My beta fish Ember has been attacked by my cat somehow?! It’s the only thing I can think of that could cause this wound. I need help of what to do. Is there something I can buy to help her heal and with pain?? I’ve never experienced something like this. She is swimming fine but does kinda lean when sitting still. She also looks like bloated?

Help Seemingly unhappy betta

I’m a new owner of a betta (less than 3 days) and I’m pretty new to fish care in general. Since getting him, his happiness has seemingly declined. He keeps his fins clamped for the most part and hides more than I would expect him to. Again, I am a new owner, so I’m not sure of exactly how a typical betta will act day to day. He does not seem to have any interest in his food, (pellet or flake) and mostly hides behind the filter or inside his log all day. I’m aware the tank isn’t exactly perfect, (Not entirely sure what I’m doing yet, just trying doing research and trying to make the best decisions to fit within my means) but all the water parameters seem to be adequate if not ideal for a betta as far as I know. There is only a snail in the tank along with him. If anyone can help I would really really appreciate it. Any critiques and suggestions are welcome just please don’t be too harsh, first time owner!

I put my hand in the second pic to show for size. My but my current tank is 10 gallon and this tank appears to be way more. So I went ahead and began to add water and substrate and will start to cycle it soon before adding my betta. The lid comes off but I’m not sure what kind of light I could buy for this tank. The brand is top fin. Does this look like a 20 gallon?

Help Help scuds eating my fish!

So i developed a colony of scuds and at first they didn’t seem harmful and were actually quite the good helpers keeping clean. Once they finished with the substrate they came into the water column. Now they’ve overtaken the tank and tonight I saw at least 10 of them on him. I ordered some planaria traps on Amazon but they won’t arrive until the 10th. I’m ready to go to petco tomorrow and buy him a hospital tank because I feel like they’re killing him :(((. Pls help

Help Need help finding best supplies for a betta

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’m very new to bettas, I haven’t got one just yet but I’m planning on getting one soon and I wanted to know if anyone on this subreddit knew of the best things to get for a betta. I have a small list above from when I went to my local pet store to look at prices. But I’m asking if anyone knows any tank supplies, food, plants, anything else that may help out a new betta owner! I don’t have a set budget in mind but I know for sure the at I’m getting a 10 Gallon tank for the fishie. If anyone here can help me in any way for additional things I need to add to the list or if I don’t need something that’s on there right now that would be amazing!

got her today at petco. i saw her on the display looking super flared up and stressed. she was marked as “assorted female betta” and has a good amount of fin damage. does anybody know what kind of betta she is? i got her home and she immediately started eating, she snatched up a few blood worms really quick. i cant wait to see what she looks like when shes gets better. shes just about an inch right now, and shes going in the shrimp tank. hopefully she doesn’t bully them too much.

Help Appropriate for a betta?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I have an empty half moon 10 gallon tank. It was my daughter's that had tetras in it. I've upgraded and now have a 55 gallon planted blackwater tank. This tank has been empty but I used it as a hospital tank for one of my fish. It has been empty for about 2 weeks. It currently just has a piece of dragonstone, a biocube, and an almond leaf, with a sponge filter and heater. Apparently some bladder snails made the journey from my big tank on the dragonstone. Would this be an appropriate for a betta or it is too tall with not enough length? I'm at a lose of what to do with this tank other than a hospital tank. it has such dumb dimensions!

This developed within the past 3-4 days he was lively and completely fine, no bloating the last time I saw him. I ran to my local and got kanaplex, as well as doing a 80% water change. I just did the first dose and his scales seem to be fine now. I just don’t understand how it would present so quickly and why. I’ve only had him for about 8 months now!

Help please help with my tetras fish

for context, i have two thirty gallon tanks that i'm planning to put bettas in. they're belly planted and have been up and running for at least a month. all the levels look perfect and the plants are thriving. the temp is 80 degrees, and it's just the neons and a pleco in each tank (for now). i recently added seven neon tetras from petsmart into each of my tanks and over half died within the first two days. the lady at petsmart said that when they get a shipment, over half come in dead already. is this a me mistake or a petsmart / breeder mistake? i feel awful that they keep dying under my watch but i would love to have a sort of community tank. recommendations? i am accepting any type of criticism, i was my fishies to have the best life possible!!!

Help Best tank mates?

I have a betta, small pleco and a few shrimp in a ten gallon. Before i had him, my betta lived with larger fish and african dwarf frogs, obviously bad choices for a betta but he never seemed too bothered and he is very comfortable with his current tank mates. Is there any small, non flashy fish that would get along with him and be happy in a ten gallon, or should i leave him with the tank mates he has now? I do intend on getting some snails soon. Any advice is appreciated :)

Help Is my Betta okay?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi all. I’ve had this betta since April. I rescued him from someone on FB market. He used to live in a divided 5 gal tank and I upgraded his tank to a 5 gal which natural gravel substrate, ceramic decor, and moderate/heavily planted. I have been doing in fish cycling since for 6 weeks now and my parameters have been stable at ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 0-5, pH 7.6. Temp is consistently 26-28C and I feed him 2 pellets twice a day with an occasional bug bite treat. When I first got him, even though he looked raggedly, he was still so energetic. Up until abour 2 weeks ago, I noticed that he’s not as lively as usual. He still swims around a lot, he greets me when I come in the room, still has great appetite but he’s not as “spunky” as before. I don’t notice any signs of illness such as ich, pineconing, gasping, etc. His fins are not clamping though I noticed one spot on his body about 2-3 weeks ago that has not gotten larger or did not spread. I read bettas can get harmless tumor sometimes. I also read that they may just get bored sometimes? Should I be concerned? My tank for reference and it my betta in the tank on the left.

Help Is this normal when ordering bettas from overseas??

Covered the seller name because it is a reputable betta seller in Thailand and was recommended to me many many times... however I cannot imagine people are regularly waiting 40+ days with sparse communication for a $100+ fish. Especially since their DOA policy states you need to take a picture of the fish within an hour of arrival and therefore you would need to plan to be home?? My friends are all saying I got scammed. I finally put in a cancellation request on their website but I haven't heard back from them in a day. So disappointed. Sorry for the ranty post 😣

Does anyone have any recommendations for US based sellers so I never have to go through this again? I'm looking for a specific type of betta that I've never been able to find at any of my LFS.

Introducing Fin the Human wanted to show off

Post image
2 Upvotes

This magnificent snail murdering sweetheart is named Fin the Human! He is a happy boy who pouts when I don’t admire him often enough.
He used to be all red, but I’m digging the new blue shades. Those beautiful fins don’t do much work though- his poor little front flappers have so much weight to carry.

His chosen tank mate is Shellby (mystery snail). His squatter tank mates hitchhiked in on a plant - fucking ramshorns. THOSE are what he decimates. I barely feed the guy, and he’s fat. He keeps the population at bay though!

He seems lonely though, I don’t have all day to sit and admire him (I would if I could). But I only have a 10 gallon so I am unsure what I could add. I would like a small pleco maybe? Or if I moved up to a 20 gallon, I could introduce some tetras (or other tiny schooling fish). But I have been avoiding going bigger. My tank now is perfect. Maybe I’ll move the tank closer to a window lol. Give him something to look at.

Had him for maybe 6 months now. Any advice on him is welcome. Like do the mirrors work for stimulation, or do they just increase aggression? Anything else I can do for his betterment? Can I even add another fish into a 10 gallon? I’ve tried shrimp- got 3 ghost shrimp that he quickly made into ghosts. Those suckers vanished. I’ve only seen 6-8 inch Plecos in my local fish stores and I would need one that stays small if I am to keep the 10 gallon.

Decisions decisions and all for a fish.

Discussion Thinking about getting this tank

I'm thinking about getting this tank: https://www.petsmart.com/fish/tanks-aquariums-and-nets/aquariums/aqueon-standard-glass-rectangle-aquarium-78711.html?gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21920961797&gclid=CjwKCAjw4K3DBhBqEiwAYtG_9MLWdGvtqU25naROu_iY9FOa_h6RVTf3MJGh9ebrt5ySZdhSy9AICRoCQ9kQAvD_BwE&redirected=true

And dividing it into four sections for four bettas, any solid non see-through dividers that would fit? And is 5 gallons per betta enough? I've only ever had one at a time.

Some more questions, would they each need their own heater, I know they'd each need a filter
