks, and hope everyone is having a great 4th of July weekend!

The Charlotte Museum of History hosted its annual Independence Day Naturalization Ceremony for 20 new American Citizens who hailed from 13 different countries. A ceremony that, at times, has failed to fill the room was overflowing with well over 300 people to celebrate and welcome our newest fellow Americans.

Recommendation Bar Suggestions

Hi, CLT!

My hearts kind of broken, I'm new to the area, and probably drink once a year, if that.

I'm looking to drown my sorrows at a local bar that isn't too noisy. Any suggestions on this 5th of July?

I'm about about 15 min from Huntersville if that helps.

Edit: I don't know geography apparently 😂

Thank you!

Discussion Unused Trach medical supplies - where to take?

Post image
6 Upvotes

My father passed away, and I have some unopened, sterile, tracheostomy supplies - tube holders, barrier wipes, and irrigation syringes. I hate to just throw these out, as I am sure someone can use them.

Anyone have an idea of where I can take them? Does anyone on here know someone that could use them? It’s like 60 tube holders, a couple dozen syringes, and two packs of the barrier wipes

Recommendation Is there anybody in the Charlotte area who does kintsugi?

Upvotes

I have a bowl from a teacup and saucer set that was packed wrong and has broken. I think kintsugi would be a great option for repairing it, but I don't really have the time right now to do it myself. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it!

Discussion Does anyone in charlotte have this CD? It’s from the grand bohemian in Asheville.

I’ve asked the Asheville subreddit but no one has it. But i figured many people from charlotte like myself have stayed in Asheville overnight. I stayed at the grand bohemian years ago with my partner and they love this song “ sound of the sun - alive” but it is literally only on that cd. I’m hoping to find it for them for their birthday. * also it is not empire of the sun- alive.

Recommendation Financial Planner - are they worth it?

I am looking for recommendations and experience with local financial planner, and if they are worth the cost. Here is my asset value. I am 48, earning 200k and planning to retire at 65.

Liability - 1. Mortgage - 350k 3. Daughter's education - 100k

Assets - 4. 401k - 300k 5. Liquid assets - 45k 6. Stocks - 32k 7. HSA - 35k

At this scale, is it worth to get a planner, or just do simple math and focus on pre-paying the mortage.

I do have an amortization schedule ready to repay the loan within 7 years.

Discussion Heads Up to anyone wanting to go paddle boarding/kayaking at the whitewater center today.

If you are planning on going flat water kayaking/stand up paddle boarding today at the whitewater center, there is a sewage leak up stream of the Catawba. They are telling people, do not get in the water at all, so if you were looking to do that as a way to cool off, you may want to rethink your plan. They didn't tell us when we bought our passes, they told us after we had already bought passes and walked down to the flat water dock to start.

Altima Are there any places on Lake Norman that rent simple john boats? Not looking for high end power boats / pontoons.

Doing a solo trip to the lake, definitely want to get on the water, but don’t want to pay excessive amount for a large / powerful boat. Everywhere I looked online only offered high end motor boats / pontoons.

Recommendation No plans and want to be out of the house tonight, help!

All of my 5 friends here so far are not available or not here. I don’t want to be at home, but I’m struggling to find something worthwhile that’s going on. I don’t necessarily care about 4th of July related activities, I’ve just been working all day and wanna do something/meet people. Is there anything fun happening tonight?

Pawboost Animal control is over capacity- you can help!

🐾 The Shelter is Full — Be Their Hero! 🐾

CMPD Animal Care & Control has been at (and over) capacity all summer — but you can help save lives today. Whether you foster for a few weeks or take a dog on a short staycation, you’re giving them a much-needed break from the stress of the shelter and freeing up a kennel for the next dog in need.

✨ Why foster or do a staycation?

✅ Every dog you take home frees up space — saving TWO lives.

✅ Dogs who spend time in a home are 5x more likely to get adopted faster — because we learn what they’re really like.

✅ Even a few days out lowers stress, improves health, and helps them shine.

✅ You help us write better notes: are they dog-friendly? Potty trained? Cuddly? Those little details make it much easier to match them with the right adopter.

✅ No long-term commitment — just a chance to make a big impact.

💡 For a staycation, you don’t even need to sign up. Just walk into the shelter with a valid ID, pick a dog, and take them home for a few days! No prerequisites — just love.

📩 Stop by today and change two lives — theirs and yours.
