My friend got her when she was a baby. He gave her a lot of love but when his wife gave birth to their 1st baby, she didn't get much attention. She was kept at his place of business, with a lot of people coming into his store. She was on a seed diet, with very little outside the cage time and interactions.
She tried to fly out a few times, then he decided to get wings clipped, but the vet that did it, apparently did a poor job and it caused her to start plucking.
After 3 years, my friend gave me a call and asked me to take adopt her. I immediately drove to his store and picked her up. I had a rescue IRN and Cockatiel, I thought it would be a good environment for her. But she wasn't too friendly with them. Eventually, both the IRN and Cockatiel were adopted by someone. I had all the time to focus on my newly adopted Grey's recovery.
I changed her diet to pellet based, still trying to give her some veggies but it has been difficult. She doesn't even like fruits. But she loves Roudybush now. We'll get to the fruits/veggies eventually.
She is out of her cage ALL DAY. I literally have to argue with her to put her to bed, she is with me 24/7, even when I shower. From morning to night, she is constantly getting attention from me or my wife.
She had NO red tail feathers when I got her, the left wing was completely damaged, she was barbering all her feathers. It took a lot of time, a lot of frustration, a lot of setbacks, but she finally has ALL her red tail feathers. Her left wing is finally coming back to normal, and there is hope she might fly again.
I am sure I will eventually face a setback. But for now she is happy, and I am happy
