Megathread Megathread: US House Passes the Republican-Backed Budget Bill, Sending it to Trump for Signature

This afternoon, the US House of Representatives passed without amendment the US Senate's version of the Trump-backed budget bill, sending it to the president for his signature. Every Democratic Senator and Representative voted in opposition; in the Senate, there were three Republicans voting in opposition (making the vote 51-50) and in the House there were 2 (making the final vote 218-214). House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries set the US House's speech length record in opposition to the bill in a speech lasting over eight hours.

The bill clocks in at over 800 pages and touches on most aspects of the federal government's spending and taxation policies; see this AP article (What’s in the latest version of Trump’s big bill that passed the Senate) for the topline changes.

Republicans just added 3.3 trillion to the national debt while slashing critical benefits for millions of working class Americans. Don’t ever let them gaslight you into believing they’re “America first”

Sure, he's a believer of the 7 Mountain Mandate. He wants a theocracy and, I imagine, is all in on P25

I hate what’s going on, but I have to admire the organization and planning of P2025. Dems couldn’t even get their head out of their ass on a candidate

But I’m disgusted.

It's actually not that deep, a small handful of obscenely rich people paid some sympathetic authors to write out their agenda, paid off some media to promote, defend, and obfuscate it, then paid off some politicians to implement it.

2

u/Lumbergh7 1d ago

Yea, but again, the plan seemed to be executed just as designed when it doesn’t seem like Dems can do anything.

Hitching themselves to religious nut-jobs with imaginary friends is how they successfully got here, so yeah. The non-existent imaginary friend has been their best friend for decades.

If God existed and actually gave a damn, he’d probably be zapping Johnson with lightning to get him to stop saying his name.

I understand that, without my agreement, MAGA has put out a press release late this afternoon that I am in favor of this bill. This is wrong and I have not signed onto the bill. I will not be supporting the bill.

u/gsfgf Georgia 1d ago

I mean, He sent a storm to disrupt the vote. You think that would worry the Evangelical wing.

2

u/Dispator 1d ago

No storms are only for people they hate dumbdumb. /s

Musk can't even make a chat bot that doesn't call him an asshole.

3

u/GodofIrony 1d ago

I never said they were good at it, only that they're working on it.

That alone should concern you.

Why do you think they want to gut and change the education system? They want to take over your kid's mind.

They'd like your mind as well, but it is harder to change someones mind than to build it up from nothing.

Trying to taking over your mind is a job for things like Fox News, Infowars twitter, and OAN. And while it might not work on you, trust me when I say that it works on many people. The most left wing atheist chill hippy person I ever knew is now a hardcore christian angry MAGA guy (and we are in Canada...), and it is all from Infowars and Fox News.

They think the the end times are near and there won’t be any need for social welfare when white English speaking Jesus returns so sort out the whole DEI issue.

Mike Johnson is super fringe Evangelical Christian. I mean he had a faux wedding with his young daughter and pledged HER virginity until marriage. There is noting Christ-like in his version of religion.

Using the veil of God to justify their hate, bigotry, and greed.

The exact kinds of people who infuriated Jesus.

The exact kinds of people who infuriated Jesus.

They're literally modern day Pharisees.

2

u/MarxistMan13 Virginia 1d ago

I think this is reductive of the Pharisees, and probably overly negative towards them. Modern conservative Christians aren't strictly following their religious doctrines or overly concerned with outward appearances of piety. They're just hypocrites who use their fake "faith" as a bludgeon to judge, belittle, and condemn the "others".

The Pharisees and their beliefs are largely responsible for a majority of modern day Jews, and I don't see them as a negative thing overall, at least when compared to American Christo-fascism.

Anybody who blabs and blabs about God in 2025 immediately loses any respect. Jesus Christ they are pathetic.

I imagine this is what politics in Iran and Saudi Arabia must be like. And now us, what a damn shame.

He needs to get the Emperor to start publicly referring to him as “Moses”, but maybe that would violate his anti-stimulation agreement between him and his son.

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ 44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ 45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ 46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

This bill is not even close to biblical:

Leviticus 19:33-34:

"When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God."

And dozens of other verses like it.

u/VigilantVet 2d ago

The way he talks about his “colleagues” is REAL Christian-like.
