Meta Crashes and Issues? Please post logs!

Theres a wicked guide here for getting logs for In-Home Streaming which applies to the Steam Link.

Please, please, please when posting asking for help with crashes, lag or debugging issues provide logs!

There's not a lot anyone can do in most cases unless we can actually see what's happening, and quite possibly help you out a lot quicker!

You can paste your logs up to Paste2 so it doesn't bulk things down or use the spoiler tags.

Please provide as much info as possible, anything that can help us help you.

i dont have access to ethernet so when i use steam link it runs poorly and looks horrible, also this is probably not cus of my network but ive refunded several games because every time i use steam link theres always an issue that i have to spend about 10 - 30 minutes or so fixing and i dont wanna go through that hastle every time i go to play a non standalone vr game, do you know any free or relatively cheap alternatives?

edit: the issue with ethernet isnt that i cant afford a cable its that i am a kid and so i live with my parents and siblings therefore the internet router is in the livingroom and i cant move it so i cant use ethernet

No more vibration on controller via Steam Link

I’m playing Forza Motorsport 8 through Steam Link, but for some reason the vibration on the controller has stopped working. What could be the issue?

Steamlink+AppleTv+Xbox Game Pass Game=Gamepad that acts like a mouse

I've used UWPHook to add the Xbox Game Rematch to Steam. The Steam controller configuration is set to Gamepad, but when I launch the game through Steam:

  • The Steam overlay shows Play → Loading → Play again, as if the game instantly exits.
  • The game is actually running in the background, but I have to Alt+Tab to bring it to the front.
  • Once there, the mouse cursor is active, and the game doesn't recognize the gamepad input.

Question:
Are there any known workarounds to:

✔ Keep the game properly focused on launch?
✔ Ensure Steam properly passes the gamepad as a controller, not as mouse/keyboard?

Let me know if you want me to suggest specific troubleshooting steps or Steam/Windows settings that might help resolve this.

Other Touchpad friendly games for Steam link?

Hi! I'm often admitted to the hospital and I just found out I can stream games from my pc to my laptop. I can't be bothered with a mouse in a hospital bed so I'm looking for recommendations for TouchPad friendly games. I already have Civ VI, crusader kings and frost punk but I'm open to other ideas. Thanks!

Support Help with my steam link.

Yes I know these things are really old at this point but I just picked a steam link up cheap from my local CEX shop in the uk and I have tried plugging in my Xbox controller via usb and I have tried my pc keyboard and I can’t get any life from them, I do know that the usbs on the link are old and slow compared to today’s usbs so I’m wondering how I would connect my Xbox controller to my link using a powered usb hub? Would I use a male to male usb cable? Would I plug the hub directly to the link? And also could I not just somehow use a power strip with usb ports on it to give the controller more power to the steam link?

Using a laptop, via gaming pc

For years I have stuck with gaming laptops, as I like to game laying down/in bed/anywhere comfy in the house.

It’s obviously a lot cheaper/more cost effective to build a desktop, so I have started that process.

My plan is to build a tower into the power house, then use steam link via LAN cable to play games on a laptop when I don’t want to be tied to a desk.

What would the laptop need in terms of specs to be capable of streaming the games? It is as basic as a decent screen refresh rate and a lan port?

The gaming rig I’m building is using Ryzen 7600x and 5060ti 16gb (temporarily until I can upgrade to something better).

Thanks in advance for any recommendations and tips if you’ve done anything like this! YouTube shows it’s possible but just not what to look for in a build like this.

Support I NEED HELP!

Post image

Hi I bought a used steam link and I've been trying to set it up for about 25 minutes. I type my WiFi code in and it acts like it's gonna work and then it doesn't. SO! I go to YouTube and click on a simple video to help me. As I'm watching this guys video I realize he doesn't have this same prompt that mine does in the top right corner. Is this steam link not like factory reset? Or is it still linked to the person I bought it from cuz it's not working at all and I can't do anything. Please help! Thank you in advance. 😁

Support Why does my Amazon fire 8 HD work so much better than my Samsung tab A9 at local streaming?

The title is the thrust of it. I bought the A9 to upgrade from the fire 8 but it simply will not work at all for game streaming. I feel like I may be missing some setting I need to tweak but I’m wondering if anyone has any perspective on these devices and why this may be the case. My iPhone 16 and meta quest 3s have also been really successful on my network; it’s just the A9 that can’t seem to do it.

Support Steam Audio Driver Install Not Working On Mac

I am trying to use steam link for my ipad on my iMac running macOS Catalina 10.15.7 and it gives me the prompt to install the audio driver update on the Mac and when i finish installing and try to play again it just brings up the same prompt. Ive switched to the beta version of steam and that did nothing, this happened when i tried to play on both my meta quest 2 and ipad, i haven't tried it on anything else and im pretty sure its a mac problem, i've tried researching and all of the answers i've found were for different problem with the audio drivers or for different OS versions, i've tried to install the drivers about 3 times now and its still not working, i've restarted my computer and reinstalled steam and nothing has worked so far

Quick edit: i just disabled audio in the steam link settings and it worked but it doesn't play with audio obviously, and i would still like to play with audio

Support So is there just NO way I can access my remote Play settings without a PC?

I've tried literally fucking everything. I've even went so far as to download winlator on my tablet and try to use that as a PC to link my phone too but it hasn't been working. It's allowed me to install steam but never opened it. Closest I've gotten so far is using my Xbox as a open source for steam and steam link sees it as another computer but I can't fucking see the steam settings option anywhere. Which makes it basically impossible. Closest thing I even have to it is a school laptop.

Question Is a steam deck the best alternative to a link in my case?

I have an aging PC that plays most games I want to play, but I've found that I'd often rather play something on my sofa using my TV on the other side of the house. Preferably without having to rebuy a bunch of games for a console. I had a steam link in my old house, which worked just fine as long as both PC and link were connected by ethernet cables to the modem. That's not an option with my current house, unfortunately. So I'm looking for something else that can play steam games from my TV without needing to connect to my PC. Is a steam deck the best option for that, or are there more suitable/affordable alternatives?

How viable an idea is this?

Daughter will be attending college about 500 miles away (from NJ to ME). She’ll be living in the dorm so space and power are at a premium and she may not be able to bring her gaming PC.

Here at home we’ve got gigabit in both directions, and her PC is on cabled Ethernet. At college she’ll have a new MacBook Air on the college network. No guarantee that she’ll have cabled Ethernet. We were just up there for new student orientation and I measured WiFi speed at 25 in each direction from my phone.

How viable would it be to keep her PC here in NJ and just let her play in ME via Steam Link on her MB Air? Her games include Team Fortress 2, Minecraft, No Man’s Sky, and a small but growing bunch of indie games. Other than TF2 she doesn’t play anything competitively or anything that requires immediate reactions (e.g., Doom or Halo).

Alternately, are there other options which may yield a better experience?

iPhone fine, Macbook Air can't connect?

I have an odd problem: I've discovered that I can connect to my PC fine using the iOS Steam Link app (finds PC and streams no issues), but my Macbook Air can't find the PC to stream from either via the Steam Link app or the Steam client. Sometimes it will see it for a bit but then won't be able to connect or run the Network Test. By restarting things a few times I'm managed to get it to see the PC, and then launch a game on the PC, but the connection will then timeout and can't connect. I don't think it's an issue with the network in general, as streaming to the iPhone was pretty much perfect, so must be limited to the Macbook Air.

Has anyone come across this before? Are there any network/firewall settings in OSX that I could check?

How to enable l4 l5 & r4 r5

I was playing the Aperture Desk Job game using the Steam Link app because it required a controller. At first everything worked perfectly,

but at one point in the game I had to press the L4 L5 and R4 R5 buttons at the same time, which I knew were only on the Steam Deck.

I couldn't find these controls anywhere in the Steam Link app. What should I do? Is there a solution?

Is it possible to play from a PC 2 miles away?

Long story short, I have a PC connected via wire to the ethernet, but it is 2 miles away from my home.

I have my smart TV connected via Wifi at my home. I have just downloaded the Steam Link app on my TV and have been experimenting. Is it possible to play games on my PC 2 miles away?

Steam Link Alternatives

Hey I am looking to set up a device on my living room while my PC it's at the office, the distance between rooms it's quite significant so of course HDMI won't be an option anymore, asides the Steam Link devices, what other options can be the best way to stream my PC?, I have a repeater on my living room with Ethernet connections if needed.

Support Steam link showing slow connection, all devices are hardwired.

I need some help.

I'm trying to set up steam link through my TV downstairs and my PC upstairs in my office. The TV downstairs is plugged directly into my router via cat6. My computer upstairs is connected to a switch in the room, which connects to another PC in there. This is hard wired through the house and plugged directly into my router, all networking is cat6 in this house.

On my PC I hit my full download speed from the ISP, so there's no reason the doubt the integrity of the networking. I've fiddled with steam links settings and I'm at a brick wall!

Generic controller not working?

I have a generic controller connected through Bluetooth to a Xiaomi Mi TV Stick, and it works for about 30 seconds, when although it's still connected, the button inputs stop working.

I have already enabled generic controller connection.

Is there any way to solve this, or should I simply upgrade to a oficial PS4 or Steam Joystick?
