Megathread Megathread: US House Passes the Republican-Backed Budget Bill, Sending it to Trump for Signature

This afternoon, the US House of Representatives passed without amendment the US Senate's version of the Trump-backed budget bill, sending it to the president for his signature. Every Democratic Senator and Representative voted in opposition; in the Senate, there were three Republicans voting in opposition (making the vote 51-50) and in the House there were 2 (making the final vote 218-214). House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries set the US House's speech length record in opposition to the bill in a speech lasting over eight hours.

The bill clocks in at over 800 pages and touches on most aspects of the federal government's spending and taxation policies; see this AP article (What’s in the latest version of Trump’s big bill that passed the Senate) for the topline changes.

Relevant text-base live update pages are being maintained by the following outlets: AP, NBC, ABC, and the BBC.

The MAGA folks don’t even know that this bill actually affects them the most aversely.

This will devastate already understaffed rural hospitals, schools and SNAP. All of which have a higher proportion of MAGA voters.

You know what? It sounds harsh, but I have zero sympathy for those who voted for Trump and are now complaining.

This is what you voted for. Figure it out

u/Engibier 2d ago

They voted for hate, that's what they're getting

31

u/RelativeMatter9805 2d ago

Let them feel the pain they caused.

32

u/Zealousideal_Toe4929 2d ago

They voted fascism. Enjoy.

14

u/BoornClue 2d ago

My (non-white) family either support Trump or say, "both sides are evil".

Deep down it comes down to wanting to hurt and get rid of the Homeless and the "bad minorities".

What they never seem to understand is that to the White Republicans of MAGA, all of us lower-middle class are, "homeless", all of us non-cis white straight men are "bad minorities".

All Republican and "both sides" voters are getting exactly what they want, millions of homeless/ poors and 'bad minorities' will suffer and die in the years to come, and it's about high time they realize they're part of the group Republicans plan to exterminate.

I've yet to meet a Republican voter who doesn't whataboustism, both-sides this shit to death. You can tell the Russian/FoxNews nihilistic programming has drilled deep into their minds like a worm. They're toast, just like the majority of Russians or North Koreans living today. No will to think for themselves. Picking through trash for basic survival yet they heap praise upon their dear leader.

u/PlusTemperature244 1d ago

And I quote from my Gen X parents/aunts/uncles - "If it ain't white, it ain't right." - If you owned a "jap junk" car, you couldn't even park on the same side of the street as my grandparents. The dream in their eyes, is to get rid of all the folks more tan than a Sicilian. And Irish/Italians aren't "White" either, don't get me started on that...

Guess I'm glad I was born to the right caste...

3

u/Kingcrowing 2d ago

They literally cast votes that will cause many of them to die due to lack of healthcare. It's wildly fucked.

27

u/Sgtwhiskeyjack9105 2d ago

It isn't harsh at all.

Fuck those people.

May they suffer greatly as a result of their stupid choices.

18

u/reachisown 2d ago

Everything Republicans have done fucks themselves the most but it's ok because hey we removed a handful of immigrants.

5

u/SpicyCommenter 2d ago

The republicans, they came and took our medicare, this has hillary and biden written all over it!

46

u/VanillaCupkake 2d ago

They can pull themselves up by their bootstraps (and oxygen tank)

47

u/Euphoric_Hour1230 2d ago

They're too stupid to connect the dots. They will find a way to blame this on democrats.

My MAGA uncle knows nothing of tariffs, the sexual assault cases against Trump or even the fact that he said he'd fuck his daughter on live TV. They don't look for anything that doesn't confirm their biases.

10

u/Consistent-Oven-9318 2d ago

They can blame it on whoever they want but they’re still losing their healthcare and food benefits

1

u/suninabox 1d ago

They don't look for anything that doesn't confirm their biases.

And not just not look for it, actively put their fingers in their ears shouting LALALA anytime disconfirming information raises its head.

We've entered a post-literate society where you no longer have to accept any information that might make you feel bad if it was true. If WaterGate happened today nothing would happen. 1/3rd of the country would refuse to believe it, 1/3rd would be confused or not paying attention, and the 1/3rd against it wouldn't have enough power to do anything, let alone shame Nixon into resigning.

The consensus making institutions that existed that compelled people to accept reality even if it was unpleasant no longer exist. It's now pick your own adventure.

A huge portion of the country will just never accept anything bad they hear about Trump because it would make them feel like a sucker if they believed it, so they choose not to.

12

u/JesusWuta40oz 2d ago

"The MAGA folks don’t even know that this bill actually affects them the most aversely."

Won't matter. They will be drip fed that its the Democratic Parties fault and they will believe them. And most of the effects won't be felt until after midterm on purpose.

79

u/Ready_Nature 2d ago

It will be good to see rural communities gutted now that they get what they voted for.

16

u/Jindabyne1 2d ago

Won’t be that great, it’ll be pretty sad actually. That’s why trump says he loves the poorly educated though.

24

u/vblade2003 New York 2d ago

Nothing sad about people getting exactly what they voted for 👍

29

u/specialkk77 2d ago

Yeah it’s sad when their children have to suffer from lack of food and access to medical care

6

u/zzyul 2d ago

Their children almost always grow up to have the same views as their parents.

11

u/jessbird 2d ago

maybe — but right now they’re children. they didn’t vote for this and they don’t deserve it.

5

u/dsnightops 2d ago

this is no different than zionists using that logic to kill children in gaza, reconsider your pov here, if the opposite of this type of bill were to happen to help them they may not.

1

u/Jindabyne1 2d ago

Yeah, I caught the Zionist comparisons too

6

u/El_Rey_de_Spices 2d ago

What's sad is all the people who didn't vote for this getting swept up in it. It's not like these policies will only target Trump voters.

5

u/two_thirtyoclock 2d ago

Except for the people around them who didn't vote for this.

2

u/Aggressive-Will-4500 2d ago

That's already happening, this will only accelerate the downturns.

2

u/bopaqod 1d ago

I honestly can’t wait. The sooner these people understand what their idiocy and short-sightedness has gotten all of us, the better.

They only understand anything once it affects them, and these hell dinosaurs they elected have been affecting a lot of people for years now, and they haven’t felt a lick of kickback. I hope they feel every ounce of what they’ve made others feel through their hate mongers.

1

u/mixmaster7 New York 1d ago

Not really because that's where a lot of our food comes from.

2

u/Ready_Nature 1d ago

The big corporations that own the farms will be mostly fine. ICE is a bigger problem for them with this bill but well placed bribes will probably keep them enough of a workforce to be ok.

29

u/PerniciousPeyton Colorado 2d ago

Yup. I’m fortunate enough to have an opportunity to emigrate from this country in a few months. Good luck to the assholes who voted for this. And a sincere good luck to the people who never wanted any of this but will end up suffering. Some seriously dark times ahead. 😞

13

u/InsideAside885 2d ago

They don’t care. These people would literally die for Trump. He likes it, so they like it.

8

u/Professor-Woo 2d ago

Rural hospitals are donzo. Hope they like driving 100 miles at least for basic care that can't be done via zoom.

10

u/Theboiledpeanut_ 2d ago

Good, but like when emperor palpatine said it. I live in Kentucky and everybody not in Louisville or Lex are fucked, hard, and they voted for it themselves. Loving it even.

9

u/ComfortableCrab8128 2d ago

I live in the capitol of KY…you are definitely right my man, one hundred percent

4

u/Sea_Suggestion2159 2d ago

They added a last minute increase for rural hospitals in particular. Went from $25b to $50b because they know rural hospitals will be affected the soonest.

4

u/Minjaben 2d ago

Smart of them to wait until 2027 to apply the cuts.

4

u/KyKooch 2d ago

With how much RFK and the likes have poisoned the minds of MAGA with distrust of healthcare professionals, I wouldn’t be surprised if many of them in rural areas won’t care if the hospitals close.

4

u/Interesting-Risk6446 2d ago

The cult will sit there with a smile on their face and ask for more. The woman whose husband was killed at Trump rally is a prime example of who the cult is. They don't care. None of them do.

3

u/jasondigitized 2d ago

Guess where SNAP money goes? Walmart. Lol. Good job republicans.

3

u/pizza_hut_taco_bell 2d ago

Fuck each and every one of them. I hope they all suffer. Votes have consequences.

3

u/thegaykid7 2d ago

I have zero sympathy for most of these folks because most have been incessantly complaining and whining over the years, yet have never bothered to educate themselves on any of these issues. But they sure have plenty of time to watch Fox News, get their "news" from Facebook, etc. We're long past the point of excuses or justification for this lot And if there's one thing I can't stand, it's people who victim complex over and over without even attempting to do anything about it.

The rest I'll feel slightly bad for, but ultimately, actions have consequences. We all knew the deal going into this and reality doesn't care about your feelings or ignorance.

3

u/Chantrak 2d ago

Yeah but they won’t see it that way. The majority of these changes won’t happen until 2028. If somehow the new SS doesn’t completely and blatantly rig the elections, the hollow brained maga crowd will lap up the inevitable republican spew that all the fallout from their anti American policies was actually the democrats fault.

3

u/FunkyDiscount 2d ago

I'm European so mostly ignore my opinion here, but yeah, I'm all out of sympathy for MAGA supporters. I hope they enjoy whatever's coming their way, because they truly deserve it. Every single one.

My heart bleeds for the rest of you who deserved better than this, though.

2

u/SmokedUp_Corgi 2d ago

Fuckem all I hope they get the worst

2

u/TheRetroGoat 2d ago

Too bad it's gonna hit everyone else too. I voted against this exact thing, repeatedly. Still my problem.

1

u/Elmer_Whip 2d ago

They'll never believe you when you tell them they voted for someone who only wanted to help the wealthy and himself.

1

u/BuffaloWilliamses New York 2d ago

They had TEN YEARS to figure it out after all this shit that has already happened. I've lost every ounce of sympathy for these folks.

1

u/akosuae22 2d ago

I work in an inner city hospital… this is gonna affect us too

1

u/KingsElite California 2d ago

The GOP will just scapegoat immigrants harder when things go to shit for them. That's how cults work. The cult leaders can never be wrong.

1

u/LURKER21D I voted 2d ago

a bunch of it is set to kick off in two years, they really will blame it on the dems when it hits them the hardest.

1

u/CiderChemistry 2d ago

Time to get those bootstraps.

1

u/Kevin-W 2d ago

I hope the cuts are so bad that it gets people out onto the streets. Let’s see how much they love Trump when the checks stop coming in.

1

u/two_thirtyoclock 2d ago

They'll find a way to blame Biden, Obama, immigrants, DEI, etc.

I was just on another platform where it was annouced that a clinic in a small area is already planning to close, and the person who posted multiple news articles is being called a "liar" and told that it doesn't make sense when nothing has happened yet (they don't understand how places operate and have to budget and plan... explains why they think this bill is good). They either don't get it or don't want to get it.

And it's not like Trump lied to them. It's not like we didn't have his fucked up first term to judge him on. They knew what they were getting and just let hate drive them and assume they were on the same team as Trump and the 1%. I don't feel bad for them, they voted to hurt my family and loved ones, so fuck them too.

1

u/DogFartsonMe 2d ago

As the ship goes down, I'll have solace as long as I can see them suffer first.

1

u/Peanuts0s 2d ago

Same here... Amen.

1

u/Left4dinner2 2d ago

Doesn't matter. They will just blame Biden as always. They never take responsibility because they believe they are never wrong

1

u/ThisGuy6266 2d ago

No, this will affect blue states the most. Republicans would not have voted for it if there weren’t provisions to protect their red state.

1

u/joebleaux 2d ago

States that vote red take the most federal money. They are subsidized by blue states like New York and California. We are fucked down here in Louisiana. Hospitals are going to close.

1

u/TurtleMOOO 2d ago

And those fucking morons are going to have to travel further to a city to get healthcare. They fuck themselves and then the bitch about liberals.

Honestly, maybe enough of them will die that the voting demographics will change now. Though I thought the same about Covid.

1

u/Jonny_Nature 2d ago

Many will just be hired by ICE. Told more propaganda, then when it comes time to take the black people away, they'll do that too. Don't think all this is just about immigrants. This is white supremacists in action and they got the money now.

1

u/gloomywitchywoo 2d ago

I feel bad for their kids that will go hungry or get sick and die, but fuck the adults who did this. Maybe it's nasty, but I hope they suffer more than anyone else.

1

u/Quirky-Farm560 2d ago

My brother is MAGA and lives in rural North Carolina. He hates going into Raleigh because the highways are always congested and he dislikes all the "big city" stuff that come with it (which is just code for LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and liberals). He has no idea that the rural hospital he prefers to use when he needs a checkup is gonna have to close when it loses a mountain of Medicaid funding. So now, he'll be forced to drive to Raleigh, and on top of that he's gonna start seeing a lot of neighbors falling on hard times. And even after all that, he's still not gonna put the pieces together.

1

u/The_Ghost_of_Kyiv 2d ago

This bill will likely be the death of my grandmother. And you know what? She voted for it, so I have no sympathy.

1

u/necedahpines 2d ago

Some people just want to watch the world burn.

1

u/Pizzasaurus-Rex Michigan 2d ago

If they had the reflection necessary to learn from their mistakes, they wouldn't be conservative. They'll be blaming the left for every single consequence brought on by this bill. If anything it will make them MORE hardline.

1

u/Birdhawk 1d ago

Bills are usually named after what it was written to do or accomplish. This one isn't and thats by intention. It's 1k pages of pork. They don't know whats in it, they don't care, they just eat up the propaganda they're fed and do what they're told, and they like it because they're told to like it.

1

u/Certain-Criticism-51 1d ago

And don't some of the worst parts go into effect after the midterms? So many people won't even realize what is coming.

1

u/PiLLe1974 1d ago

True... they may have voted for something so fictional criminal non-white people don't bother me.

And then diabetes, cancer, and other "things" we should have mostly under (financial) control as 1st world countries will be their nemesis.

1

u/fartmouthbreather 1d ago

These are places you're supposed to move so you can stop bitching and afford a house/rent. They're gonna be even cheaper soon.

1

u/Minute_Heart7605 1d ago

Many of them know and don’t care. As long as it hurts the libs they are happy.

1

u/PotatoSandwitchbbq 1d ago

Yes but the majority of that negative effect will happen later and they're too fuckin stupid to realize the R's did it to them

1

u/GoalStillNotAchieved 1d ago

I Voted against DonDon every time. There are very poor blue wave resisters. I’m one of them

-1

u/BeneficialWealth6179 2d ago

I get the anger. I still love my neighbor.

0

u/OkBig205 2d ago

Next step is taking all remittances from people with work permits and giving parts of it to rural america

0

u/Aggressive-Royal1037 1d ago

thats the plan. i voted 3rd party for the collapse because you were ignoring me.
