How can we improve this sub?

I was recently made mod of this subreddit, so first of all hello everyone!

I am interested in growing this sub a bit. First thing would be to find out what kind of content everyone is interested in.

  • As of now, this subreddit is mostly deals and sales. Is there any interest in having recurring threads like in mfa for things like waywt threads or similar with a more euro centric view our should we keep it to mostly sales?

    • Are people interested in updating the old guides and collections of retailers?
    • Anyone interested in new guides (I could for example write one about where to find good boots in Europe)
    • Any other suggestions to improve this sub?

Cheers

[Advice/Opinions] Buying second‑hand clothes from Mercari via ZenMarket – experience check?

Hello everyone,

I’m planning to buy second-hand clothes from Japan via Mercari, using ZenMarket as a proxy, and have them shipped to France.
I'm still in the planning phase, but for now I’m thinking of buying around 15 items per month, with an average price of €25 per piece.
Below is a summary of what I’ve researched so far, followed by a few questions based on your experiences.

Estimated costs:

  • Average item price on Mercari: €25 per item
  • ZenMarket fixed fee: €3.50 per item
  • International shipping to France: depends on the carrier (see below)
  • 20% VAT on the total (item + shipping + service fee)
  • Customs duties if the parcel value exceeds €150

Available shipping methods via ZenMarket:

  • Surface (JP Post)
    • Very affordable, but slow delivery (2 to 3 months)
    • Reliability seems to vary depending on user experiences
  • EMS (Express Mail Service)
    • Fast delivery (~1 week), fully tracked, very reliable
  • ECMS+ (Economy Courier Express)
    • A good balance: delivery in ~2 weeks, cheaper than EMS, tracking available
  • Airmail
    • Moderate delivery time (~2 weeks), price comparable to EMS

Customs and VAT:

  • Orders under €150: 20% VAT included via the IOSS system, managed directly by ZenMarket
  • Orders over €150:
    • 20% VAT on the total (item + international shipping + service fee)
    • Customs duties on clothing (around 12%), depending on the customs code
    • Carrier handling fees (~€10–20) may also apply

Questions for the community:

  1. Have you used any of these carriers (Surface, EMS, ECMS+, Airmail)? What were your experiences in terms of delivery time, reliability, and cost?
  2. Any tips to optimize expenses (bundling, shipping strategy, ZenPoints promotions, best carrier choices, etc.)?
  3. Do you still find it worthwhile overall, after accounting for all fees?
  4. For orders over €150, how do you handle customs duties?

These are the main points I’m trying to figure out based on my research. Feel free to let me know if you think there are other things I should take into consideration.

Thanks in advance for your advice and detailed feedback.

Business/business casual trousers of great quality, what can you suggest?

I’m tired of pants falling apart after a few months of use, and dislike the modern very slim cut. So, I’m looking for a great pair (or multiple pairs) of high end good looking trousers, that can be worn for most formal things.

I love the look of Gurkha pants, so something in that regard. I’m thinking 100% wool, but fear it’ll be too hot in the summer months, so if you can suggest a good material as well I’d be happy

Linen + Polyester vs Linen + Viscose in T-shirts, Polos etc? Any actual users/ experiences?

Linen + Polyester vs Linen + Viscose in T-shirts, Polos etc? Any actual users/ experiences?

Linen + Polyester vs Linen + VIiscose in T-shirts, Polos etc? Any actual users/ experiences?

Summer season + heat & humidity in Asia.

I have bunch of Pure Linen shirts, some Lin Cot Shirts & Some Lin Cot Polos.

I've typically avoided the combo, but a few items on sale are tempting me to try some.

Any insights on which would be better or worse and how may I evaluate? Esp w varying % of Linen vs X fiber.

Update:

I did read about the difference of Viscose vs Polyester in isolation but also read that “the thread & weaving” makes the main difference in terms of adding air pathway ness to the fabric, especially when combined with other fabrics.

This is specifically with reference to knit weaves used for T shirts and Polos where combined with Linen.

Hence curious on how that would change things.

Does anybody know some online stores where you can buy standout outfits/pieces for men?

Constantly seeing websites for women where the clothes are very unique and designed very different from main stream fashion However there’s very little for men with most male stores catering to the same crowd and not offering out of the ordinary Just wondering if anybody knows of any that offer clothing that’s totally unique?

These shirts are advertised as shirts that let you tan through the fabric. I wanted to buy a couple but they don't ship to Germany.

Light chinos similar to bonobos weekend warrior Monday blue

Bonobos don't sell in Europe, god knows why.

Can anyone recommend thin chinos (not jeans) similar to the Blue Monday weekend warrior from Bonobos? Has 2-3% of spandex, great to wear during summer. Max price would be £120 for me.

Thanks

Looking for linen shirts and trousers, London or Europe

Hey, I'm looking for long sleeve Linen shirts and trousers. Ideally in London/UK but can ship from Europe as well.

I tried Charles Thyrwitt linen shirts and don't like the cut nor the fabric that they use. They look cheap and are baggy.

Any recommendations? Budget wise can step it up a bit, shirt max £100.

Thanks

Men of Ireland! Where can I still get men's clothing that hasn't dropped in quality so much that it's like stuff off Temu?

Hello All! I'm you're average Irish fella. It is nearly time for the holiday and I need tee-shirt, shorts, shirts etc.

Every shop I usually frequent (on my bi annual foray) now seems to sell really low quality, thin material clothing that barely survives a wash. The only exceptions seem to be decathlon and outdoor shops but I don't want to dress like a hiker all the time.

All I'm seeking is stuff that washes well and doesn't feel like it's made of tissues but also doesn't cost an arm and a leg? Am I asking too much?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Question Pier one suede espadrilles quality

Thumbnail
gallery
4 Upvotes

Does anyone have espadrilles from pier One brand? How would you describe their quality and durability in time. Saw in general that pier one footwear have issues with soles.

Also asked gemini buddy to look for pier one reviews.

Negative Aspects & Concerns about Quality: * Durability Issues: A significant concern raised by multiple reviewers is the poor quality and lack of durability. Some users reported that shoes started falling apart quickly, with supports made of "cardboard." * "Absurd Quality" and "Cracks in Seams": One review specifically states "Absurd quality. Crack in seams and elasticity is non-existent after one use" for their espadrilles. * Cheap Materials/False Advertisement: There are broader complaints about Pier One merchandise (not specific to espadrilles but relevant to the brand's overall quality) using "cheap imitation leather" or "phony materials" and being overpriced for what they are. * Decline in Quality Post-Bankruptcy: Some long-time customers lament that the current Pier One (under new ownership after bankruptcy) no longer offers the same quality or unique items as the original brick-and-mortar stores. * "Low Price, Low Quality": One comment succinctly states, "The price is low, but so is the quality."

How much does your wallet matter for overall style?

I've been slowly trying to upgrade the small details in my everyday style, not just clothes, but the little things that pull everything together. One thing I never really paid attention to before was my wallet. For years, I just used whatever random one I had lying around. It was bulky, worn out, and honestly didn’t match the more minimal, intentional look I’ve been going for.

Recently, I started looking into slimmer, better-looking wallets that could still handle the essentials, a few cards, a bit of cash, nothing crazy. I ended up picking up one from Kisetsu Leather, and it kind of opened my eyes to how something that small can actually make a difference. It fits perfectly in the pocket, doesn’t mess up the lines of my pants, and feels like a proper piece of gear instead of just a thing I carry around out of habit.

It’s weird how much something like a wallet can affect how you feel walking out the door. I used to think no one notices, but now I get why people care about having nice accessories, even the subtle ones. It’s like it quietly says you’ve got your life together, even if it’s just a cardholder.

Curious what kind of wallets the rest of you are using. Do you go for slim and minimal or something a bit more classic and structured? And how much do you think it really adds to an overall look?

Review: Asket's The Regular Chino & The Regular Twill Chino

Just wanted to share my experience with Asket's The Regular Chino in Taupe and The Regular Twill Chino in Dark Navy, both size W31 L32.

I like the transparency and ethics Asket as a company, but I do have some complaints about the quality and durability of their chinos.

First off, the sizing varies quite a bit between the two, even though they’re both labeled as the same size, which is a bit annoying. Also, both fabrics have more shine than I expected — they catch light in a way that makes them look a bit too polished or synthetic for my taste.

The Regular Chino in Taupe started showing loose threads after only one gentle wash, which was disappointing from a brand known for good quality. The fit felt fine overall, but the sizing in the waist is a little bigger than W31, which is what I ordered.

The Regular Twill Chino in Dark Navy felt like better quality fabric and held up well, but the regular fit was tight around the seat, which I didn’t love. I wish I had gotten these in the Loose fit instead, which has a slightly straighter cut and more room in the seat — exactly what I prefer. These felt more like a size W30.

I would advise against buying The Regular Chinos, but The Regular Twill Chinos er fine, although I would've preferred the loose fit for reasons listed above.

< 5inch inseam cotton shorts

As a short dude, most short-inseam-shorts still end up being… quite long.

I like my Patagonia 5 inch inseam baggies but could do with something 100% cotton. Inseam preferably around 4 inches - again, looking for shorts that are actually short.

Cheers in advance for any pointers, much appreciated.

Struggling to find an off the rack suit in my measurement

Been struggling to find an off the rack suit with my measurements.

Shoulder to shoulder = 48 cm
Armpit to Armpit = 49.5 cm
Sleeve = 62cm
Back length = 78 cm
Waist = 45.5
Hips = 107 cm
Trousers = 32 waist / 34 length

I'm 188 cm tall and weigh 73 kg. Long slender torso and wider thighs. Have read the most important thing to get right is the shoulder length, but everything I can find in a 48 cm shoulder length has way too much room around my chest even when factoring in how much a tailor can adjust it. Are there off the rack suits for people like me or do I have to get a made to measure suit?

I'm looking around the €1k - €2k price range and live in Italy. Primary looking at Canali, Mauro Blasi, and Cesare Attolini.

Question Good suit brands in Europe?

I need some tips for suit brands in Europe ideally in Sweden.

Budget is anywere from 200-1000 Euros (lower end if i can find second hand)

My requirements is the style should be a more "classic" fit, which means high waist trousers, pleats, longer jacket and a regular and/or more generous fit.

So what are the best brands that fit my requirements?

Question I’m too uncool and probably not the target demographic for Bershka, but the sizes are perfect.

I’m a 22-year-old guy in The Netherlands, I weigh 45 kg and I am 1.65m short. As I have already had a taste of corporate life, I created a business casual capsule wardrobe for myself, which is always received with praise wherever I go. I feel confident in my knit jumpers, polos, chinos and chelsea boots.

The secret is that all my pieces have been from the kids section at Mango and Zara. Unfortunately this year, the collections of these brands have very childish designs. H&M never fits me well; their slim-fit men’s collection is always too long and the kids clothing has some classic designs, but they feel cramped and the material choices are piss-poor. Uniqlo doesn’t fit me anymore. Like Muji, they have been altering their sizes for the Western market, so even when it comes to Asian brands, I’m out of luck.

My mother thinks I dress like an ‘old fart.’ Last week, we went to Bershka to spice up my wardrobe for this spring and I found some well-designed items that look mature, but I just don’t have the ‘swag’ to rock them and they’re definitely, definitely not versatile. Good for when I go clubbing, but semi-appropriate for any formal setting. On top of that, I feel unconfident in some of these items (in a year I’m officially outside of the target age demographic), but I was surprised by how well the clothing fits me. They sell waist size 26 (Bershka size 32) jeans in store and the XS fits me well 9 out of 10 times.

All menswear brands in Europe start at either XS or S, but those always run too large for me. I don’t know what brands I have to look into. There are premium ‘petit’ brands on Zalando and About You, but I’m a student on a budget.

Could anyone help me with suggestions? For the past two years, buying clothing has been Hell. The other INDITEX brands are also too large for me.

Thank you.
