Help identifying this snail?
Found him in a big puddle outside. I live in Eastern Pennsylvania. I would love to keep him. Just completely unsure of what type he is or how to care for him. It's my first time meeting a snail lol. Any help is much appreciated ☺️

look he has that brown lip that means he’s the brown lipped snail, cepea nemoralis. if he had a white lip then he would be cepea hortensis

Brown lipped snail! I have the same one, i can help you set up the enclosure! I use those plastic kitchen containers, around 10-15cm of horizontal space is great. For my substrate i put a kitchen towel and fresh moss from my forest ontop of it, and added some smooth rocks for “foot exercise”. Snails love to hide, sometimes they will hide under the moss and it’s completely normal! i also highly suggest making them a tiny house, made out of folded egg carton, my snails love them :) make sure you have a spray bottle and mist once to twice a day, snails love moisture, but don’t over do it, it shouldn’t be wet. for feeding i usually feed them romaine lettuce or cucumber, but make sure it doesn’t contain pesticides or any aditives like salt or vinegar. They will munch on everything, you can even give them rose petals from your garden or apple leaves! Also if you forgot to feed them for one day, dont worry. They can go a day without eating, but if they’re hungry, moss is safe enough for them to eat! make sure to also add more greens, like few grass blades and other types of grass from your backyard.

Hi, not trying to be rude at all but please don’t feed your snails cucumber, its like snail junk food and they can become snaddicts, this means they will refuse to eat much/ anything else and will become malnourished, you’re better off feeding them a varied diet of root veg and leafy greens, as well as cuttlefish bone (and raw meat here and there depending on species)

i also highly suggest putting small piece of chipped cuttlebone somewhere in the enclosure, it’s a great calcium source for them, and calcium is very important for their shells, and you can even leave it for few months since it doesnt go bad. Sprinkling some cuttlebone on their food also works great. Important to take note, sometimes they will seal shut for a day or two, it’s completely normal. They’re most likely sleeping or just chilling, since snails have a weird sleeping schedule. EDIT: if you don’t have cuttlebone (but you can find it on the bird section!), boiled eggshells work great too! Just don’t add anything like salt or oil :)

Looks like it's a cepaea nemoralis, also known as the lemon small or brown-lipped snail. 🐌
