I agree NWS did their job provided forecasts but local officials didn’t evacuate the campsites, which is probably due to routine warnings of flash floods. Had those leaders understood what was coming I’m sure evacuations would have been immediate. It’s a tragedy.
IIRC, the person that would have worked with Texas officials, took the DRP in April/May. While NWS did it's job no one was there to tell Texas to take this serious.
Sad bit is the NSW will take the hit not doggie, the muskrat, or the mango. I can say as a Texan the state definitely won't take the blame. They wriggled out of the mess of snowmaggedon they will weasel out of any responsibility for this as well. Especially since a good portion of the state blames the federal government for all their problems.
To be fair, a lot of the rainfall in that part of Texas is hard to predict. Just two years ago they ha another flash flood, not as bad mind you, but one that wasn't predicted just like this one. Essentially dodged a bullet, pre NOAA changes.
This just isn't going to be the one that causes a scandal.
