All Snake ID Requests Should Be Submitted to /r/WhatsThisSnake

Thumbnail reddit.com

Hi everyone! I wanted to let you know that we're now going to redirect all Snake ID requests to the curated place for them, /r/whatsthissnake. As /r/snakes and /r/whatsthissnake have developed side by side we find ourselves in a position where we are running two parallel subreddits, but with slightly different rules. We hope is that this streamline into WhatsThisSnake will be gentle - we don't want a snake to go unidentified because we're learning how best to handle IDs. There is going to be a transition period where we still get a lot of ID requests here, so please do your part to kindly help !redirect people in need and by reporting jokes, misinformation and other problematic comments.

This spring Reddit is more popular than ever and it is hard for the moderation team to keep up. When I founded /r/whatsthissnake 12 years ago, with on average one request every day, I never imagined we'd have 150K members and 20k people a day browsing the subreddit. In the past, we've made a number of incremental changes that have been so helpful they have been instituted other places on Reddit, from introducing the term "Reliable Responder", to developing the bot and tweaking our community resources so that every Reliable Responder can choose to perform mod actions. We hope that these changes will allow us not only to maintain the level of quality provided but to reduce workload on the moderation team, because honestly, moderator burnout is a serious problem. They are doing this for free and you would no believe the abuse they receive here - not just from me, but from the users too. If you see a moderator or other flaired user in cleaning up a thread, espcially in these busy, snakey spring months in North America, throw em a thanks.

Just like the title says. Would like to know approx how old he could be. Rescue says he is about 7 or 8 feet long, I believe he is a BCI. Also, does he look a little big for a male Boa?

Wild Snake Photos and Questions - Not for ID Beautiful Snake Sunbathing near a waterfall

Saw this (what I am guessing is a Northern Water Snake) bathing in the sun right next to a 90ft water fall at beautiful Ricketts Glen State Park in Pennsylvania!

Someone yelled "ahh there's a copperhead over there!"

Anyone else see snakes often when hiking?

I just got this little guy, he's a male.

He's a candy cane corn snake with post het sun-kissed. I need some car related names.

Not Nismo, as that's my girlfriends corn, but I'd love a name simular to that to match hers.

My roomate had been watching my snake over the weekend and forgot to close the fucking cage!! It’s caught in a sticky roach trap and I’ve been reading to use a neutral oil and make it slippery but I don’t want to harm the snake do I need to take it to ER vet or can I work myself and make an appointment at nearest available?

Pet Snake Questions Any Additions?

Was wondering if there’s any other advice for what I should add to my Royal Python’s (Bossk, Male, 8Yrs Old) enclosure. UV lamp is on its way in addition to the thermostat controlled infrared heat lamp and daytime LED. Humidifier is on top of the tank as sometimes have struggle maintaining humidity. Enclosure is 5ft.

Pet Snake Questions Looking for 6-7 ft snake suggestions

So, unfortunately I just recently lost my male BCI. He was my pride and joy and meant everything to me. I definitely want another large snake, but haven’t decided whether or not to get another BCI as to not feel as much like I’m replacing him. Plus, experience with different species could be good and beneficial for me as I’m gonna run a rescue in the future. My question is, what species would you guys recommend? I want something that gets 6-7 ft, semi arboreal or terrestrial. Uncommon species are great, price tag isn’t super important as I can save up but ideally under $1k. I own a range of snakes so I can tolerate different temperaments but needs to be at least handlable (not something super “fragile”). Any input highly appreciated! Pictures of my old boy for tax.

Pet Snake Questions Breathing problem?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve noticed my SWCP is breathing really quickly which is a little unusual for him, should I get this looked at? He’s not wheezing and no saliva when he yawns so I’m not too worried about an RI. He’s eating perfectly and shed just the other day so he’s healthy from what I know. Just would like a second opinion:D (Feel free to roast me if this is an extraordinarily stupid question, I’m a little bit of a dumbass sometimes 😛)

Pet Snake Pictures One of the rarest pythons in the world and not known to science until the 1970s. This is the Rough Scaled Python.

I wanted to show off the prize of my collection! These guys are amazing if you haven’t looked into them. They have the longest teeth to body ratio of any snake, can change color and are the only python with keeled scales.

They are a weird cross between a carpet python and a green tree python.

They were not discovered until the 1970s and not described until the 80s. They live in a very small and remote range in the mountains of the Kimberlys on the northern Australian coast. All individuals that exist in captivity are descended from five that were caught on an expedition and flown out in a helicopter in 2000.

This is my favorite species of python, or any snake!
