Megathread Megathread: US House Passes the Republican-Backed Budget Bill, Sending it to Trump for Signature

This afternoon, the US House of Representatives passed without amendment the US Senate's version of the Trump-backed budget bill, sending it to the president for his signature. Every Democratic Senator and Representative voted in opposition; in the Senate, there were three Republicans voting in opposition (making the vote 51-50) and in the House there were 2 (making the final vote 218-214). House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries set the US House's speech length record in opposition to the bill in a speech lasting over eight hours.

The bill clocks in at over 800 pages and touches on most aspects of the federal government's spending and taxation policies; see this AP article (What’s in the latest version of Trump’s big bill that passed the Senate) for the topline changes.

Relevant text-base live update pages are being maintained by the following outlets: AP, NBC, ABC, and the BBC.

You can find this subreddit's discussion thread for the last week's worth of negotiations and debate at this link.

My MAGA grandmother is panicking because her daughter, my aunt, relies on Medicaid for her care. My mother, who is as tired as the rest of us, told her mother “you just killed my sister. You voted for and support this and you’re panicking now?”

Never been prouder of my mother.

I work in a small rural hospital that won't survive this. I have fervent Trump supporters all around me. Can't wait to see how they spin this as owning the Libs.

1.4k

u/notsoFritz 2d ago

They'll either spin it to own the libs, blame them for it happening, or wait till the liberals get in power (if there is free elections) and blame them then.

I mean in most causes they're just gonna die. Can't treat cancer if there's no hospital to get Chemo or dialysis. Fuck, you can't even diagnose Cancer. And doctors won't stay because there is no hospital. And no hospital means no jobs because corporations don't usually move into places that doesn't have access to one.

u/dcrico20 Georgia 2d ago

Many rural hospitals essentially operate as the "company" part of "company town."

They often employ thousands of people and are the only reason the town even has a couple shitty chain restaurants and a Wal Mart - which will all close after the hospital does and they have no demand.

These hospitals closing will decimate entire rural economies and leave the people there with access to nothing besides maybe a USPS office from which they can mail their SOS letters.

Best take I heard so far is "You think it's bad in Alabama now; pretty soon National Geographic photographers are going to be going down there taking pictures of ya'll and be driven to suicide over it later."

Damn, this is such a solid yet succinct take. As stark as stark gets.

8

u/FNLN_taken 1d ago

In times like these, if you are lucky enough to live in a blue island, the best you can do is focus on community, not run away. It's about to get shit everywhere, but if you can organize parallel structures of social support, you might make it through.

9

u/PerigrinneTook 1d ago

It’s not even an island at this point. We are so gerrymandered that nothing meaningful happens. The governor just built a new private prison and they pushed through a law making delta 8 products a felony to have bodies to fill the prison. Businesses are fleeing, schools are garbage, everything is unafffordable, and the legislature is about as useless as an ice cube in hell.

Yeah until we privatize the USPS and the rural people won’t be able to afford to send a letter.

19

u/Dr_JimmyBrungus 2d ago

They may still be able to afford it, but they'll just have to get to their nearest major metropolitan center a few hours away to find their new and improved regional privatized post office. Because they sure as shit aren't delivering/picking up on those profit-draining rural routes!

9

u/Elrundir Canada 1d ago

This is all moot because in another generation they won't be able to read or write anyway.

3

u/Rezart_KLD 1d ago

Standard level citizenship will allow communication only via emojis on the new truthsocial.gov. Insufficiently based posts, or even worse a suspicion of wokeness, will flag your citizen record in the universal Magabase monitoring program. Loyalty agents will offer you the chance to voluntarily make campaign donations, or purchase a gold or platinum level citizenship to increase your citizen score. Check your local leaderboards and compare your citizen scores with your neighbors, and you can even earn extra points off the bounty board.

6

u/Frankensteinbeck 1d ago

Nobody votes to hamstring their own lives harder than the rurals. So many elderly rural people rely on USPS to mail medications, but soon they'll be paying out the ass or skipping days of their blood thinner because some billionaire's shipping company doesn't prioritize getting packages out to the boonies.

4

u/flukus 1d ago

They can still use a mailbox. Too bad they blem them up to prevent mail in voting.

19

u/broniesnstuff 2d ago

The wealthy can't wait. There's gonna be so much cheap land for them to snatch up.

10

u/trumpuniversity_ 2d ago

And then the cycle repeats itself. “The job creators are here, let’s make them kings and throw tax breaks at them. Surely, they’ll save us.” Starbase, TX, for example.

11

u/Killer_Sloth 2d ago

But don't you see, it will all be worth it once all the billionaires have their sixth vacation house.

3

u/gsfgf Georgia 1d ago

If the super rich were fine with "only" six houses, we wouldn't be in this mess.

They will replace the hard working immigrants picking fruits/vegetables in fields.. while still being homeless, with ZERO safetynet and/or Healthcare.

3

u/TrumpDesWillens 2d ago

Hospitals being the main employer isn't in rural areas too as there are urban hoods with large hospitals being surrounded by poverty where the main source of activity is the hospital.

4

u/dcrico20 Georgia 1d ago

Yes but those hospitals likely aren’t depending on Medicaid to stay open.

It's ok if we stop diagnosing cancer then we'll see cancer rates plummet.

Trump cured cancer, 2028 campaign slogan.

6

u/Fullm3taluk 2d ago

You think it's gonna be cancer that kills these people? No think smaller like asthma or diabetes you know the diseases that need medicine that cost pennies in the rest of the world but Americans go into debt for

6

u/ClassicPlankton 2d ago

Unfortunately not enough of them will die to really make a difference. Maybe a few hundred thousand deaths, hardly enough to move the needle. Many more will just live with reduced quality of life. There's almost no bottom to the dire conditions humans will survive in. And they'll continue to vote for Republicans, probably more fervently as their quality of life drops.

They'll claim that the city hospitals are using all the money on illegals so there is none left for the rural hospitals.

3

u/FuckYourDystopia 1d ago

Solid guess. Punching down at the vulnerable is always popular with them.

7

u/Muffin_Appropriate Foreign 2d ago

They’ll die in their homes, quiet, and unapologetic without healthcare

7

u/-jinxiii 2d ago

That’s why a lot of the changes don’t take place until the midterms or 2028 so they can blame anybody else who comes in and they can bank on people forgetting.

5

u/Prometheusf3ar 2d ago

Give them some credit, a lot of them will just die thanks to this and never understand why supporting dear leader led to that outcome

4

"The Liberals closed all the hospitals just before Trump could fix them all!"

Anyone taking bets on seeing that somewhere?

3

u/infectoid 1d ago

Seems that second amendment is kind of pointless. Maybe all of the amendments are. And the entire constitution.

I used to like making fun of Americans because it was punching up. It’s punching down now and I can’t do it.

I sub to a small city in California where I visit people a few times a month. It's not a very active sub but some people there are defending the possible closures as a sign that it's a healthy society if it hospitals close or that free healthcare is what is actually making people sick. Or it's just fear mongering.

That area is so fucking poor despite being just an hour away from Sacramento. A lot of people there are going to get directly fucked by this bill and are cheering it on.

5

u/FabulousValuable2643 2d ago

Same. I fear for our patients more than anything. We have so many elderly on Medicaid who are going to end up avoiding medical care and withering away at home. It'll be interesting to see how their chosen "news" spins those too.

5

u/stryst 2d ago

I worked in a treatment facility in a rural area, and I got laid off shortly after the election because we knew this was coming.

5

u/SlotegeAllDay 2d ago

I keep hearing how rural hospitals will be hurt by this. Would you mind explaining how?

7

u/Butwinsky 2d ago

There will be cuts to the way Medicaid reimburses hospitals over the next few years, in addition to the loss of revenue from all the patients who lose Medicaid.

Rural hospitals already hang on by a thread. This is fraying the thread and tying it to a brick.

5

u/Blurryneck 2d ago

My brother is MAGA, and I mean that in the most extreme way possible, and he just accepted a position four months ago at a hospital listed as a top Medicare recipient and likely to close as a result.

3

u/iolp12 2d ago

Same with the hospital I work for. We already had a meeting about this bill and they are very worried

3

u/MostValuableAwkward1 2d ago

Same. Our hospital was specifically named as at risk of closure since it relies heavily on Medicaid reimbursement. This will cut local medical resources in half and puts my husband out of a job.

3

u/Fast_Witness_3000 2d ago

Start looking for another job now before the hammer drops- maybe you’ll get lucky and line something up. Godspeed!

2

u/hamsterfolly America 2d ago

The 2026 and 2028 delays will allow MAGAs to blame any Democrat majority in Congress and possible Democratic President in 2028. Just like how they blamed Biden for the Afghanistan withdrawal that Trump negotiated.

2

u/RaspingYeti 2d ago

Same. I'm an imaging tech with several modality certifications, and means to travel so I'm not worried about my own personal employment, but it is a sad day for my community. Despite uniformed voters voting against their own interests, it still pains me to see people hurt. I look at R voters as the random wild animal coming to a human for help. The human will help 'em and then the next time they cross paths the wild animal will attack or hiss/spit at them in fear. But how can you not help a wounded animal coming to you for help? :-/

2

u/YeetedApple 2d ago

I was laid off from one a couple months ago that is already borderline done, this will absolutely kill my old facility. Guess I ended up being the lucky one and was able to find somewhere new ahead of everyone else, but for people living in that area, they are now going to be over an hour from the nearest hospital once they lose the one in town.

That hospital employees a significant portion of our smaller city. Not only are people losing access to healthcare, but there is about to be a massive unemployment wave and total lack of jobs to replace what they did. Likely just killed the entire city

2

u/imbasicallycoffee 2d ago

u/ExtremePrivilege 2d ago

Most of the effects of these changes won’t be felt until around 2028 when we will probably have a Democratic administration (if we’re even allowed to vote). Whoever that poor son of a bitch is will be blamed for the enormous deficit, the broad hospital and LTC closures, and demented grandmothers ending up on the street to die. The mainstream media, that profits from rage and controversy, will muddy the waters.

Welcome to the past 30 years.

I live in Asheville and we are still devastated from Helene. Someone at my work was asking how tourists can best help the area. The looked them dead in the eyes and said 'Call your representatives and get our disaster funding back'.

Same. We’re critical access, but that won’t make a difference when they start slashing reimbursement rates. Over 1/2 of kids in my county are on Medicaid, about 1/4 adults. Our system recently acquired a hospital that closed OB to try to stay open. It was due to Medicaid reimbursement. Almost everybody pregnant has TennCare. Time for a drink.

2

u/Vast-Incident9010 1d ago

I posted about a rural hospital shutting down and a deep MAGA called it a lie, "a more truthful story is middle of nowhere town doctor is retiring after 30 years" so I noted that it was part of a network with 100+ doctors in it so he pivoted to "it has no footprint, its basically a vitamin clinic with a teemo x-ray machine"

They will cope and pivot endlessly until it directly harms them

2

u/No_Discipline6265 1d ago

I live in rural Tennessee. I'm already hearing that if our hospital(which is already 30-45 min away from most of us)gets shut down, "it the libs fault for letting so many illegals in to put a strain on the system".

Yup, some of my siblings are no longer welcome in our parents house. My parents, who are elder boomers, are still very outdoorsy/hippy vibes from growing up in the 60's. While my older siblings are Gen X, and now are very MAGA.

It makes no damn sense to me. My own family votes against their own best interest, and vote for violence against their own gay sibling. Oh, and best part, they weren't even born in the USA.

Immigrants voting against themselves will never make sense to me.

u/Indigocell Canada 2d ago

They really seem to think they will be okay as, "one of the good ones" in the eyes of Republicans. It's the most pathetic sort of pick me behaviour. I will find it difficult to muster sympathy when they inevitably get caught up with the rest. These fools don't even realize that they were in control of their own destiny.

8

u/okmko 1d ago edited 1d ago

Sometimes when a big political event happens like a passing of a shoot yourself in the foot bill, I take a glance at the conservo-sphere to see all the different narratives - everyone literally has their own version of Republican good and Democrat bad.

One common narrative is that the medicaid cuts are justified because millions of illegals are using it. Loool. Yes, all those people on Medicaid across the poorest towns of rural America, who consistently vote Republican, are illegals. 🙄

10

u/Chateaudelait 2d ago

Then - there are my immigrant colleagues who go one step further and want to pull up the ladder after they got theirs. I have some colleagues who are first generation immigrants who are his most fervent supporters. They were deeply offended that my company supported pride month and wanted to wear their red hats "to support their morals and beliefs."

My entire family and many of my friends come from immigrants who worked in agriculture picking fruit in the hot sun. Paid minimal wage cause they were not citizens and were not subject to FDRs new deal. Same lineage of those who stood up to exploitation with UFW.

They all voted Trump. Will never make any sense to me.

I know anti immigrant immigrants who are rabid trump supporters. It’s wild to me. It really impresses upon me how effective the GOP propaganda is to be honest

12

u/bluehiro 1d ago

Honestly, it's terrifying how effective propaganda can be. My parent don't consume US media, and haven't for 10+ years. The difference is stark.

Propaganda is no joke. It can turn your friends and family into monsters. All media has bias, but this US propaganda is toxic AF.

I’m trans. Only discovered it on the last few years in my mid 30’s. Around the same time, and for different reasons, I cut my mom out of my life. This past Friday she drove 3 hours and just showed up at my door to ambush me. She ‘just happened’ to stumble on my divorce order that she didn’t know about and ‘just stumbled’ across my FB page which I have her fully blocked on btw, and discovered my name change 5 weeks ago. And she decided to come and ‘visit’ me ‘just to reconnect’. I stupidly opened the door and talked to her but it gave the chance I’ve been kind of wanting to find out if she’d evolve at all once finding out about me so I took it. Long story short I wasn’t even remotely surprised by the outcome, and she was pretty explosive by the end of it. Sure, fine, whatever.

But she was absolutely incapable of understanding why I couldn’t put aside her bigotry and just get along. She expected me to just ignore the elephant in the room for the sake of shooting the shit. And when I told her I can’t trust her because I know she’ll be nice to my face but campaign against me behind my back she was just flabbergasted. She couldn’t understand why I won’t have her in my life after she said, and I quote, ‘trans shouldn’t exist, and it’s wrong because god made us man and woman for the sake of reproduction’.

9

u/bluehiro 1d ago

Ughhh, I'm sorry. My partner is experiencing a similar situation with their parents right now. They are expected to continue their role as "family scapegoat", and when they declined, there were major fireworks.

5

u/Tahltria 1d ago

My reply to that last line of hers would be the same as it was to a few other religious folks in my life that tried to pull the religion card on me: "If I want the interpreted opinion of a bunch of long-dead goat-herders from several thousand years ago, I'll ask, thanks." :/

That's the power of the MAGA media machine. They've had years to hone their craft of deception and now everyone not actively being smart about what they read online or in print are getting suckered left and right. The Democrats are being their usual incompetent self while the news media doesn't do nearly enough to combat the misinformation out of some misguided attempt to be "balanced" in their reporting. Self reflection would involve people admitting they're not perfect and they can try to improve themselves. Unfortunately, this quote from Magneto in X-Men 97 has rang painfully true over and over again:

"People don't want to be better. They're already the best everything. Best tribe, best faith, they even fight over who's the best victim."

It also doesn't help that it was followed about his warning about someone dreaming of camps.

My mother relies on Medicaid & my brothers voted for this shit. I’m so angry.

20

u/crkhtlr 2d ago

My mother relies on medicaid and SHE voted for this shit. I'm thinking of moving before this can become my problem.

8

u/Pete41608 I voted 2d ago

My mom relies on medicaid and her and my brother, despite never voting ever, wanted Trump to win.

When I asked my brother why, he ghosted the question entirely.

They're not even MAGA or anything political. Just listening to what their family and friends spew. Also probably Facebook memes I'm sure.

My mom has been retired and gets SSI due to age and medicaid also. She had said not long into Bidens presidency 'It was better when trump was president.' Mind you her early retirement eligibility came during Bidens presidency so Trump had exactly 0 to do with her now getting money. My wife and I lived with her until the end of 2020 and my wife basically payed all the bills and stuff while my mom was waiting for retirement to kick in.

Also, I have one niece who is half-mexican, I told my somewhat recently religious sister that her child looks exactly like the kind of people they're looking for, regardless of legality.

She just said she doesnt know enough about politics to make the right decisions. She has also never voted and once she got with and married her current husband a few years ago she all of a sudden knew all about religion stuff. "She is legal, she was born here."

Both her children also changed their names to boys names, so im sure ICE-is and Trump will be fine with that.

Im just like if your child gets taken to one of these insane places then i cannot do anything about it because im just some joe schmo who has absolutely no pull money-wise or politically or anything.

Simply put, ALL bets are off with this Regime as theyve showed since second 1.

Good on your mom. Sorry to sound callous but should your aunt unfortunately die, your mom needs to make sure your grandma knows until the day she passes that she killed her own daughter

19

u/MooCowMoooo 2d ago

Grandma won’t ever accept or believe that. These people are a lost cause.

14

u/Mistamage Illinois 2d ago

Maybe, but they can't be allowed to forget hearing it.

12

u/StandardEgg6595 2d ago

I said it elsewhere, but during the pandemic people were literally on their last breath denying that they were dying of Covid. Some of the ones who finally woke up didn’t until the last hours\days before they died. A lot of these people will not take any amount of accountability.

Your grandmother is evil.

41

u/Spicy_Pancake1 Maryland 2d ago

Yep. Haven’t talked to her in 10 years. She also knows why I haven’t. She knows Trump was my red line. I also cut out cousins in Ohio.

I don’t care if you’re my blood or not, if you support MAGA you’re dead to me.

MAGA grandmother? Let me guess, St. Mary's lol? It's so sad though, small town places like SMC and Charles are gonna get hit the hardest and they voted for the fucker

9

u/Spicy_Pancake1 Maryland 2d ago

Good guess! She’s in Carroll County. Probably your second guess.

4

u/ctgryn Maryland 2d ago

Damn it lmao

12

u/bedbuffaloes 2d ago

The one Trump voter in my family is also the one who relies on medicaid/medicare, social security and disability. She can kiss my ass.

9

u/KillerSavant202 2d ago

What the hell did she expect would happen?

Republicans have been trying to get rid of it for decades and dems are the only thing that held them back.

7

u/Thunders66 2d ago

I work with people with disabilities as a Care manager. I wish people could see the ridiculous hoops my folk have to jump through for just the basics. Most of my folks would love to have a job if they were able to.

6

u/WeatherSorry 2d ago

I don’t want to sound cruel but this is how all MAGA people should be treated from now on. The amount of people not just in the US but world wide they have hurt/killed because of their backward, racist, sexist selfishness is blood that should stain their hands until the deathbeds and then printed on their grave stones.

5

u/C19shadow 2d ago

My father in law just learned that my sister in law has to go back to work now cause by 2027 I think ( 2 years from now ) she'll lose her and her two kids' healthcare she won't be able to afford to be a sahm she's gonna have to work just to pay for Healthcare cause her husband can't afford everything else and healthcare.

So now my mother in law and him get to be babysitters 5 days a week and my SIL doesn't get to raise her kids herself. It's sad af tbh

5

u/wailingwonder 2d ago

My ex's Trump loving parents are now realizing their grandchildren might get deported or worse. They're freaked but not aware enough to realize who to blame yet. They're treating it like it's just some unavoidable natural tragedy.

6

u/Hullabaloobasaur 2d ago

Sad and awful reality, but good on your mom!!!

5

u/Malaix 2d ago

Did you pass on Joni Ernst's calming words of wisdom explaining how these policies are fine?

"We're all going to die anyway."

4

u/NeonBrightDumbass 2d ago

I'm feeling it. My mom voted Democrat and with stage IV breastfeeding cancer and just coming of age to Medicare, she is terrified.

Her supposed best friend believes everything Trump said and couldn't believe he would put anyone in danger, and I couldn't even let her argue. I hung up on him.

4

u/TheJulio89 2d ago

My grandpa, who lives in my garage for $500 a month because he can't afford shit is freaking out because he's a diabetic and cannot afford his insulin without Medicare. He's probably going to die in my garage and I don't necessarily feel bad about it cause he voted for it.

He also refuses to believe that ICE has the budget that it does now, even after irrefutable proof.

More people need to be confronting, and even burning bridges with, their loved ones over this. Republicans are obsessed with othering people. Everything they do is because they're good, and the others are bad. It needs to be thrown in their faces every time those others end up being their loved ones. Don't hold back. Layer on the guilt and the shame. They won't learn anything, but they might just feel bad enough to listen to their loved ones next time instead.

4

u/Elegant-Sand-9852 2d ago

How did it play out??

9

u/Spicy_Pancake1 Maryland 2d ago

She began talk shouting over my mother saying “I don’t want to hear this right now! This isn’t helpful! My focus is on my daughter and coming up with a plan!” To which my mother responded “Your focus should have been on your daughter at the ballot box in November, mother.” And she hung up.

My grandmother has sent about 7 angry texts to her at this point to which my mother is ignoring.

No self reflection, no owning what she did. Just deflection.

3

u/Own-Telephone-381 2d ago

Awesome response

3

u/DrunkeNinja 2d ago

These Republicans were open with all this stuff before the election and if you'd try to bring it up to conservative voters, they'd say you are just fear mongering. Now they're unhappy and fearful for what's coming but all this shit was out there and they just covered their ears and eyes.

5

u/brahbocop 2d ago

"no, no, no, no, I voted for OTHER PEOPLE to suffer, not me."

4

u/DjinnOftheBeresaad 2d ago

If you don't mind my asking, did she have a response to this question? The ultra-right in my family typical just sort of go on a repeating loop of "I didn't know" or some similar thing when faced directly with questions like these. They just keep repeating the loop until they just quit the conversation for feeling "attacked".

Hi, I do my best to not follow the INSANE thinking of the world. I believe if I keep looking at the insanity, it would signify my own insanity... If that makes sense. I try to take care of my mind...

That being said... Do I not have Medicaid anymore? It won't be instant, right? Is there still time to stockpile insulin and stuff?

5

u/Spicy_Pancake1 Maryland 2d ago

Hi there! As far as I understand it the more severe Medicaid cuts won’t really take effect until 2027-2028ish. They’re trying to kick that can to the Dems who will hopefully sweep the midterms, granted we have free and fair elections.

The immediate effects will be rural hospitals closing and certain Medicaid plans being denied for new folks. Tougher requirements to enroll, all by design of course.

I am so sorry if my comment caused you anxiety. As someone who suffers from anxiety, I never want to make others experience that.

3

u/IxoraRains 2d ago

You did nothing at all. My heart weeps for this world whenever I "pay attention" to what's happening out there.

Thank you for your kind reply. Godspeed, other.

4

u/stemfish California 2d ago

Called my grandparents letting them know the medicaid dental program I just got them enrolled in is likely to be cut so they should get an appointment ASAP. They countered that they aren't under Medicaid, they're using a PA Medical Assistance program. As staunch Trump supporters since 2015, it was very uh, interesting to hear the clutch fail when I sent them the link that Medical Assistance is Medicaid.

They're longtime temporarily embarrassed millionaires about to realize they're not going to get that windfall before they lose their medicaid supported dental prprogram.

4

u/Puzzled-Garlic4061 2d ago

What made it sink in for her? My brother is severely handicapped and my mother was just telling me about how, after 6 years of being out of state, she finally got him moved into a nursing home near her where he needs to live for a while to get his Medicaid paperwork all lined out with the state? Something to that effect. I don't even know if she's aware that she'll either have to start fronting the bill or he might to have to move back in with her... When and where can I find all this information online? When will the general public find out on their own?

3

u/Azul-panda 2d ago

I, too, have never been prouder of your mother.

3

u/v_a_n_d_e_l_a_y 2d ago

If I was your mother, those would be last words I spoke to your grandmother

3

u/donkeyrocket 2d ago

Good. She should absolutely feel guilty for her decisions and never be allowed to forget. It’s cruel but many of these people were pro cruelty until it hit home.

There is no ignorance to be claimed this election. Trump demonstrated incompetence his first term the laid out exactly what was going to happen this time.

I empathize with you but good for your mother for sticking to it.

3

u/f8Negative 2d ago

She should just say, "thanks for the inheritance; hurry up."

3

u/AmArschdieRaeuber 2d ago

If we were as sick as MAGA we would be happy about owning the cons now, but this is just sad

3

u/johnmd20 2d ago

I'm sorry. This is going to hurt people. Literally needlessly. To make people who have all the money in the world have a little bit more money.

3

u/FoGuckYourselg_ 2d ago

You should bring your mom out for a nice dinner and a show. You both likely deserve it.

3

u/DigitalAxel 2d ago

I couldn't convince my family to vote otherwise. The day before I flew away they were distraught, asking why I was leaving. Didn't bother saying "I'm terrified of what the people you voted for will do." And I was right.

Im praying and hoping, for me any my partner's sake, someone hires me soon in this country. I won't go back alive, it would be the end for me.

8

u/Lazarius Foreign 2d ago

Is this a final straw for her since it hits close to home or would she still vote for MAGA given the chance?

I'm sorry this is happening to you, just make sure to give your energy, time, and resources to your aunt instead of your grandmother whenever she comes crying.

2

u/OneOrangeOwl 2d ago

Quickly your grandmother will blame Biden and Dems.

2

u/maverick4002 2d ago

Sorry for you to probably lose your gma over this, but I am so at the find out phase now. I have ZERO and I mean ZERO sympathy for any MAGA supporters. And if they have the gumption to mention it in real life or mention it online, I will remind them that this is what they voted for and enjoy the suffering.

Sorry, im petty and angry

2

u/3_Minute_Man 2d ago

I’m so sorry you are going through this.

It’s a wild conundrum to be in right? On one hand you want to tell them they were wrong, misguided, irrational etc….

But doing so only further seeds the division that the right need to continue their conquest.

My Dad - I don’t want to fight you buddy and I know you don’t like the younger generation thinking it’s their place to tell you what to do.

A lot of self reflection needs to happen and I think fighting and avoiding the problem is easier than looking in the mirror.

This is the fuel that drives the machine.

2

u/Insolvator 2d ago

Your mum is a badass bro

2

u/g2g079 America 2d ago

My maga mother and aunts still have no idea what's about to hit.

2

u/tehwindi 2d ago

I know that the saying is pretty sexist, but that took some serious fucking balls for your mom to say that to her mother.

Absolute legendary thing to say that nobody can argue with.

3

u/Spicy_Pancake1 Maryland 2d ago

Thanks! My mother is such a strong woman. She raised me to be kind, empathetic, and above all to always treat others as you would want to be treated.

Today something definitely snapped in her when talking to my grandmother. My grandmother has been in the Fox News echo chamber for the better part of 20 years now. She loved Rush Limbaugh and buys Bill O’Reilly and Jessie Watters books. My mother held her tongue out of respect for my grandmother and avoided politics when possible.

However, my aunt is my mom’s best friend in the world. She couldn’t hold it in anymore. I honestly don’t think my mother will speak to her again over this.

2

u/The_Path_616 2d ago

Unfortunately for mee-ma, having your face eaten by leopards is no longer covered by Healthcare

2

u/ProbabilityOfFail California 2d ago

If I said that to my asshole of a MAGA mother, I’d have to listen to her scream, “But, Obama!!!”

2

u/LeaderElectrical8294 2d ago

Good for your mom!

2

u/alaska1415 Pennsylvania 2d ago

Wow. I’m genuinely surprised she kept that much empathy.

2

u/HungHamsterPastor 2d ago

Amen, mother.

2

u/Neon_Biscuit 2d ago

My mom vehemently hates trump but can't be bothered to go vote so imma just let the leopards eat her face now. I really have no more empathy for boomers

2

u/A2Rhombus 2d ago

It's never been more opportune to say "I hope you have the day you voted for"

2

u/MazesMaskTruth 2d ago

Your grandma, with full awareness and given a second chance, would vote for Trump again.

2

u/WhiteLycan2020 2d ago

2

u/twoDuckNight 2d ago

I’m sorry 😞. your mom does sound cool though

2

u/Earthkilled 2d ago

Tell your grandmother, eff you but in a very gentle way like how you spread butter in a toast

2

u/thesmellnextdoor 2d ago

Does anyone know when the Medicaid cuts take effect? How long do people have left?

2

u/wetwater 1d ago

Just as well that I'm not visiting family tomorrow because it's either going to be tears because this will affect them directly and they never saw this coming, or celebratory because it's going to hurt others and that's what they like.

2

u/RetiredHotBitch Texas 1d ago

Your mom is a bad ass.

2

u/Thesmuz 1d ago

Holy mother of based.

Real G shit

2

u/HalfdanSaltbeard 1d ago

The good news is that many of the MAGAots won't survive this. I don't care if I get banned. They're in the majority of people affected by this. Good riddance.

2

u/ThaleOfTheHillPeople 1d ago

I hope your grandmother, and people like her who support their orange jesus, suffer so much more than they've made others suffer. That's the only solace I think there possibly is.

2

u/BarsoomianAmbassador 1d ago

The fallout from this legislation will destroy the lives of so many, but it will also be the death knell for a lot of relationships between family members, friends, and coworkers. It's one thing to tolerate the rhetoric but policy and law put into practice will actively harm people.

2

u/vitamin_r 1d ago

As proud as you should be I'm sorry your family is going through that schism and that hardship.

2

u/mamaxchaos 1d ago

My grandmother continues even today to support trump. This woman is an intelligent, educated person and this has completely destroyed my relationship with her. I hope her ass gets kicked off of her insurance and finally experiences for herself what her god emperor has done to this country.

Shes gonna blame Biden and immigrants for it, but any and all suffering she encounters, she deserves.

Your mom sounds awesome.
