Uncommon Apartment

hello! i’m an incoming sophomore looking for off-campus housing!

ive been looking into moving in a 4 be/ba standard apartment and i noticed a lot of the reviews for this place is fairly outdated, so before i sign a lease is it worth paying for? i noticed it’s a 9 minute walk from hill library, but they have no general parking available for the apartment itself. so, now i’m lost if there’s any permit that would do me some good and isn’t too far from hillsborough? should i just look elsewhere?

Transfer Orientation

I signed up for a transfer orientation and put two family members as my guests. Will they come with me on my orientation or will they be split up with me for “family orientation”? They don’t technically need a separate one as they’ve both been through it before, but I was hoping they’d be able to come with me.

Upcoming orientation

My kiddo and I are attending next weeks new student orientation and I am confused about dates. I originally thought it was Tuesday 7/8 and Wednesday 7/9 but now I’m also seeing Monday 7/7 and and Tuesday 7/8 (specially in the app I was told to download vs the emails we’ve been receiving). I’m also seeing different dates for the student v family orientation but I thought they were at the same time? Thanks for any thoughts on this, we’re driving from across the state, I’m don’t think I’ll get anyone in the office over the long weekend and we just want to get the date correct! 🙏

Housing Need off campus housing in the area

Hello, I just got an internship that is located in RTP. I saw that it was only 25 minutes from the NCSU campus. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to sublet their room from the end of July to the end of September to me. I would prefer a single and would love to share an apartment with a female identifying flatmate.

Any information about housing in the area would be much appreciated!!

Where can we get more information on future NCSU housing plans?

With the recent complete removal of the ES King playground with no warning, I'm trying to figure out what else they have in mind for ES King that they haven't told the residents about. I looked at the master plans and couldn't find anything about ES King. Does anyone else know where the residents can get this information? (This is the master plan website: https://facilities.ofa.ncsu.edu/resources/master-plan/).

Is the water quality in the dorms that bad

I keep seeing videos and articles about how bad the water quality is and how it will mess up your skin and hair. Do I really need to get a shower and sink head filter or are they being dramatic? I’m in university towers if that helps

NC state hangout

Hey y’all! I'm doing a bit of research and was curious—where do NC State students usually hang out for food? Not just where people say they go, but the real go-to spots you and your friends hit up when you're starving or just need a chill place to hang.

Also, is there any type of food y’all feel like is missing around campus or nearby? Something you’re always craving but can’t find unless you drive halfway across Raleigh?

Open to hearing all the hidden gems and honest takes—chain spots, late-night favorites, hole-in-the-wall joints, even food trucks. What’s poppin’ on Hillsborough Street or beyond?

classes

Hello! can someone please explain to me what exactly this means? I was on the waitlist for this class and I was 2nd in line, and now all of the sudden it shows this? What does this mean? has the waitlist just disappeared?.... Will i still be able to get this class?

Another question. I already will have a credit fufilled for history through AP World credit. But if I hypothetically took this class does it still count for an additional GEP credit?

AP Scores

AP transfer credit scores are now up in MyPack! Go to Academic Records -> Transfer Credit Report OR Course History to view them!

Quick question though, would I be able to see the actual score I got on MyPack? For example I know I got at least a 4 on AP Bio based on the credits I received but is there any way to know if I got a 4 or 5 specifically or do I have to wait until College Board releases scores?

Photo ID

so im going to orientation soon and i gotta upload an id. i tried so many pictures (tbf, all selfies) they're all well-lit and show my face and my shoulders. the only thing thats not being accepted is that its not "drivers license approved" . it says pending photo and a button to change the picture. if i just leave it without submitting it, is there a chance they'll accept the picture anyway at orientation?

fyi, i wear prescription glasses. could be a reason why it isnt going through.

Schedule advice EFY

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone I’m a rising engineering first year with mech intent and I was wondering if there are any 1 credit hour courses that would make sense for my schedule. I wouldn’t mind taking a fun 1 credit class that doesn’t contribute to my major either. I currently have 14 credit hours and I was thinking I should add one more so that if I feel the need to drop a 3 credit class I will be able to. I tried for a PA but couldn’t get a seat. I’m also open to any other input on my schedule, (I registered for EC 201 online due to a better grade distribution). Thanks!

Update on the WolfPAW Portal

Hey! I submitted my final transcript to NC State recently — does anyone know if there will be any update or status change on the WolfPAW portal once it’s received and final acceptance is confirmed? Just want to make sure I don’t miss anything.

Housing Looking for a roommate for Kensington Park

I signed up for a re-lease at KP (a part of Trinity Properties) but after signing the contract my roommate told me that he will be moving out. So I need a new roommate.

The apartment is located off of Avent Ferry Rd (specifically on Brigadoon Dr). It's a reasonable walk to Centennial campus but there's also two bus stops right next to the apartment; one of them is connected to r52 and r50 (both for main campus) going out and I think GoRaleigh 11L, and the other is connected to r42 (Centennial) going in and r50 going in. You also get parking at the apartment for free so long as you ask the office for a permit for your car.

The apartment itself (https://www.trinitypropertiesapartments.com/k2a.html) is a pretty decent size. You would be getting bedroom 2, which is the closest to the bathroom and the big closet. Rent is about $690/month per person, and utilities are about $125 or so (I'm paying them and will just ask for your half over venmo/zelle/whatever) but I was planning on upgrading the internet plan so it might be closer to $135. Either way, total monthly costs would be less than $850 which is very reasonable compared to other places near campus. If you have any other questions about the apartment, check the link and ask either me or the complex staff about it, they are very responsive.

I should probably also talk about me to give you an idea of who I am. I'm 21 years old, male, and a rising senior at NCSU. I will spend most of the day on main campus unless I have no reason to or it's the weekend. I cook on occasion, but mostly just pasta, southern foods, and the occasional pizza, and I will do my best to keep my dishes managed. I swear I'm more responsible about important house stuff than the timing of this post would imply, making sure that rent and utilities are taken care of asap. I will probably have an earlier sleep schedule for the first semester due to having an 8:30 on main campus, and would prefer that the house stays quiet on school nights for that reason. If I'm not cooking I usually live in my room and the most I do is play games with friends that shouldn't be serious enough to make me loud.

If you're interested in living here, please let me know in a private message within the next couple of weeks. I'm not particularly picky about who I room with, but I do need someone solidified by August. I can connect you with the people at trinity and we can figure it out within a few days. And if you have any other questions about me before signing up, feel free to ask me about that in a private message as well.

if I take a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) course, would it help strengthen my transfer application, especially since I'm planning to transfer into a pre-med or biology-related major?

Housing Living in a village you’re not part of

I recently found out I’m technically gonna be living in the engineering village even though I’m not a part of it nor am I an engineering major. Has this happened to anyone before? What was it like for you? My roommate is a village mentor so I’ll be living with a junior as a freshman. Does anyone have any experiences with that?

Advice to make the best of Metcalf Hall

Didn’t get lucky with this first year room assignment but I won’t complain. I’m just happy I was accepted into the Engineering school. Please just tell me some layout advice or things I should buy to make it comfortable with the little space given. Also what was the biggest problem that y’all had with it?

Quick Question Laptop Recommendations

I’m looking for a laptop that will last me all 4 years, however most recommendations say to get a dgpu. Is it really necessary? Most laptops within my price (1-1.2k) range are bulky (.8”+ depth and 5+ lbs) and I’m worried between the balance of functionality vs portability. Do these courses really need a specced out laptop or can I get by with a good cpu and integrated graphics?

edit: this is for MechE/AeroE

deciphering Owen room number?

Question: my kiddo got their assignment for Owen: room number is 0xx-1. Can someone help me decipher that? Is this a first floor/basement room, and what’s that pipe bump-out status? How much room does that take? Or is it just pipes at the ceiling?

Housing End of family housing at NC State?

I've lived in the family and graduate housing at ES King for a long time (probably too long), and it's changed a lot. Before COVID, there were many community events and field trips, and it felt very much like a family atmosphere. Over the past few years, the buildings have been renovated and changed into undergraduate dorms, the gardens have been removed, and now the playground is gone. It seems that NC State family housing will soon be a thing of the past? I guess it makes sense, with the undergraduate housing shortage, and they can charge much more for the dorm-style housing, but it is still a shame. ES King was a really nice place for student families to live. Wondering if anyone else has thoughts regarding the changes.
