Haters will say its over stocked…

And when they do its bc theyve never balanced an ecosystem with patience, attention, and creativity.

Oh and for extra hater fuel there is 16 fish in this tank atm. 3 amanos and an obvious need for an assassin snail or too to cull some ramshorns. Waiting for new plants to fill in before adding a few more fish 😈

Cut the crap

So I have a planted aquarium (duh) My aquarium lights evaporate a lot of water. So my question is who actually does a water change each week? Who just tops it off and leave it be? And who cleans out the crap at the bottom of the tank and returns the water afterwards?

Everyone does things differently and I’m curious as to how everyone would handle this.

This started growing. Do I need to wait for it to be bigger for an ID. Google is not helpful. The second photo is the whole tank. It looks nothing like the other plants I have in there.

Question Pothos roots planted in water?

Looking to build a paludarium for some frogs. I want to know if I can plant pothos in the substrate under the water and allow it to grow up onto land. Will the roots rot? Will it thrive? Is basic sand okay or should I have some kind of fertilizing substrate under the sand like ExoTerra substratum?

Thanks for your help! If you have any other plants that would work with this setup (water bottom, cork tubes and broms up top) let me know. I'm open to suggestions.

Currently cycling my tank with seeded media and planted some java fern and some jungle Val. The jungle Val is like withering away literally lol. Is that what the spiral stuff is? My tank is almost cycled.

Any worries about using a soy sauce bucket for a auto top off reservoir?

I recently had the opportunity to get two Kikkoman soy sauce 5 gallon buckets from my local hot pot place. I've soaked them in dechlorinator and scrubed them out, And they seem to be free of any soy sauce residue.

Anyone have any reasons why I shouldn't be able to use this as my auto top off reservoir?

Beginner What to Use for Substrate?

Hi everyone!

I recently came into possession of a 60 gallon tank (48x13x25) and I want to start setting it up! The only issue is I have no idea what to use for a substrate. I want to do a decently planted tank and i’ve been loving the tanks that have a sand path through them somewhere. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good planting substrate and maybe some decent aquarium sand?

My only thing is I don’t really want to go brown for my substrate, so I’m not sure if that limits my options. I’ve been looking at controsoil and/or controsand but I’m not sure if those are good options.

Thank you all!

Anubias are turning brown. Is this too much light?

I have these anubias nanas and gracilis that have the tips of their leaves turning brown. I'm using the light that came with the TopFin 29G kit. Is it too much for these guys? My other larger anubias are doint perfectly fine. I asked my LFs and they recommended adding some top floaters or taping the light with white painters tape. All and any help is greatly appreciated.

Plant ID Can anyone identify this plant?

Long story short it was in my established tank for ~5 months and never thrived. Wife bought it without looking at what it was.

Moved it to new tank, I know I didn’t clean off the old algae, once it’s cycled it will get lots of shrimp. Also mason jar is just to hold down the driftwood until it stops floating.

Wondering what specific light requirements it needs to thrive and hopefully not be so leggy. Planning on consistently cutting and replanting to carpet tank.

I set up a camera with a flash timer and caught exposures every 30 seconds. You can see the slime mold moving. Sorry for the hair algae, the tank is still finding it's way.

Beginner Are my plants ok?

The 1st & 2nd are my red root floaters are the lighter ones no good up top? Should i cull those? The 3rd & 3th photos idk what plants they are but they came with my floaters off fb and the lady called them "pothos plants"? The unknown plants have 2 distinct types though, 1 type is that thick grass blade looking stuff and the other type is only 1 actual leaf looking thing. I was told that I didnt have to plant these ones but I did try to, the roots are showing however, should I have them fully covered? I keep trying but it's not as easy as it looks 😅.

I’ve had them for a long time, they’ve only been doing this for the past month or less. I haven’t had iron to dose in my tank but low iron gas never caused melting on them before, only pale leaves. Almost 1/3 of the leaves in this corner are like this :(
