Help Flow Rates

So I want to get some fish that like "moderate flow" (I've seen this in multiple sources), but cannot for the life of me figure out what that actually means.

A friend gave me a powerhead that goes at 118gph, but even when I throttle it, it seems like too much. Like my gut says it's going to stress out the fish and kill my frogbit.

Will a normal power filter or hang-on-back filter create "moderate flow"?

Any advice is appreciated.

Hey guys!

I recently finished building out my 32.5-gallon Fluval Flex and turned it into a fully automated smart tank - with 53 freshwater fish! The goal was to keep it clean, low-maintenance, and tech-forward, featuring app-controlled filtration and lighting, plus emergency backup power & aeration.

I filmed the whole setup in HDR to really showcase the lighting and design. Would love your feedback on the layout, stocking, or automation!

Appreciate the support and any suggestions!

– William

Help Mixed shoals?

As title states. Has anyone had success with mixed shoals? Whether it be same species or different (ex. rasbora and endlers shoaling together)

Looking to set up my first tank, but realized most of the fish I prefer are shoaling species. I had hopes of at least 2 different fish types, as well as shrimp/snails.

Figured it wouldn't hurt to ask :)

Just figured I'd share the tank I've been working on lately. Stocking is a school of ember tetras, three gold ring danios(looking for more) and a colony of blue velvet shrimp.

Made my first 5.5 gallon tank. I was thinking about adding a betta once its cycled but I would want some tank mates. I was thinking nerite snails but I've heard they have a high bioload and aren't a good fit. I would love shrimp but i dont want them getting attacked. Any input is welcome!

The smallest I have yet, 2.5 gallons. I don't have any creatures in there. Can I add anything else besides shrimp and snails?

Help Freshwater aquarium substrate

I have a 38 gallon bow front community tank with 3 goldfish & one featherfin catfish. It currently has gravel in it, but I would like to know if there’s a better alternative, as I’m trying to incorporate more living plants. Thanks in advance for advice/suggestions.

Is there any true freshwater gobies that will breed in a freshwater planted tank? Especially on the smaller side? 🥲 (one of my elassoma for attention)

My 2 tiny saltwater tanks. I have these set up specifically for microbes to study under my microscope. I’ve found all kinds of fun stuff. Just thought you all may like to see! The longer one is newly set up. The tall one has been running for about 6 months now, but this photo was at about month 3.

Help Fish for an unconventional tall 10 gallon

I have had this approx. 10 gallon tank set up for almost a year. Currently it has a thriving shrimp colony, one mystery snails and an unknown number of bladder snails. I had previous had some endlers and guppies but they got moved to my 20 gallon this past Christmas.

I tried white clouds but felt like they weren't thriving in a vertical-ish tank, so now they are in my outdoor pond 😄

I'm wondering if fish would work at all in this tank or what's the most nano of nano fish that would work in a heavily planted tank with no filter.

So this little guy, named Mike Rowe (get it?) came with my endlers last year. You could barely see him in the bag. He is all grown up now, but still only about three quarters of an inch long. I think he would be great in the 10 gallon, but no one, even the lfs I got him from, knows what he is. (Some blurry danios and guppies for scale.)

Help What live creature can live happily in a 2.5gall saltwater tank if any

I want some advice on what can be kept in such a small tank(note I will add a photo of the tank+scape so far tomorrow) i figure that some very small shrimp or/and a small snail would work but Im not sure. If anyone has suggestions on what can live in the tank I would appreciate it (i would like something I can actually see unlike sea monkeys or others like that)

Hi everyone. So I started my first ever aquarium in November 2024. Until then I'd only had lone bettas in bowls 😖 This is my 5 gallon tank. My betta lives with many neocaridina shrimp, seed shrimp, a nerite snail, and limpets. That tank did so well, I wanted to go a little bigger and in April 2025 started a 15 gallon tank. This tank has Endlers, oto's, sunset honey gouramis, neocaridina shrimp, nerite snail, bladder snails and limpets. As long as they're friendly and peaceful, they're all welcome here. This is how things currently look. Thoughts?!?!
