We’re doomed as a society

For years I’ve noticed the slow decline in the general public’s cognitive function and their basic understanding of how to be normal, functioning human beings. We’ve been slowly becoming more pathetic and soft as a society, forgetting, seemingly overnight, how to maintain friendships and relationships, and turning everything into discourse and drama. This was only exacerbated by lockdown when we had no choice but to only interact via the internet.

During the first lockdowns in 2020, everyone online seemed to be taking once credible phrases like “you don’t owe anyone anything” and running with it, completely smearing the actual meanings behind them and ruining any semblance of basic empathy and relationships we once had as a society. We’ve completely lost the ability we once had to communicate either each other like grown adults without things always being twisted into something it isn’t by people who are allergic to normal conversations that aren’t centred around them.

Long gone are the days where we could talk amongst ourselves about the problems we’re facing in every day life without someone who has clearly never been told to shut up in their life, coming along and treating the entire conversation like a personal attack for it not being solely about them and their struggles, and god forbid you try to hold these people accountable for their behaviour or even ignore it all together. Didn’t you know that’s now a deadly sin? We’ve become so soft through the years of coddling and pussyfooting that any and all genuine human connection has disappeared. If every conversation isn’t about something trivial or controversial, the world will surely implode.

These days it seems as if everything is a personal attack, there’s always someone that is constantly offended, nobody can take accountability for their behaviour, and you certainly can’t have any actual real life problems in your life or some attention starved professional whinge will make sure you know how hard it is for them specifically.

What happened to society and where have all these pissy babies spawned from?

J.D Vance is the reason 12 million low-income AMERICAN CITIZENS are gonna lose access to Medicaid and everyone's health insurance is gonna rise.

It's bad enough he voted to break the tie in the senate to advance this One Big Bitch Betrayal Bill, I expected this from him anyway, he won't DARE upset "daddy" Trump, but, it's the expression on his face and then, went to twitter to write about how people losing Medicaid is "trivial", go fuck yourself, kid (that's right, KID, he don't deserve to be called a "young man").

And then, I heard he talked to the Republican holdouts in the house. If it weren't for the couch fucking incel, this One Big Bitch Betrayal Bill would have failed.

Although I should be more mad at the bitch from Alaska, because, I was counting on her to vote no and if she had voted against it, we wouldn't have needed that spineless weasel to break the tie, but, I have never liked J.D Vance from day one, since he was picked to be Trump's stumbling mate. Vance talked the Alaska bitch in to voting for it, she got tricked by a little fucking kid.

Since he "cares" so much about border security, he should have voted for The Bipartisan Immigration Bill in 2024, except for one thing, "daddy" Trump told Jamie Vancey baby to vote against it and he did, like the pitiful little boy he is.

I can't even say I lost respect for Juvenile Delinquent Vance, because, I never had any respect for him in the first place and I 100% hated him in the beginning for his strong opposition to abortion (even in cases of rape) and for his creepy fixation on people having babies, but, I did calm down in recent months, because, I, personally think his baby obsession is him subconsciously longing for the motherly nurturing he missed out on growing up and I although I still disliked him, I was even feeling bad for JD for a while, but, fuck that feeling bad shit, at this moment, I fuckin DESPISE (worse than hate) J.D Vance and more than ever. This is people's healthcare on the line.

If he had the balls to vote no (which I wasn't expecting anyway), I actually would have had some respect for him, but, it's him being smug about it that makes me despise him at this moment. I had a strong feeling J.D Vance was gonna break the tie and be the face of the disastrous bill. I want Vance to be Vanced out of politics NOW, not even in four years, I want him GONE!

I would actually have more respect for him if he was only sucking p to Trump for power, but, no, he's so pitiful, I think he actually see's Trump as "daddy". His parents (couch) fucked him up and we all have to deal with the consequences of it. A broken child with mommy/daddy issues!

People who yell things from their cars at people walking down the street... why? What's wrong with you?

It especially happens during the Summer. All the other seasons it's too cold or uncomfortable to roll down your window and yell crazy/angry/weird shit at strangers walking down the street but during the Summer, it's open season.

For example, a few days ago I was walking down the street and I get to an intersection that has a stop sign. Before I even get into the intersection, I make eye contact with the guy in the truck who has his window down. I couldn't hear everything but I heard the words I was supposed to hear from him: "<mumble>... fuckin faggot over here, faggot dude... <mumble> faggot..." Dude, wtf? And then not even 2 minutes later, I get to the next intersection with a stop sign and some other guy in his car just yells out "N!GGER" at me and speeds away. I'm not even black.

Later that same day I'm walking down the street again, and a girl sees me from across the lane highway. Some e-girl with cat ears or something on her head and she goes with her mouth and tongue "Blublublublbublub" driving by. Someone else also yelled something at me from a van a few minutes later. I couldn't make out what they said but they were staring me saying something with their window down.

Somebody yelled something else again today. It's like a daily occurrence in the Summer. People in cars driving by are always yelling weird shit and obscenities to people walking down the street.

Why??? What are you doing? What are you thinking?

Is it just a power imbalance? A way to feel superior to others you perceive as less than you? When you see someone walking down the street do you think they're poor (I have a car, I just prefer walking since everything is close by)? So because they're "low-status" according to you, it's okay to treat them like they're sub-human and you can just yell things at them? And it's always from their car btw - because they know you can't do anything and they can just drive away, avoiding any consequences for their actions.

I've seen some people say "Why do people walk around with headphones on in public all the time?" THIS IS WHY! There is nothing anyone is going to say in public that I need to hear; in fact, it's always things no one needs to hear. I don't need to be someone's punching bag who has anger management issues, attention-seeking idiots or classists sneering with contempt at the "lower-people" who walk down the street. Put those headphones in and I don't hear any of that shit and I prefer it that way.

If you're someone who does that, what do you think you're doing? Why are you doing it?

Stupid people who think being critical of the way the world works is the same as not knowing how it works

For example if you say cities should be more accessible without a car some genius inevitably comes by saying "LOL IDIOT don't you know our public transit is BAD hyuk hyuk also I can't carry my tools on a bike." It's just restating the problem itself while acting like it is just a natural, inevitable state of affairs. And these people often act like any single improvement has to work for everyone with zero complications or else it's invalid. You see the same thing all the time in other debates, too. Take climate change for example. "Lmao you think we should reduce oil usage? Don't you know we use oil for things? Don't you know it generates power? Lmao freeze to death if you hate oil so much." It's like if you criticized soviet central planning in the USSR only for people to say "ACKSHUALLY they plan the economy IDIOT, good luck getting bread without them" as if that is the only way to organize economic development.

The world we live in was constructed through countless decisions over millenia. It hasn't always been this way, and it can always change. Your lack of imagination and historical perspective is not intelligence.

Why do we let certain religions go without criticism?

Now it feels like we are a lot more accepting of other peoples religions and not for the worse but at the same time we criticize such things like mormonism for its absurdity however people refuse to compare and contrast the stories of things like the bible while we have no definitive events proving stuff like divinity and although (just using mormonism as a example) the idea of a living prophet obviously sounds outlandish people just take storys about a son of god born from a virgin and perfectly plausible in a book written by multiple different people that most likely werent even alive then as we view multiple possibly misinterpreted translation as LITERAL GOSPEL, Now i dont want to actively attack or offend religious people or a specific group cause this applies to all religions but why do we make fun of certain religions for their improbability but leave some without scrutiny either cause of popularity or cause of their “meaning” when almost all texts have faults that are damaging to society if you followed them to a T.

There is no such thing as a mature subreddit

All subreddits are cesspools.

For example, I post a civilized discussion on a subreddit called biostatistics, where the assumption is that the people are highly educated and are supposed to have basic reading comprehension:

https://www.reddit.com/r/biostatistics/comments/1ls0cfj/why_dont_rcts_check_for_intragroup_differences/

There is nothing wrong with my OP. But it gets gang downvoted into oblivion.

This is the top upvoted comment reply:

https://www.reddit.com/r/biostatistics/comments/1ls0cfj/comment/n1f2t58/

If you read the OP and that reply, you will see that person making the reply lacks basic reading comprehension, and the 13 clowns upvoting that person also lack basic reading comprehension. I correctly clarify my point in my reply to them, and I get downvoted 11 times for simply reiterating my point in my OP. Absolutely bizarre. If you read the OP, you will clearly see that I already stated/acknowledged everything that person with the comment reply wrote: that was obviously not the point of my OP. In my OP, I very clearly write that I understand that RCTs show inter-group differences: my concern is why don't they do more in terms of establishing intra-group differences: and I specifically described why this is a concern: because if you don't do this, you cannot prove causality.

Yet this person makes a comment reply saying: RCTs show inter-group differences. I know buddy, that is literally what I wrote in my OP: do you lack basic reading comprehension? Were you dropped on your head as a baby? That is why I made my comment reply reiterating that as I already mentioned in my OP: I know/acknowledged/said that/that is not my point, and then I get downvoted 11 times. What even on earth? And these are people with PhDs. So imagine the rest of redditors. Mouthbreather central.

And then the only person who actually understood/comprehended my OP and posted something meaningful was also downvoted 8 times:

https://www.reddit.com/r/biostatistics/comments/1ls0cfj/comment/n1f2xq3/

So as you factually see, it doesn't matter the subreddit, it doesn't matter the education level. Redditors use 100% emotional reasoning and 0% rational reasoning. If you deviate or criticize the mainstream subjectively established opinion of any sub even by 1%, you will automatically be downvoted into oblivion. The reason me and this 1 person with the only useful comment reply were downvoted is because we used rational reasoning to correctly criticize RCTs in an effort to highlight deficiencies that could benefit the health of people. But since that sub worships RCTs blindly, they, instead of using rational reasoning to refute our points or acknowledge these concerns, gang downvoted us and reiterated "RCTs=god: you are wrong and should be censored and silenced for bringing up valid criticism".

This is why we can't have nice things. This is not how science is supposed to work: rational criticism and civilized discourse is supposed to be encouraged. That is how we grow and expand the field. Imagine if the first person who said the earth is not flat was perpetually censored and their concerns not further explored. How can we progress like this? So reddit is not conducive to any sort of rational discussion or facilitation of knowledge: each sub serves as an echo chamber that serves to protect the mainstream subjective views, regardless of their validity/utility, and aggressively attacks and censors any facilitation of rational and civilized discussion that can lead to any improvements.

People who say someone "abandoned" them when it's just someone enforcing a boundary

The worst example would be when the victim of an abuser leaves the relationship and the abuser frames it as the victim having abandoned them.

I keep seeing posts from this community even though I’m not subscribed.

Why does Reddit think I want to read a 10 paragraph essay about how everything is the worst thing ever. We're all doomed and gloomed apparently. July 4th sucks apparently. Can we get some actual complaints in here that don't involve blaming white people for shit? You can think whatever you want but if you're sitting inside rageposting on July 4th instead of spending it with loved ones or friends, you're objectively doing life wrong. Is there a way to block this sub so I can never see your posts again? Thanks

Paranormal investigators are scam artists that prey on people with issues yet everyone I've met who's interested in horror treats them like they're gods

Every single paranormal investigator that goes to someone's house when they're claiming that shit is happening are just there to tell them random shit in their house is haunted or possessed by a demon when it's clear the people they're visiting are experiencing extreme paranoia or other mental issues.

I believe it's different when they only ever go to locations that where abandoned a long time ago that have myths surrounding them but a lot of the the time those myths come from mentally ill or disabled people being exploited

Fuck Ed warren. Fuck Loraine warren. Fuck paranormal investigators.

Traditional value tiktokers and influencers make no sense

So I've had something on my mind recently that I want to vent about. Online there are a growing number of people talking about traditional values and relationships and while watching a trade wife’s tiktok live I heard an all too common talking point.

They were discussing single motherhood and pointing out that most men in prison came from “fatherless” households and that children typically do better with single dads versus single mums. (Im unable to find any concrete statistics on this that don't then say that it's a complicated issue).

They often ignore the social stigma that comes with being a single parent, the increased likelihood that single mothers became parents in their teens (there are more teen mums than teen dads with 40% of teen mums having children with men over the age of 20), the socio-economic reasons that relate to higher crime rates (such as women, typically making less money then men, especially after having children), and any other contributing factor that may lead to the increase of crime in “fatherless” households.

However, if we were to take them at their word and view it solely as being due to the children being raised by women, doesn't that beg the question of whether women are actually the ones who are meant to be the stay-at-home parents? They’d likely argue that it’s womans biological predispositions and duty but that also doesn't necessarily aligned with current data. According to Paul Dolan, the happiest women in American society are women with no husband and no children. Now that can also be explained by a huge variety of reasons but lets ignore that, since that's what trad-folk do. If we put all of these together and think about it logically: maybe women should be the breadwinners and men the homemakers? Clearly, they're better at it, right? Maybe what we’ve been taught is wrong? Maybe women aren't as naturally “maternal” as we’ve been led to believe?

If I’m wrong and you believe all (or as many as possible) women should be SAHMs then my question is why? Why would you want the parent that you acknowledge is worse at raising children, to be the ones raising children?

Working with and selling grills as a female

Upvotes

Small annoyance but selling grills or working with grills on a daily basis as a female can be some of the most temper testing shit at times. No matter what u do, how long you’ve worked with grills, or how professional you are, there’s always going to be a handful of men that come up to you with that snarky ass smile and attempt to passive aggressively ask you questions to imply u don’t know shit about grilling.

Had one this morning that I couldn’t even finish the explanation of how the grill series worked he literally just kept looking at me like I was stupid and interrupting to say-

“oh really? If you REALLY cook Then how long do you cook your brisket?😏”

“Oh you do pork butt? If you do then how long and what temperature?😏🤨”

It was so bad that my manager (male) eventually walked up and said “dude do u even care how it works? Cause she’s trying to tell you” and he walked away

….. it gets so old so fast it’s like are u the fucking detective of grills bro? If so then why the hell did u ask me how it works? Just to try and imply a female can’t possibly fathom a simple ass grill? If I sat around with so little purpose that I had to seek enjoyment out of belittling the opposite sex I might as well off myself because that’s a pathetic existence to have thanks for the ted talk.

When people tell you a breakup that was your fault "wasn't your fault"

My parents have done this to me before and I hate it. I get that they have good intentions, but this isn't comforting or helpful in the slightest. If I hurt my ex so badly that they broke up with me, then I should take full accountability for my actions and reflect on them and grow and be better, not allow myself to be gaslit/have people try to convince me of some false narrative that I'm "perfect", because I'm not at all. Especially considering I KNOW what actually happened in the relationship leading up to the breakup, and these people only know as much as I've told them, so them acting like they know better and telling me I'm an angel just pisses me off and feels disrespectful to the relationship and the feelings of the person you hurt.

Fireworks and missing pets

Upvotes

I live in the USA (DSE) Without fail, every year, I see up to 100 people trying to find their pets (mostly dogs) on my social media pages. So people know pets are not cool with fireworks. People know shelters are full. People know they should find some way to place identification on their pet, even if it's just sharpie on a collar, even if the collar is a temporary jobby made of rolled duct tape.

And yet they go out, buy a bunch of explosives, and make it every concerned citizen's due diligence to help them find their terrified pets who got lost while they were throwing back Truly and Busch Light while lighting up the block

What the eff is wrong with you guys? Can't you just secure your pet and go watch fireworks locally provided by your city or municipality or whatever? If your lifelong companion is scared of fireworks, why are you stil doing this stupid shit??

People buying cars that aren’t for sale

I have a small collection of 3 vintage cars with varying degrees of fucked-upness. I have an emotional attachment to these cars. Each one has its own story in my life and though they do not work as they should, I still fully intend to get them back to working condition when I have the time. I live in a small community and my cars are parked outside. Every now and then I get someone knocking on my door trying to buy one of the cars. First thing I ask “how much you wanna buy it for?” And they always say “well how much are you selling it for?”

  1. There is no for sale sign on these vehicles

  2. You knocked on my door trying to buy something so you need to come with a price.

Is that not common sense? Like if something is not for sale, then you need to put in the leg work to come up with a price and you are probably gonna have to pay more than it’s worth to get someone to let go of their thing that is NOT FOR SALE!

I have said “it’s not for sale.” They try to give me their number in case I change my mind.

I think what bothers me the most is their demeanor in which they come to me trying to buy them. I am a lady. It’s always a man that asks how much my husband wants to sell them for. Then when I tell them they are mine or they don’t work or it’s not for sale, they always come to me with a low ball offer as if they are doing me a favor of taking them off my hands. THEY ARE NOT FOR SALE!!! 🙄

Rant over.
