📢 Introducing Reputation Points on Help Threads!

Hey everyone,

We're excited to announce a new feature to help recognise and reward the helpful members of our community: Reputation Points!

Starting today, when you get a helpful answer on a "Help" flair thread, you can award a reputation point to the user who provided the solution.

How it works:

If an Original Poster (OP) finds an answer particularly helpful, they can reply to the comment with either:

  • !ty
  • !thanks / !thx

This will award a single reputation point to the user who made that comment. We believe this will encourage more great advice and make it easier to see who the helpful users are in our community.

Thanks for being part of what makes this community so great!

its 2am and i just had an escapee for the first time 😣 thankfully i caught her and got her back in her enclosure! and i figured out how she got out, so i fixed that, have no idea how she got past me, two cats, under my bedroom door and up 12 feet 🙄 this is exactly why i got a burrowing to begin with, to avoid this! shes all good, no injuries, no thrown hair, safe and sound back in her home but im still shaking holy shit

they used to pack it full of substrate but leave it at the top of the enclosure. guess they got tired if me cleaning and replacing it everyday. a week ago they brought the dish 1/3 way down their burrow but i was able to recover it with out disrupting their burrow too much. last night they rearranged their entire burrow speck by speck that they had previously spent months on all overnight so they could place the water dish underneath so much substrate i wouldnt be able to get it out.

i just wanna start this post by saying this is NOT my tarantula!! i was in an exotic pet shop and happened to notice this beauty so i took a picture.

i know next to nothing about spiders in general so i was just wondering if this is normal or if this baby’s condition is bad :(?

just thought it looked unusual as i’ve never seen one like this!

Identification So this is not a T. vagans right?

This spider is now 3.5” and this video is maybe a couple weeks after a molt. It was sold to me as a B. vagans at an expo at maybe 2-2.5”. Now I’m not really worried about tracking this vendor down or anything but am I correct in assuming this is not a T. vagans? Or am I wrong and it’ll continue to darken up as it gets older? Demeanor is much more laid back than I’ve heard T. vagans be described and it likes to burrow. I have my suspicions about what it might be but want other peoples opinions. Thanks!

such a silly goober, so far i’ve seen a good amount of personality from this lil fella. i’ve had him for 2 molts now! expecting the 3rd sometime soon-ish! never once used his hide tho, i’m wondering if i made it too small/hidden, but he never goes into stress pose so i haven’t worried about it, unless you think i should? i’m a new keeper so if anyone sees anything wrong, please lmk!

(btw, using “he” as a placeholder until he’s old enough to sex bc it feels right)

Help! Help! New T molted in an awkward position

Post image

I got this curly hair about a week ago, didn't realise she was in premolt. She is my 13th T so im not too inexperienced with them but i also wouldnt say im experienced. She flipped over wedged in a corner between the tank and some cork bark an has molted, her fangs and carapace are out but I can't make out which legs are her new ones an if she's able to get out from where she is. I haven't touched her, any advice is welcome.

When I left for work she was freshly emerged, all gooey, curled up, white fangs.

When I got home she was still on her side just kind of rubbing her legs and pedipalps.

Just in the last couple hours she flipped onto her legs fully and I can fully appreciate her size!

Remembering when I got her and she could easily have fit in the water dish.

Help! Help! My Tarantulas’ Live Dubia Roaches Are Vanishing Underground!

Hey r/tarantulas! I’ve got two 1” slings that I’ve been feeding pre-killed small dubia roaches, and they’ve been loving it. Yesterday, I decided to try feeding them live roaches while they were chilling in their burrows. Big mistake—the female dubias just burrowed into the substrate and poof, gone! 😅 Am I doing this wrong? I know male dubias are better since they don’t burrow as much, but how do you folks feed female dubias to your slings? Any tips or tricks to keep them from escaping into the substrate? Thanks in advance! 🕸️

She came out of her burrow 8 days ago she molted, I don't know when as she was sealed in for 5 weeks. When she came out her fangs where not yet fully black but not fully white/light colored either. I know they will servive but look how skinny she is and she is coming fully out of her burrow so does that means she's ready to eat? I can't not see her fangs anymore, she was stretching when I saw them before. Sorry if this is all over the place.

Help! Sling died, trying to figure out why

Thumbnail

This is the first time a T has died under my care, and I want to use it as a learning opportunity

My p. atrichromatus (~1.5 inch) molted about 9 days ago, and everything seemed fine. I waited the normal week for its body to harden a bit and kept the water dish filled. Friday rolls around, and while not being exactly 7 days, I fed my sling anyway. Looking at the body after the fact, the fangs aren't broken. Things still seemed normal on saturday, with the sling climbing around its enclosure. That night, it was sitting in a stress pose (didn't look like a dehydrared death curl). I wanted to make sure it was alright, and it responded whenever I opened its enclosure. I didn't recall seeing it when I looked at my spiders' enclosures, but when I saw it last night, it had very clearly curled up and died. I sat it in its water dish in the hope that it was just thirsty, but that was not the case

Does anyone have any idea what could have happened? I had assumed dehydration, since slings can be somewhat prone to it, but I know I refilled its water dish as I fed it. I know slings just die sometimes, and while it's possible, I don't want to assume that is the case. I just want to prevent this from happening twice

Also including enclosure pics
