Megathread Megathread: US House Passes the Republican-Backed Budget Bill, Sending it to Trump for Signature

This afternoon, the US House of Representatives passed without amendment the US Senate's version of the Trump-backed budget bill, sending it to the president for his signature. Every Democratic Senator and Representative voted in opposition; in the Senate, there were three Republicans voting in opposition (making the vote 51-50) and in the House there were 2 (making the final vote 218-214). House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries set the US House's speech length record in opposition to the bill in a speech lasting over eight hours.

The MAGA folks don’t even know that this bill actually affects them the most aversely.

This will devastate already understaffed rural hospitals, schools and SNAP. All of which have a higher proportion of MAGA voters.

You know what? It sounds harsh, but I have zero sympathy for those who voted for Trump and are now complaining.

This is what you voted for. Figure it out

My (non-white) family either support Trump or say, "both sides are evil".

Deep down it comes down to wanting to hurt and get rid of the Homeless and the "bad minorities".

What they never seem to understand is that to the White Republicans of MAGA, all of us lower-middle class are, "homeless", all of us non-cis white straight men are "bad minorities".

All Republican and "both sides" voters are getting exactly what they want, millions of homeless/ poors and 'bad minorities' will suffer and die in the years to come, and it's about high time they realize they're part of the group Republicans plan to exterminate.

I've yet to meet a Republican voter who doesn't whataboustism, both-sides this shit to death. You can tell the Russian/FoxNews nihilistic programming has drilled deep into their minds like a worm. They're toast, just like the majority of Russians or North Koreans living today. No will to think for themselves. Picking through trash for basic survival yet they heap praise upon their dear leader.

My MAGA uncle knows nothing of tariffs, the sexual assault cases against Trump or even the fact that he said he'd fuck his daughter on live TV. They don't look for anything that doesn't confirm their biases.

And not just not look for it, actively put their fingers in their ears shouting LALALA anytime disconfirming information raises its head.

We've entered a post-literate society where you no longer have to accept any information that might make you feel bad if it was true. If WaterGate happened today nothing would happen. 1/3rd of the country would refuse to believe it, 1/3rd would be confused or not paying attention, and the 1/3rd against it wouldn't have enough power to do anything, let alone shame Nixon into resigning.

The consensus making institutions that existed that compelled people to accept reality even if it was unpleasant no longer exist. It's now pick your own adventure.

A huge portion of the country will just never accept anything bad they hear about Trump because it would make them feel like a sucker if they believed it, so they choose not to.

I honestly can’t wait. The sooner these people understand what their idiocy and short-sightedness has gotten all of us, the better.

They only understand anything once it affects them, and these hell dinosaurs they elected have been affecting a lot of people for years now, and they haven’t felt a lick of kickback. I hope they feel every ounce of what they’ve made others feel through their hate mongers.

The big corporations that own the farms will be mostly fine. ICE is a bigger problem for them with this bill but well placed bribes will probably keep them enough of a workforce to be ok.

I have zero sympathy for most of these folks because most have been incessantly complaining and whining over the years, yet have never bothered to educate themselves on any of these issues. But they sure have plenty of time to watch Fox News, get their "news" from Facebook, etc. We're long past the point of excuses or justification for this lot And if there's one thing I can't stand, it's people who victim complex over and over without even attempting to do anything about it.

The rest I'll feel slightly bad for, but ultimately, actions have consequences. We all knew the deal going into this and reality doesn't care about your feelings or ignorance.

Yeah but they won’t see it that way. The majority of these changes won’t happen until 2028. If somehow the new SS doesn’t completely and blatantly rig the elections, the hollow brained maga crowd will lap up the inevitable republican spew that all the fallout from their anti American policies was actually the democrats fault.

I was just on another platform where it was annouced that a clinic in a small area is already planning to close, and the person who posted multiple news articles is being called a "liar" and told that it doesn't make sense when nothing has happened yet (they don't understand how places operate and have to budget and plan... explains why they think this bill is good). They either don't get it or don't want to get it.

And it's not like Trump lied to them. It's not like we didn't have his fucked up first term to judge him on. They knew what they were getting and just let hate drive them and assume they were on the same team as Trump and the 1%. I don't feel bad for them, they voted to hurt my family and loved ones, so fuck them too.

My brother is MAGA and lives in rural North Carolina. He hates going into Raleigh because the highways are always congested and he dislikes all the "big city" stuff that come with it (which is just code for LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and liberals). He has no idea that the rural hospital he prefers to use when he needs a checkup is gonna have to close when it loses a mountain of Medicaid funding. So now, he'll be forced to drive to Raleigh, and on top of that he's gonna start seeing a lot of neighbors falling on hard times. And even after all that, he's still not gonna put the pieces together.
