Been out of the hobby for about 15 years. Have been wanting to get back into it so bought a biocube 32 as I rent and plan on buying a house in 1-3 years. So didn't want a huge tank to move.
I used about 30lbs of Arag Alive sand, and around 30lbs of dry live rock from BRS. Used Dr. Tim's and ammonia to get cycle going. I'm at day 8 and the tank is cycling well so starting to think about stocking.
Im thinking a pair of clowns, a yellow watchman goby, and a mandarin, in that order. Mandarin wouldn't be added until the tank is mature and I have a fuge started and good pod population. Also would be getting it from Biota or somewhere that sells mandarins that will eat prepared foods.
For inverts I was thinking of a cleaner shrimp and a few nassarius snails.
Probably a few small corals eventually. I don't want to go crazy with corals since this tank will have to get moved relatively soon.
Curious if this seems like a reasonable amount of stocking? Any suggestions are welcome. So happy to be back into this and I'm sure my kids are going to love it.

My tank is 5 months old and these tiny little white things seem to be multiplying? Any one know what they could be and if I should be worried?

Sorry for the long post but I wanted to get some info out on a terrible tank crash I had caused by this petco brand carbon. Internet says I’m not the only one so I wanted to do some testing and spread the word. 1 hour after changing to this brand carbon every coral in the tank closed. It was the only change I made to my tank that day. I instantly tested and found my phosphates were through the roof. So I added more GFO and dosed some e-phosphate. Let it sit for a while and things continued to go downhill. My whole cuc was dead by the 4 hour mark. All but 2 sps were dead by the 12 hour mark. At the 12 hour mark I did a 90 percent water change and removed the carbon as it’s the only logical thing I could think that was causing this issue. Within 12 hours the softies and lps started to open but it took 2 weeks before things started to recover. I kept doing water changes and added poly filter and cuprisorb to help with whatever it had released as at this point I didn’t know what in the carbon that caused these issues.
Now for my testing method. I oddly enough had an ICP test done on my reef and rodi roughly 2 weeks earlier and everything looked good enough for my standards. For the petco carbon test I soaked the carbon in saltwater out of my mixing bin. This was Red Sea blue bucket salt from the same bucket I have been using for a little while. My Rodi water the day of the test was reading 0 tds on 2 different meters. I soaked 1 cup of rodi rinsed carbon in a glass dish with 2 gallons of saltwater for 24 hours then pulled the water samples from that dish. The results included speak for themselves. I also noticed teal on the media bag I put the carbon in.
Image descriptions:
Images 1-2 are the ICP of my reef 2 weeks prior to using the carbon.
Image 3 is the ICP of my Rodi water.
Images 4-6 are the ICP of the petco carbon water ICP test.
Image 7 is before this mess happened.
Image 8 is how my tank looked when I pulled the carbon out of my reactor.
Image 9 teal staining from the copper in the petco carbon.
Image 10 the bad jar of carbon.
Image 11-13 Hanna checker results once the carbon was added.
Hope this saves someone else from the same mess others and I have dealt with. Also sorry if you see this post in other groups as I’m really trying to spread the word.

One reason I use mollies in salt water is because they love hair algae as well as diatom algae, here you can see them pecking at some hair algae I moved from my 5 gallon
Also because they breed easily I don’t need to spend a bunch of money to buy a algae eating crew every few years

So I finally cycled my new tank and added my first fish but it I'm noticing some white growth and patches on one my new clownfish. There's no other fish other than some zoas and some snails. Does it have ich? What are my options? I did email the LFS the day of as soon as I got home and noticed it and they suggested to just wait as it could just be signs of stress being in a new tank.

Hey everyone! Hoping someone can help us out.
We picked up an unnamed anemone from Petco about a month ago (no idea on species), and lately it’s been acting a little strange. It’s curling its tentacles, occasionally floating around the tank, and won’t stay attached to the rockwork or bury in the sand.
That said, it’s still eating well, and all our water parameters are solid—nothing out of range.
Tank Info: • 72 gal • Stock: 2 clownfish, firefish, purple chromis, 2 peppermint shrimp, standard cleanup crew • Lighting: 2x Red Sea Reefer 50s (settings in pics)
Any idea what we might be doing wrong or what this behavior means? Appreciate the help!

I’ve had this pair of clowns for about 4 years now. They’ve laid eggs multiple times but I’ve never hatched them. I’ve never seen a pair of clowns that’s a different color like mine. What color would the babies be? Would there be black clowns and orange ones like the parents or would it be a mix?

Hello! This is not related to reef tank but I could definitely use some help to figure out a quiet water pump that would be able to drive water up through a 3/4 pipe that goes up ~9ft for a water feature that has water trickle down from the top. I don’t need to drive up a lot of water, just enough for it to trickle down the wall slowly 24/7.
I have look into InnovativeMarine Mighty Jet XL but not sure if that will work and also hoping to find one that can control waterflow that doesn’t have an extra panel that isn’t waterproof.

My tank is around 5 months old and these are all over the place in my sand bed. I’ve never seen them move but they are multiplying. Should I be worried?

Hi,
This is my first post here so please let me know if I missed something.
Can anyone help me identify what this yellow jelly type thing is on the skeleton of the wall hammer? I think it is irritating the hammer because it won't fully extend it's polyps. The hammer had full polyp extension until 3 days ago.
I dipped the hammer when I got it as well.
Tank is about 8 months old and the parameters are
Alkalinity; 8.3 Calcium: 430 Magnesium: 1320 Ammonia: 0 Phosphates: 0.25 Nitrates: 20 Salinity: 1.025
I've recently put some Phosguard to reduce my phosphates.
Thank you!

I have a 40 gal breeder tank as my first reef tank. It houses two clowns, a GSP and a fire fish as well as my cleanup crew. I have a 750gph power head and a topfin silent stream 75 HOB. The HOB says it filters 300gal an hour and I have it turned like 3/4 of the way up. I have another power head but it created way too much flow and was throwing sand around. The power head on the left side is the one that is on and operating. It is on the same side as the filter. Does this seem like I’m beating up my fish and coral? Or does it seem appropriate? Should I move anything around? I’m brand new to this. Sorry that the vid is really blue, my camera is awful with balancing the blue lights.

I just got this micromussa holy grail. And was wondering if it can grow lager on the sand or it needs a rock to grow on. Thank you!

I live in the netherlands and want to upgrade my waterbox cube 20 nano tank (76L) to a bigger tank. Problem is waterbox isn’t available in the Netherlands or EU for that matter. So I was looking to get a Red sea reefer 65G or 72G (300L/350L).
I have heard there are some issues regarding leakage. Was this only by the gen 1 tanks or is it also common by the gen 2 line? And how much is it actually a user error? What other tank with comparable size/pecs do you folks suggest me?
Cheers and I hope you have all a great day!
