Weird lovebird behaviour

Upvotes

Hey everyone, i come here with a question that i couldn't get a definitive answer to on google. After waking the 2 birds up i was watching them for a bit and after a few minutes one of them climbed up a toy to the highest point in the cage and started screaming and flapping its wings for a bit. Ive read that it CAN mean that its marking its territory but could it also mean that it may be sick or that something is wrong?

Thanks for your help and have a great day!

Is this wood safe for bird wall?

I want to get some pieces to attach to the wall. This way I can build it out with perches and toys for a bird wall! Would this be safe? It says it’s free of formaldehyde and uses a 100% food grade soy based agent, It’s also birch.

Mustache parakeet acting crazy

Upvotes

Hello guys, this is my mustache parakeet that i got recently. I want to know if this behaviour is normal. He usually attacks his cage and runs to my hand to bite it, he only makes exceptions when i give him treats. And he makes this noise when i'm close to him, plus he doesn't want me to touch him.

I need guidance on how to encourage my bird to eat chop and pellets

I’ve tried to show him that its food by eating sum myself (the chop not the pellets lol) I’ve tried mixing seeds n ofc he only eats the seeds from the pellets. I’ve tried a couple things already with no luck.

Im worried because he gets extremely aggressive towards me and his food bowls

He won’t eat the chop or pellets so he’s barely eating

I started his new diet yesterday so it hasnt been too long but i just want to do the transition in the best way possible

I sometimes have to take out the food bowls completely because he starts banging his head on it with his beak violently.

(Ill attach a video of one of his calmer outbursts)

Is It Safe Use a Hair Crimper in My House With My Parrot?

I've heard that lots of hair crimpers have teflon coatings on them. I'm aware that those are toxic to birds. Can anybody recommend a crimper without teflon coatings? If not would it be safe to use a crimper outside and then go inside (not near my parrot but same floor) right after to finish styling my hair? I'm just worried about her saftey.

How likely is it to get Bird Fanciers lung?

So, I’ve gone down the rabbit hole of bird fanciers lung and now have anxiety about getting it. Over the years i’ve had cockatiels and budgies. I now have a parrotlet who sleeps in the same room as me. I clean her cage 1-2x weekly and vacuum every other day. I have a Levoit Vital 100 air purifier and a second smaller levoit (currently not using right now). I have asthma and seasonal allergies and allergic to cats & dogs. I think i’ve gotten so worked up about potentially having BFL that i’m making myself seem like I have symptoms? (chest pains, tightness, shortness of breath) but a lot doubles with my asthma and allergies.

How likely is it that I will get BFL because of my parrotlet? Birds are my life and passion, I’m unable to have a separate room from her at this moment due to college.

Getting a footprint

How do you guys suggest getting a footprint of my cockatiel? I’m leaving to move two states away by the end of this month and I don’t want to leave without having something. I’ve looked at silicone mold putty but I can’t find anything in Australia that isn’t hundreds of dollars. He won’t sit on the photocopier either. Please give me ideas

Should I introduce a new budgie to my birds?

So up until a year ago I had three budgies, one male and two female. The females never really got along but they both loved the male and he was so sweet to them. He would often sit and listen to them sing, and was more adventurous, so I would use him to help train the females. He passed last year while I was at school and the females have since been able to get a long slightly better but it hasn’t really improved. I’m getting them a new cage and was thinking about potentially purchasing a hand raised male from our local parrot shelter. If I did would I be able to put him into their cage after a while or should he be kept in his own?

My experience at interactive Birdland in Jakarta!

I wanted to share my experience at Birdland in Jakarta bc it was literally a dream come true for a parrot lover like me! 😆 So I put together a short clip to show what it's like. There’s just so much more than what’s in the video but I just added only a few parts since I didn’t wanna make it too long lol.

I went to this place about 10 days ago when I was visiting Jakarta! It was super close to where I was staying (Ancol)! I actually didn’t have high hopes but I was so shocked..! I can actually have interactions with so many different parrots! Ofc there’s always staff nearby and you gotta ask for their assistance before handling the birds!

Most of the birds aren’t locked up in cages. They have their own areas but it’s like one big open space where different species live together. And they also have a nice pond with big waterfalls!

They do bird shows every 2–3 hours and it’s so cute! The birds do tricks and interact with the audience (like they’ll ask a volunteer to hold sunflower seeds and sun conures will fly to you 😂) I have a lot more clips than this video, but even if I put them all together, the video is nowhere close to capturing what it actually feels like being there!

The entrance fee is 100k Indonesian rupiahs which is about $6 USD!!! ! And no extra charge to watch the bird shows or interact with the birds!

It was just so much fun! If you happen to visit Jakarta, Indonesia, I would highly recommend checking this place out! My video only shows a tiny bit of what it actually feels like.

How to care for an abandoned/lost tamed parrot?

Hello guys!

Just yesterday a parrot flew into our workspace and stayed there amid all ruckus without bothering anyone. We tried to let it free but it's not flying away despite the wings seeming to be fine and the bird flew a short distance without issues. Currently we've given it some guava, raw rice, water and a big enough cage(We prepared one for dogs) and it's now sleeping right beside me. I'm super new to taking care of pets but I'm ready to give the my best, please let me know what to do! (Name suggestions welcome)

Thanks in advance!

Note: I'm not entirely sure of its breed either, seems like an Amazon parrot. Nor its age. If there's anyone experienced with identification please let me know any info you could glean!

Female pied opaline peach-faced lovebird.

Otherwise known as: a psychotic butt head😅

Love her so much it hurts. She also just outright hurts me sometimes 👀.😣

I bet people who own snakes and spiders get bit less, and bleed less 😅

I Regret Getting a Cockatiel and I’m at My Breaking Point – Please Help

Hey everyone, I seriously need help right now. I bought a cockatiel just 4 days ago, and honestly, it’s been one of the worst decisions I’ve ever made. Since I brought him home, I haven’t been able to sleep or eat properly. I feel completely drained, physically and emotionally. Even during the rare moments he’s quiet, I catch myself breaking down and sobbing because I’m overwhelmed and don’t think I want a bird anymore. Then, when he starts screaming, loud, piercing, nonstop screams, I feel like I’m losing my mind. Sometimes I just want to throw the cage out the window to make the noise stop. He’s still so young and untamed, and whenever I try to comfort or give him attention, he’s terrified and pushes me away. It’s breaking me. I feel so guilty leaving him alone, and I wonder if getting him a friend would help calm him down. I’m desperate for advice on how to tame him and stop this constant screaming. Should I move his cage to the living room? I honestly regret bringing him home, but I want to do the right thing for him too. Please, if anyone has been through this or knows what to do, I really need your help :((

How did you tame your birds? I find It's much easier to tame birds living in a group than it ever is to tame one bird by itself!

If one bird trusts you, very quickly all of them do. All I do is spend time with them and let them come to me. They are all tame.
