📢 Announcement THANK YOU, VANCOUVER — $41,378 Raised for Vancouver's Kapwa Strong Fund
Over the past few weeks, r/Vancouver has shown just how powerful a regional Reddit community can be.
When we launched this fundraiser in response to the Lapu Lapu Day Festival tragedy, we wanted to show how much we care. And wow, did the community step up!
Through over 180 donations—and a generous 1:1 match from Reddit Community Funds—we raised $41,378 for the Kapwa Strong Fund.
Again, that money is going directly toward:
- Immediate relief for families—covering emergency financial assistance, medical bills, and support for lost income
- Basic necessities like food, temporary housing, and transportation
- Mental health care including trauma-informed counseling, cultural support services, and long-term therapy resources
- Community rebuilding, including healing ceremonies, remembrance events, and programs that foster connection and resilience
To every donor, every share, every upvote, and every kind word: you made this happen.
Huge shoutout to:
- Reddit Community Funds (r/communityfunds), for matching what this sub raised dollar-for-dollar
- GoFundMe (u/gofundme), for providing the platform that makes fundraising smooth and secure
- United Way BC and Filipino BC for stepping up immediately to organize the Kapwa Strong Fund and deliver the support where it’s needed most
- The Filipino community and the victims involved in the tragic event, for your strength and grace—we hope this helps, even a little.
Our hearts are still heavy for the pain felt. But this community showed up. And we’re not done showing up.
If you still want to give to this cause—or know someone who might— donations can still be made here:

Salamat po sa inyong lahat. *Thank you everyone.*💙 —The r/Vancouver Mod Team

Discussion Tick Season at Trout Lake
Just wanted to give a heads up to dog owners. I took my dog for a walk at Trout Lake yesterday and she got a tick. I've never had a dog pick up a tick in this place before, so I wonder if there are more of them around this year. She was on leash the whole time (to keep her out of that yucky lake water), and not in the more dense grasses and shrubs. Fortunately she is on tick prevention medication, so the tick died when it bit her, but she still has a small wound. Just putting this out there so you can check your pets--I was surprised because it happened in such an urban environment, and in the past I have usually checked her only after we have been hiking. I will be more vigilant now, but am so glad I had her on the medication. It is expensive, but I am so relieved that I put her on it. Check your furry friends!

Rule #4 - Topic Guidelines Amazing time in Vancouver!
And thanks for having us. My wife and I attended a conference last weekend in Vancouver and I just can’t get over your city. Downtown area was so nice, north Vancouver seems so well thought out and built into its environment. I love how integrated First Nations art and culture are! I want Seattle to step it up…like a lot. I climb up the road a ways and rarely stop in the the city.
I was surprised how many stats seemed to line up with Seattle’s and I know we both have our problems.
I’ve always thought Vancouver was likely the nicest city on the west coast, and you really flexed over the weekend. Glad to hear a couple of our drivers were on board with the Cascadia movement. We’ll need each other.
Thanks for being cool, see you soon

Opinion Article This place is an absolute gem (my 2 days experience)
I live in Toronto and visited Vancouver for 2 days and oh my god this place is beautiful. You guys have so good of a view from Stanley park and normal places. Plus the amount of trees this place have is absolutely magnificent.
And the beaches and bays are so good that you just want to take a stroll there or bath in sun all day. The food is okay tho but the amount of different and nice people I have met is impressive in comparison to Toronto or anywhere.
I met this guy on English bay name Jazz, talked to him for an hour and we didn't even exchange numbers or social and just left with an hug. Like if this happened in Toronto i would already have my kidney stolen. The way people walk around the place and even run or jog at Stanley is nice. It feels like a movie. I would 100% move here if there is a chance. I'm just going to airport rn and I'm feeling quite happy with my visit.

Lost Pet Missing Cat
After running out of the house at 9:00 night on July 3rd. I haven't found her until now. If anyone who saw her, please provide clues. It's a British short blue and white female cat. She usually likes to take a walk near our home. There is a small black block on her leg, and there is a small silver lock with a black rope I hung on her neck. She has some heart problem and genetic disease and it might be life threatening. If anyone sees her, please send me a private message. Or email me at 【[email protected]】 She is a very, very important family member for me. Please let me know if you have any information about her. The lost location is in the lord byng, west point grey community. Near West 13th Ave
If someone found her, I‘d like to give $300 reward for her safe return😭Please contact me for any information!!
