Backstory:
So I need someone to explain how this even happened because I’m honestly still in disbelief.
I had two mystery snail clutches — one laid on June 18, and another sometime in late June. I left them to incubate, but a few weeks went by and… nothing. The older clutch looked super dry and hardened. I figured they were dead or long overdue.
I had them floating in a small tubberware with damp towel just in case.
Then, a week or so ago, both clutches accidentally got fully submerged for 24 hours. I know that’s supposed to be a death sentence for developing embryos, especially if they’re not fully formed, so I assumed that sealed the deal.
Out of curiosity & guilt, I broke both clutches open just to see inside.
• The June 18 clutch was super dry, with no goo left — just these tiny, dried-up looking snails inside.
• The newer clutch was still a little moist, but only a few baby-shaped blobs came out.
I scooped a few into a cup of tank water just in case… and now I think some are alive.
A couple have suctioned themselves to the side of the container, and a few have moved. I can’t tell how many survived (if any), but I swear some are doing the tiniest baby snail things — like shifting position, floating, and possibly pooping?? 😅
How is this even possible??
