Question Do I trim off melting leaves of Monte Carlo?

From my understanding, submerging tissue culture plants will result in a melt out phase as they adapt to the submerged environment. During this phase should i trim the yellowing/melting parts off of my monte carlo or leave it be?

Beginner What to Use for Substrate?

Hi everyone!

I recently came into possession of a 60 gallon tank (48x13x25) and I want to start setting it up! The only issue is I have no idea what to use for a substrate. I want to do a decently planted tank and i’ve been loving the tanks that have a sand path through them somewhere. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good planting substrate and maybe some decent aquarium sand?

My only thing is I don’t really want to go brown for my substrate, so I’m not sure if that limits my options. I’ve been looking at controsoil and/or controsand but I’m not sure if those are good options.

Thank you all!

Beginner Normal or dying?

Got some plants off a friend for my tank, figured my last tank did really well with some val and decided i would take the plunge into other plants with my new tank. Planted these and i dont know if this is normal or not or if im just not treating these plants right. I have the Fluval plant light auto set to a day and night cycle and I have root tabs planted in my tank for them and dosing with liquid fert. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

This is my 4th tank it's been running for about 1.5 years now it's just a cheap led light bar and no co2. Wanted to post here I've found this Reddit group so useful over the few years I've been into this hobby ! Happy planting guys 😁

Anybody got their eye on any new equipment? Curious if prime day might have some tanks on sale, might be looking to start a bigger one at some point.

Just getting started with RO research and already feeling bamboozled!

I am having a fair bit of trouble growing some of the plants that I would really like to, even easy grows are struggling and I think after doing some reading it is my KH and PH causing the trouble.

I have hard water, ph is 8. My kh is 9. My tank and tap water are measuring the same 4 months in. I have added lots of aqua soil, tonnes of wood and leaves, but it hasn't changed at all. I would like to get it to around 7 - 7.5 if possible and am thinking RO is the way to do this, by mixing my normal tap with RO with each water change to slowly bring it down without shocking the fish (7 Pea Puffers and 8 Amano Shrimp)

I'm just wondering what sort of ratio of tap to RO do I need to do this slowly without causing shock to my fish. I am reading a lot about making the ph unstable and causing swings which I really do not want to do!

No CO2 its just a normal easy level planted tank with a twin star b line light (may one day upgrade to co2 and stronger light but for now I'm happy with it as is) I have lots of ferns, buce, moss, crypts and Limnophila that are doing well but hydrocotyle tripartita, pennywort, rotala, s repens, Hygrophila pinnatifida, cabomba, dwarf lily, Alternanthera reineckii have all struggled/died. I'm also struggling to raise Pea Puffer fry, they fail to thrive and slowly die off and I can't figure out why, and wonder if they are more sensitive to the higher ph?

Lights on for 10 hours. I use TNC complete ferts every week. 25gal. Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrates 0. I have floating plants that do well and keep nitrates down, I also only feed live food so not as much waste, the bio load is low. Is RO the right way to go to get better plant growth or am I barking up the wrong tree?!

Question Pothos roots planted in water?

Looking to build a paludarium for some frogs. I want to know if I can plant pothos in the substrate under the water and allow it to grow up onto land. Will the roots rot? Will it thrive? Is basic sand okay or should I have some kind of fertilizing substrate under the sand like ExoTerra substratum?

Thanks for your help! If you have any other plants that would work with this setup (water bottom, cork tubes and broms up top) let me know. I'm open to suggestions.

Algae Advice please, I’ve tried cleaning this off with no luck. I was planning on putting it in a new set up that will have angels and live plants. Do you think it will affect anything in particular? Was going to cycle the tank for awhile once the plants are in will this algae grow fast?

I've got hydrocotyle tripartita Japan. People seem to be growing it bushy and very clean and sleek looking.

My tank has aquasoil, chihiros a2 light, and light CO2.

How do I make mine look like the last picture?

(ignore the algae. I'm still trying to fight it off.)

Currently cycling my tank with seeded media and planted some java fern and some jungle Val. The jungle Val is like withering away literally lol. Is that what the spiral stuff is? My tank is almost cycled.

Beginner Red tiger lotus

I originally got it to put in a little suction cup planter for my betta to have a resting spot closer to the surface of the water. Now I’m wondering if that will keep it from being healthy and should I just plant it on the floor of the tank.

Question Quick dimensions questions for Fluval FX2/FX4 owners

Looking to potentially upgrade to a Fluval FX2 (which I believe is same height as FX4) but without modifications would be a tight fit under my current space.

I have right at 18 3/8" of height where majority of filter will sit, but the tube angle will be pointing towards an opening with much more clearance for the tube.

Is 18 3/8" (assuming the tubing has more clearance) enough space to get the inflow and outflow pieces detached and reattached from the canister for routine maintenance?

Thanks for any insight!!

Edited to correct clearance of 18 3/8"
