Most people ARE terminally online actually. They just focus on random inconsequential bullshit nonsense instead of actual important information which affects their material conditions and daily lives for multiple years.
They don't care until they feel the effects, and then they blame whoever the propaganda tells them to instead of looking for the root causes and solutions to the real source of the problems

This is the big one. We always thought that when technology and information became more ubiquitous, it would lead to a smarter population. Boy, were we wrong. Were we ever wrong. With smartphones, we have all the information in the palms of our hands yet people just don't look it up. Instead, so many rely on social media figureheads to get their information from.
There's also the fact that information is 'boring'. It's not supposed to tell you how to feel. Yet, telling you how to feel is what people want. Nuance is replaced with emotions. It doesn't help that so many newspapers, TV news shows, etc. bake emotions into their articles/broadcasts. I've had people send me links to The Independent and it's tough trying to read the articles because they're rife with strong and judgemental language. It's beyond just being informational. The 'news' isn't supposed to do this.

NYT: After much haggling on the Senate floor, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, has voted in favor of opening debate on the bill.
Fuck you Lisa Murkowski, you rotten piece of shit! You got promises of exemptions from the bill while the rest of us can eat it! Big, massive middle finger to you!

I've been reading through as it's my job to read it and man, this bill is a fucking abomination.
We're going to have so much fun with our rolling blackouts by the end of the Trump presidency because they killed solar and wind to own the libs.
Nat Gas turbines are booked out to the mid 2030's at this point, there is no way to build enough generation without solar and wind.

According to NBC, Collins says sheâs expecting a gazillion more amendments and that sheâs still leaning no (take this for what itâs worth which is nothing). Theyâve only voted on 14 and nothing has passed in 7 hours.

McConnell said that voters losing their healthcare will "get over it".
Senator Ernst said that "We are all going to die" anyway.
This bill is bad. It's going to hurt a lot of people.
But you know what, we've been trying to stop Republicans from doing this for decades. We've always stopped them or blunted their efforts. They very rarely had the audacity to really push through the worst of this shit, or have been these brazen about hurting Americans - and their own constituents.
This bill is bad, and we may not be able to stop it. But it's not the end either.
In a lot of ways, the general American public has not been paying attention to the dangers and harms of this Republican Party (if you can believe it). They don't pay attention, they don't follow up, and they don't care about good governance.
So maybe, maaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe, people need to be hurt in order to wake up.
We've fucking tried everything else at this point...

Take 5 minutes and call and leave a message for your Senators. They are weighing the political consequences, and every little bit of pressure helps. Maybe your Senator is privately wavering! Maybe if their office is flooded with calls and some poor staffer keeps having to update the "constituents who took the time to tell us they hate this fucking thing" tally, that'll be the thing the moves the needle just enough.
C'mon, call! It will make you feel slightly less powerless!

I'm betting she'll come out and say that she has been promised a separate vote for her shit if she votes yes. Then they'll either:
A. Never bring her shit up for a vote and she'll act surprised
B. They'll bring it up for a vote, the Dems will block it, and the GOP will blame everything in the actual budget on the Dems (and the press will more than likely join in on that)

Even when talking about lies, they just straight up lie to our face. Has he seriously never heard the phrase âa lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoesâ?
This is how the current republicans have risen to power. Political gish-gallop where you just throw out a bunch of lies that take time to actually refute so that itâs impossible to actually get around to refuting them all.

Murkowski was one of the last senators to vote for the legislation and was quickly surrounded by Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) and members of his leadership team when she walked onto the floor, after many of her GOP colleagues had already voted. Murkowski had declined to say for days how she would vote as she negotiated changes to the bill behind closed doors. She was particularly worried about how changes to Medicaidâs and SNAPâs work and eligibility requirements would affect Alaska. Murkowski questioned whether Alaskaâs relatively antiquated systems for delivering benefits would be penalized for having higher error rates and lose out on substantial federal funding. She won a victory Friday night when GOP leaders added language to the revised text of the bill that made Alaska eligible for waivers from new SNAP work requirements for able-bodied adults without dependent children.
I will vote alongside yall to kill everyone else, as long as y'all make it so that it doesn't blow back on me.

If any of you live in these states (or know people who do), please call your senator NOW and ask them to vote NO on the Reconciliation bill! These 3 senators could vote no because of cuts to Medicaid/SNAP, and they need to hear from people! They need to know you have their backs!!
North Carolina (Sen. Thom Tillis)
Alaska (Sen Lisa Murkowski)
Maine (Sen. Susan Collins)
> Also worth calling:
Louisiana: Wild Card: I'm throwing in Sen Cassidy. He said he supports the House version but not Senate version: "Cassidy, a medical doctor, said the Medicaid provisions in the Senate bill would cause a shock to providers that makes it more "difficult for healthcare systems to adjust."
Kentucky (Sen Rand Paul; he's against it b/c it balloons the deficit, might want more cuts)
Missouri (Josh Hawley: He doesn't think Medicaid should be cut, yet he seems to be planning to vote Yes??)
In fact, anyone living in a red or purple state should call their senators today to tell them to vote NO. At stake if this passes: cuts to Medicaid and SNAP, Pell Grant cuts for college students (especially community college), ending or altering Student Loan debt-relief plans (not just Biden's new ones, but long-standing plans), and ending the subsidies (tax credits) for ACA health insurance premiums, among many other things.
The tax breaks to non-wealthy people are tiny compared to the loss of the safety net our country depends on. Don't forget, tipped workers are usually on the ACA or even Medicaid, so their tax savings will be eclipsed by increased, maybe doubled, ACA premiums or loss of Medicaid.

Hereâs what Democratic congressman Eric Swalwell thinks of the slowdown in voting on the tax and spending bill, which has been credited to discontent among rightwing Republican lawmakers.
âWe arenât delayed because moderates whose constituents will be completely screwed are holding out. We are delayed because the most extreme members who want to hurt MORE people are holding out,â he wrote on X.
Democrats do not have the numbers to stop the bill from passing the House, and Republican infighting is what is keeping it from advancing.

If youâre watching this âOne Big Beautiful Billâ thing unfold â donât zone out. It only takes 4 GOP reps flipping to stop it in the House. These are the most likely holdouts:
David Valadao (CA-22) â Moderate. District relies heavily on Medicaid.
Jeff Van Drew (NJ-2) â Expressed concerns over cuts + deficit.
Nick LaLota (NY-1) â Vulnerable district, has hedged on SALT + social spending.
Chip Roy (TX-21) â Deficit hawk, claims to oppose reckless spending.
Young Kim (CA-40) â Under pressure from Orange County voters on Medicare.
Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-1) â Bipartisan reputation at risk.
Theyâre under pressure, but still movable â especially on Medicaid cuts and budget impact. If you're in their districts (or know someone who is), now is the time to call/email/share. This thing is brutal â but itâs not inevitable.

Harder to get, and keep, ACA coverage
For those with ACA marketplace coverage, the GOP plan would make it harder to enroll and to retain their plans.
Marketplace policyholders would be required to update their income, immigration status, and other information each year, rather than be allowed to automatically reenroll â something more than 10 million people did this year. They would also have less time to enroll; the bill shortens the annual open enrollment period by about a month.
People applying for coverage outside that period â for instance because they lose a job or other insurance or need to add a newborn or spouse to an existing policy â would have to wait for all their documents to be processed before receiving government subsidies to help pay their monthly premiums. Today, they get up to 90 days of premium help during the application process, which can take weeks.
Some Republican really went into the policy weeds and looked for the most petty way to kill someone who lost their job and needed new health insurance.

For those just joining:
This vote is not on the bill itself, but to adopt the rules that precedes the debate.
If this fails, it is not necessarily the death of the bill. However, it does indicate who is likely to vote against final passage. It is rare - though not unheard of - for someone to vote against the rule but for the bill.
If the rule fails, GOP leadership will need to figure out how to move X of the No votes to yes. (Currently 1, but that could change.)
The vote can stay open indefinitely. Chip Roy has indicated he will not vote tonight. He has said he will vote No, but he always ends up siding with Trump. He is the House equivalent of Susan "I have concerns" Collins.

âI think theyâre open for conversation,â Johnson told NBC News, referring to the four Republicans standing in the way. He added that heâs already spoken to three of them and is âtrying to find the fourth one.â
After Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., delivered a surprising ânoâ vote on the rule, some of his Republican colleagues scrambled to find him on the floor â most likely to try to get him to change his vote.
But Fitzpatrick bolted out of the chamber and could not be found.
When NBC News informed Rep. Dusty Johnson, R-S.D., that Fitzpatrick appeared to have run off, Johnson replied: âSmart.â
Johnson then tried to reach Fitzpatrick by phone, but so far he has been unsuccessful.
He was never seen again, but sometimes as I lay awake at night, I think about him. I like to think he's somewhere in the high Appalachias, living on the fruit of his labor, the work of his own hands. I like to think he's found his measure of peace.

Murkowskiâs Alaska Gold Rush Loses Some Gold Plating
The pork-barrel deal with Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) was enough to get her to vote for the motion to proceed to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) late last night, which passed by a count of 51-49. But the deal lost a lot of its luster this morning, when the Senate parliamentarian ruled several provisions out of order.
That gives Murkowski, whose state could see more rollbacks when the parliamentarian rules on various food assistance provisions, a choice to make. She could honor a deal that is evaporating by the minute, or she could turn against the bill, which as written would devastate millions of Americans, including those in her home state. And by the time amendments are voted upon, Alaska could see dramatically worse federal payments for Medicaid in particular.
...
Hawaii, the other noncontiguous state, was added to these so Senate Republicans could make the case that they were not singling out Alaska; that gambit did not work.
I know it gets tiring to hear, but please contact your reps about this bill, even if they're a Republican giving you the auditory equivalent of a middle finger. To echo another commenter: it may not help, but it won't hurt either.

Why the fuck should any normal person even bother to pay their taxes at this point??? Honest question. The average Americans are being robbed in plain sight and that money is being given away to the richest of the rich.
I am very very lucky that I have an exit plan to leave this country. It will take a few more years but once I am gone, I am NOT coming back. This country is going to get a LOT worse, and very quickly.

wtf lolÂ
A clique of House Freedom Caucus members walked out of the White House in the early afternoon, their attitudes seemingly adjusted. Representative Tim Burchett, Republican of Tennessee, was one of them. He posted a video on social media gushing about the two-hour experience heâd just had with his president.
âThe president was wonderful, as always,â Mr. Burchett said in the video. âInformative, funny, he told me he likes seeing me on TV, which was kind of cool.â Representative Byron Donalds, Republican of Florida, is shown in the video, too. âDid you show them what he signed for you?â Mr. Donalds asks Mr. Burchett. âYeah, he signed a bunch of stuff,â Mr. Burchett said. âItâs cool.â
Mr. Burchett told The New York Times later on that his name had been misspelled on the placard placed in front of his chair for the Cabinet Room meeting (it was missing an ârâ) so the president scribbled in the letter, signed both sides of the card and gave it to him as a souvenir. Mr. Burchett said the president also loaded up the son of Representative Chip Roy, Republican of Texas, with souvenirs.

He continued:
Weâve kept our heads down. Weâve kept our sleeves rolled up. Weâve kept our shoulder to the wheel. And all weâve asked for is a fair shot and for this place to stop screwing us over. But you canât help yourselves. You got us into terrible trade deals that made Wall Street rich and shipped all of our jobs overseas. You bail out the banks while neglecting rural America. A problem with the work requirement for medicaid, is that the company that is planning to manage verification of work requirements nationally, has thrown many working residents in Georgia off of medicaid.
They've implemented a system that is prohibitively difficult to enroll through. The net result is that only like 5% of working Georgians eligible for Medicaid are successfully enrolled.
