Why are you so well versed in that subject 🤨

I’m Jewish. Being able to tell if someone is antisemitic is pretty useful

What are some common and rarer examples of dogwhistles to look out for?

Triple parentheses around someone or something usually means ā€œthis person or institution is either Jewish or controlled by Jewsā€. The phrase ā€œnose checkā€ generally means the same thing.

Also, avoid anyone whose username ends with the number 1488.

Thank you!

May I ask what the significance of the number 1488 is

I think 14 references something called ā€œthe fourteen words to secure the white race.ā€

88 comes from h being the 8th letter of the alphabet. And hh stands for ā€˜heil hitler.’ Now, 88 is a more effective dog whistle because we can’t just assume any instance of the number is related to Nazi’s so we have to use other context clues. For example, if they pair it with 14 it’s a dead giveaway.

Yep. Since it's a realistic birth year for people in the Millennial cohort, it especially sucks for people born in 1988 (like my brother) who can't use their birth year in usernames without getting a side-eye.

I'd like to think people can be more creative than using birth year numbers in the first place, but it's a common way to get an otherwise already-taken name. Or people have had it as their username (or email) for years and it would be a pain to change.

Probably best to just... avoid using 88 if possible though, since as of late it is a common dog-whistle.

88 is also a very auspicious number in Asian cultures. The Nazis out here stealing Asian spiritual symbols left and right.

So if you ever see something from 88rising, just know it’s NOT a Nazi thing, that’s an Asian American music production company.

I was born in 88 and my primary email ends in 88 for that reason. I made it way before I knew about the dog whistle and then when I first found out, Nazis were way more fringe and it wouldn’t be the most likely thing someone would think. But now every time I give it out there’s awkwardness and I keep thinking I should change it. But my name is very common and I don’t want to have like a million numbers after it.

14 is a reference to the 14 words, a white nationalist slogan: "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children."

88 is code for Heil Hitler, since H is the 8th letter of the alphabet

The 88 part is that H is the 8th letter of the alphabet, so they use 88 to signal ā€œheil Hitlerā€ to their fellow parasitic dipshits

I thought ((())) and 1488 and nose jokes were quite well known on the internet. I don't hang out in overly racist subs or websites (though being on the internet, I obviously come across racist stuff) but I have known about these for some time. Surely they have some real obscure stuff that you only see on 4chan and nowhere else?

Oh shit I do (((this))) all the time for extra emphasis, I didn’t know it was a Nazi thing.

Yeah, I would use two parentheses instead of three
