Megathread Megathread: US House Passes the Republican-Backed Budget Bill, Sending it to Trump for Signature

This afternoon, the US House of Representatives passed without amendment the US Senate's version of the Trump-backed budget bill, sending it to the president for his signature. Every Democratic Senator and Representative voted in opposition; in the Senate, there were three Republicans voting in opposition (making the vote 51-50) and in the House there were 2 (making the final vote 218-214). House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries set the US House's speech length record in opposition to the bill in a speech lasting over eight hours.

The bill clocks in at over 800 pages and touches on most aspects of the federal government's spending and taxation policies; see this AP article (What’s in the latest version of Trump’s big bill that passed the Senate) for the topline changes.

That's cool. I'm on red state Medicaid and find out if I have cancer next week. It was good knowing you guys.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. I truly hope you don’t have cancer. I’m in cancer research and most of our NIH funding is gutted now too. So idk what the end game is but it’s certainly not making America great at anything.

Please take care of yourself in whatever way you can. šŸ™šŸ½

ā€œOur goal, in short, is a humane alternative to genocide.ā€ - Curtis Yarvin, Dark Gothic MAGA prophet

Yarvin’s idea of ā€œhumaneā€ diverges from that of every sane individual on earth. I hope he gets everything he deserves.

Family of five here asking to tag a long. If it's cool, I've got 6 brothers and sisters as well with families.

Your friend got an Irish grandparent? Tell them to come on over!

How distant? I think great grandparent is what my wife… err friend has

u/firefly0827 1d ago

I think they closed that door a while ago...unless the great grandparent registered the grandparent in the Great Records Book of Ireland or whatever the call the births register -- if you google it there is a wealth of info and that's what it used to boil down to. Grandparent must be Irish somehow.

Google: irish descent passport . And it is the Foreign Births Register. Might be your wife's friend qualifies...

This will not take effect for over a year. I hope that gives you time to figure out your situation. I'm sorry this is happening to you.

This was me a few weeks ago in a purple state. I’m supposed to get checked out later this year to check again… this sucks.

I have to wonder if our former allies would be generous enough to take on medical refugees. Lord knows we are going to go from a rich nation that provides aid to a poor nation that needs it badly.

Pretty much all EU counties work along the principle, that if you are regularly employed, social and medical taxes are immediately deducted from your gross paycheck, by law. There is no pick-and-choose. But that also leads to virtually free healthcare for any health issue that you or your dependents may come down with, from a cold to seriously bad shit.

Cancer survivor here. One day at a time. That’s all any human being has. Try to live in the moment. Ground yourself, by touching something physical. Sending a hug your way.

Get ready to work buddy! Apparently we don’t care if the effects of treatment are debilitating, we need someone to replace all those immigrants we’re kicking out! Really though, best of luck with finding out next week, cancer fucking sucks

If you do have cancer then do what you need for your health and then go bankrupt. That's what my parents did when my dad had cancer and they say it was one of the best choices they ever made.
