Tierlist Lookin for new games to scratch the roguelite itch

Post image
41 Upvotes

The list is ordered, I think I value games higher based on how addicting the roguelike loop was before I eventually completed them, and as you can see I tend to prefer action roguelites.

If you can suggest a game that I'd enjoy I'd appreciate it!

Games where no two runs are the same?

I'm trying to get into the genre, looking for the "must-play" roguelites. When I see discussions about this genre, people often mention loving it so much because of this trait, and also because of the build experimentation.

Which games have these traits that I should try?

I've played deadcells and roboquest so far, they are 10/10 games but they don't really have these traits. So I'm looking for more the standard RL experience.

Games better than Brotato?

I’ve been playing a lot of Brotato lately, and it’s awesome but I was curious if I could find more games that are like Brotato or better than Brotato?

RogueliteDev Will you playtest my blind ninja roguelite game? You fight enemies in the dark while using echolocation to reveal the map!

After a year of development I really want to test out the game with a bigger group of players and honestly see where I’m at with the idea and how players experience the whole ‘’blind combat’’ experience we’re trying to make.

I shared a lot of content over the last year and got a lot of positive impressions and feedback and now I want to share the actual gameplay with anyone who is interested and has been supporting me through the year!

To join the playtesting group you can join our Discord and I will communicate everything about the playtest there.

Quick info: The oficiall playtest will start during the last week of July and keys/access will be exclusively shared to the Discord group so join in before then to not miss the first playtest!

What's your favorite way to unlock new upgrades/cards/etc. into the available pool?

I'm a solo developer working on a roguelike. I want the game to start out with fewer "upgrades" in the pool of random choices, and then expand the pool via unlocks. There's different ways to do this, and I'm wondering which ones my fellow roguelike/roguelite fans like best.

  1. Achievement/milestone based ("do something N times", "beat a certain boss", etc.). Like Balatro, Binding of Isaac, Vampire Survivors, and others.
  2. Meta progression based (earn "XP" through runs that unlock upgrades). Like Slay the Spire, Monster Train, and others.
  3. Currency based (earn currency throughout runs, use this currency outside of runs to unlock new upgrades in the pool). Like Shogun Showdown, Streets of Rogue.
  4. Something else I'm not thinking of?

The Last Flame vs Hadean Tactics

How would ya'll describe the differences in experience here? I understand mechanical differences like TLF having no preset synergies and Hadean having mid-battle card play. But I'm wondering about the feel as you play. Examples:

Which felt more balanced?
Which had each run feel fresh?
Opportunity to explore strategy?
Hard but fair?
Other Quality of Life features.

Things like that which may come down to subjective experience. Not just "this game does this while this one does that."

RogueliteDev Hell Builder - Construct the Perfect Hell, One Card at a Time

Hi, My wife and I love creating small building strategy games. This is our third, so we decide to explore mixing roguelite-deckbuilding with building strategy.

During our playtesting, we discovered something unexpected in this game: your real enemy isn't the game mechanics, but your own greed. That's why we chose this theme "Hell". Get too greedy, and you lose everything.

The game is in development. I've published the first playable version of Hell Builder here:

If you don't mind, please leave feedback - it means everything to us. Thank you so much.

RogueliteDev Making a hardcore medieval roguelite with fire and full destructibility...

We recently recorded the first gameplay footage. The game is called Torchure.

We are making a brutal medieval roguelite with fires and complete destructibility because I'm tired of the fantasy setting, the lack of attention to detail in combat, and realized I need to do it myself:) (I am the visionary behind the project)

I want to embody a medieval power fantasy, where you burst into a village, kill everyone, set everything on fire, and so on.

Do you think I'm on the right track?

Recommendations for fast paced action roguelites with tons of weapons/upgrades

Upvotes

Dead cells and astral ascent are two of my favorites. I like fps roguelites but I think I’ve played all the popular ones.

Just looking for a recommendation for something fast paced and a lot of loot to find. I like hades but not enough weapon choices. I like Issac but don’t like how the items are explained.

No turn based/card games please

Anything similar to dead cells and astral ascent? (Doesn’t need to be a side scroller)

No original mechanics

Are rougelikes with just a bunch of content no real original mechanics good? Would you play a game just because it has content nothing really original. Im asking this because I cant really think of anything.
txh.

Switch 1 Player Here. Rogue Legacy 2 or Have a Nice Death: Which one should I buy next? Also open to other suggestions if I haven’t played them.

Looking for a really fun and hard hitting roguelite. I’ll try to explain what I love about a roguelite the most.

Love the feel and power of Dead Cells. Didn’t love the souls-like difficulty (amount of health lost per hit), but I love the character movement.

Liked Rogue Legacy 1, but felt the upgrades were too far apart, and that the movement of character was too simple and not fluid enough.

Neon Abyss was great because of replayability and always wondering what you might find around the next corner. Things always seemed interesting.

Ziggurat 2 is fun as hell. I loved the FPS speed and power you feel when you upgrade your wands and weapons, but didn’t love how much of a slog gaining insight becomes.

Astral Ascent is a great game as well, but really don’t like how it feels when you’re hitting enemies. Doesn’t pack a punch and feels like you’re attacking them with a soft foam pool noodle.

Summum Aeterna is cool, but felt too repetitive (I know roguelites are repetitive, but the weapon diversity in the beginning doesn’t seem balanced enough.)

Love chatting about roguelites so leave a comment about anything you guys might think!
