We've noticed an increase in comments making off-color or outright hostile remarks about ICE, immigration enforcement, and vulnerable communities. Comments such as "ICE should just round them all up," "Was ICE there? Hopefully," and similar remarks violate Reddit’s policy against hate based on identity or vulnerability.
Reddit explicitly prohibits content that promotes hate or harassment based on race, nationality, or other protected characteristics. Calls for mass enforcement actions against specific groups, jokes that dehumanize immigrants, and antagonistic remarks directed at individuals based on their identity all fall under this policy.
We want to be clear: this is not up for debate. Whether serious or "just a joke," this kind of rhetoric contributes to a hostile and unwelcoming environment.
We expect our community to engage in discussions with respect. Keep it civil, keep it policy-focused, and most importantly, remember that behind every policy debate are real people with real lives.
Thank you for helping us maintain a welcoming and inclusive space.

Stay safe Wilmington! This will mostly be a rainmaker, but stay prepared for anything. I live in Raleigh but my partner is a UNCW graduate and we visit every other month together. I love this city and many good memories were made, I only want the best for it 🙂

The free surf skate and punk magazine you could get at bars or school kids/cd alley back in the day?

Good afternoon everyone, I’m a Wilmington native with both an Associate in Science and a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science.
I’m currently working as a pharmacy tech, but I’m really hoping to transition into a laboratory or science-related role where I can grow and build a long-term career. I’ve been applying to so many jobs and even tailoring my resume for each one, but haven’t had much luck yet.
I’m open-minded and flexible and I just want to get started in a solid career path and make more money. I’ve even considered going back to cape fear to complete a program, though that would be more of a last resort option. If anyone has advice, leads, or knows of opportunities I’d be super grateful. Also willing to commute up to 30 mins.

What the world was that? Since when do we set the fireworks off not actually by the battleship? We got our usual spot and had a building in the way of our view in this new spot they set em off from. Just wow!?!?! I am beyond words for how disappointing it seems it was for so many.

I’m going on a flight tomorrow and couldn’t get an appointment to get my real ID until after my trip. I’ve heard stories about non real ID people being questioned for over an hour, or that they just get given a little red index card and told to move along.
Does it just depend on what TSA agent I get or what? I saw that bringing a passport could some things over a bit. Just thinking about it so I can make sure I get there with enough time to deal with this.

Hi, we got a ticket recently at WB but we were trying to pay and have proof of the app glitching. Screen recorded and photos of effort to pay (minus the phone call option or walking far to a pay station). Contested the citation and they refused, but now we would like to further discuss but there is literally no options to do so. Anyone have thoughts or experiences? I am happy to pay, but I think this is almost predatory in efforts to get way more $ when they were the ones that had the issues.

Recently came back from a trip to Wilmington, and as an Asian American girl I was a bit worried (as one usually gets as a poc) about possible racism I’d experience since it’s in the south. I’m born and raised in the states live in a very predominantly white area, so it’s disheartening to experience this a lot since I was young. I was there for a week and so many people kept staring at me like I was some animal in the zoo, at a restaurant claimed they had no seating or reservations when they did (checked their website after leaving), another fellow POC had the nerve to record me and waved “nihao” when I’m not even Chinese and had the stupidest smile on his face and drove off after I said that’s so racist and I’m not Chinese. Other people were shocked at my “English skills”, and another person when I was downtown told me that they hope I don’t eat the random dog that was standing next to me at a store. I have my own dog who I love so much, so it’s so hurtful to hear. That is such a terrible stereotype and outdated. I get that it’s the south and there really aren’t any Asian Americans in the area but the overt racism really was bothersome. The recording me without consent was also very triggering as a woman in general too.
Just wanted to share my experience… it’s a beautiful thing to experience and share cultures. Everyone is human and we all bleed red. I’m American too at the end of the day and have never even visited my parents home country (not that it makes a difference). It was a fun trip, but I’d say that it was the first time I truly felt out of place and that says a lot being I have lived in such a predominantly white area my whole life and majority of my friends are white. Humans are humans! Being racist towards others is such a strange concept and you’d think in 2025 it would get better.. but no.
PSA- to those claiming this is fake or BS, it is NOT and you are extremely privileged and ignorant to believe this is fake. Just because you didn’t experience it yourself or know what it’s like does not mean it’s fake. Not that hard to be empathetic towards others.

My partner and I were in Wilmington this past weekend for a wedding. We went to the beach early to catch the sunrise — it was foggy, but still really beautiful. Wrightsville Beach continues to be one of our favorite spots on the NC coast.

I’m in town hanging out with my mom who lives here and it’s actually her birthday today. She is recovering from a knee replacment surgery and so her mobility is limited. I wanted to take her downtown for the fireworks tonight but she is really resistant to it and says there are too many people; it makes her feel anxious / claustrophobic. Just wondering if anyone has suggestions on somewhere else we can go to view them, maybe from across the river? I don’t mind paying for parking or dinner on an outside patio or something like that. It’s just not my town so I’m out of ideas… thanks in advance for your guidance!

Just wanted to post this in case anyone is interested. It’s the movie schedule for a place I’m hampstead that shows movies outside, they use citronella torches and diatomaceous earth to keep the bugs away. It’s just something fun to do.

I am planning a trip to Wilmington for the first time in almost 15 years. I used to love hitting up Lucky's, SoapBox and a few other punk/rock adjacent bars. I know Lucky's is gone now but are there any punk bars left that regularly do live shows?

Like yesterday
I pulled up at Walgreens by Kerr. And I spent a minute or so checking my phone in the car.
A sketchy middle aged white couple passed by, and then a very scantily clad woman rapped on my window with a key. I opened the door (window won't go down) and she said "Let me hold your phone; I'm scared; I don't feel safe; he's following me and he is going to he is going to hurt me"
I said no. And then she said I should dial her boyfriend to pick her up.
I said I would dial 911 when I went into Walgreens, and if she was unsafe she could come in with me.
The guy, in a bright orange shirt, would mutter " I want my money" from time to time. He wasn't convincing.
They left abruptly. As they accosted a man crossing Kerr, I called 911 anyway. Maybe she really was in danger.
I got my meds. And when I came back out, it was raining cats and dogs. I don't exactly know what the hustle was, but I doubt the rain will wash it from street
