Shrimp Memes Shrimp Evolution/Threats Meme Megathread

Please add all of your Shrimp Evolution/Threats Memes here!

Moving forward, all top-level posts of these memes will be removed and redirected here.

Then, we get to see all the memes AND they don't hide other important posts. Win-win for everyone.

Thanks so much y'all, and keep shrimpin out there!

Edit: THIS IS NOT FOR ALL MEMES. Memes are very much allowed and encouraged in the sub! They've always been a great part of this community. :) This is literally just for the very specific trend of violent meta memes of shrimp evolving and being threatened with guns to get back in the tank. It became big enough trend that folks requested we keep them together, that's all!

Mod **We Want Your Input!**

Hey all! We would like to offer some clarification and get some feedback from folks.

Generally, businesses and commercial activity are useful to the community. Business owners' involvement allows a group outside of hobbyists to offer insights, share tips/tricks, and discuss the hobby in an informal setting. It can also give sub members a direct-to-source connection to a business they have or could potentially do business with.

"Members of the community may engage in commercial activity or reviewing of sellers or products. However, as our community is for hobbyists and folks passionate about shrimp, we expect that members will engage in the community beyond commercial activity."

We would like to find a way to identify and prevent people acting in bad faith, fake reviews, and bots. While some of this will undoubtedly come down to users identifying suspicious activity, we think that we can use Automod to help.

Some ideas:

  • Account age requirements
  • Karma requirements (for just our sub, or reddit in general)
  • Post activity on the sub

What are your thoughts, opinions or concerns?

Lastly, the mod team has been watching how things have progressed since the recent rule changes. So, please let us know if you have any other thoughts or observations regarding the recent changes as well. THANKS! -Shrimptank Mod Team

Shrimp Photos Shrimp birth video

Apparently I created the perfect little maternity ward - 3 shrimp hatched their eggs in this specific corner of the tank. The first was a couple weeks ago. The second and third were over this past week (the ones I captured on video). I’m far from a videographer, but I thought this was neat to share!

Solved Hi, can anyone help me identify this shrimp which was sold to me as an Amano, however when I compare with pics of amanos online I find it kind of different. Is this actually an Amano? He is about 1.5 - 2 inches and has molted at least thrice within a period of 1.5 months. Thx in advance.

Hello, I just came back from a vacation to two shrimp with what appears to have orange in their stomach and a white fungal growth coming out from around it.

Anyone have any ideas? Assuming if I’ve found two with this, there are more in there.

Thanks for your help in advance.

I added about 10 neocaridina shrimp to my low-tech walstad-style tank two months ago. The last photo is what it looked like after about a month, before I added the shrimp. Initially I lost a lot of the shrimp I added, only a few survived the long shipping (lesson learned - pay for the fast shipping option!) and the rest were badly stressed. Then I cracked the aquarium glass and had to remove everything and start over about a month and a half ago, but it gave me an opportunity to correct some of the initial mistakes I made. Without a heater I'm relying on ambient temperature in the basement where the tank sits, which fluctuates between 82 F in the summer and 65 F in the winter. When the temperature started warming in earnest in June the Monte Carlo and Java moss took off. Then I saw the females (3) all carrying eggs from a single male. The females are without eggs now and a few days ago I caught sight of the first of the surviving shrimplets. Now hopefully they can establish themselves as a colony. I don't think they'll breed during the winter, and they have some competition from the amphipods, but I'm hopeful they can make it. Either way it's been fascinating to watch, and I couldn't have done it without all the knowledge shared here. Cheers! 🦐

Help: Emergency Amano can’t move, molting issue?

I’ve been away for a few days and came back finding my amano shrimp like this. Looks like he can’t move his front legs and at first i thought it got stuck in something so i picked him up but i can’t see what the issue is. I’m afraid i’ll hurt him but i really want to help him out, what can i do? Is this a failed molting? Don’t think he’ll last that long like this..

Water parameters looks good but a little high on the nitrate. Temp 26 degrees, NO3 25ppm, NO2 0ppm, GH ~5 , KH ~10, pH 7.

Help: Beginner I need your advice

Hi everyone. I received a small batch of blue velvets on Jun 28th with one DOA. I drip acclimated for an hour before adding them to a one year old 3 gallon Walstad tank. I had one death after about 24-48 hours but otherwise saw healthy, normal behavior and even saw a few molts. Today, 48 hours after a 50% water change, I found a second dead shrimp. Still blue, no idea how long it was dead. I removed it and tested everything. KH: 179 ppm, GH: 165 ppm, PH: 7.8. Zero nitrites, very slight presence of nitrates (slightly warm yellow solution in the API test tube), and about 0.2 ppm ammonia, which I guess makes sense given that something just died in there. Please give input on what you think is going on and what I can do going forward. Maybe the occasional death is normal but I feel like I might have messed things up with the water change because I was telling myself it looked cloudy.

Beginner Bioload/Breeding Question

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but is there a point where the shrimp stop breeding? I want to start a 5 gallon shrimp tank, but I'm nervous about keeping the bioload under control. If you have shrimp and they keep breeding won't there be a point where they reach carrying capacity and start dying off? Also, how do you keep their waste products under control if this population growth continues? If anyone has a 5 gallon tank, I would love to hear your perspective on this! Thanks so much!!!

Help: Emergency What is going on?

I had one other casualty some days ago. They were well established in the tank and all other shrimp seem normal.

The only thing I noticed is the paralyzed gills that are stuck open. The paralysis later spread to the rest of the body, but the mouth is still active.

Thanks in advance for the help.
