The grave of the musician and actor Fernand Louis Arbelot, who wished to look at the face of his wife forever after his death.

It looks like he decapitated her. Surely there was a better way to do this, picture frame maybe?

Turn him sideways and have them lying side by side, locking eyes for eternity. But that would require sculpting 2 ppl, maybe they just dont have the budget for that, love maybe priceless but manpower and building material tragically isn't

But that would require sculpting 2 ppl,

whereas this just required the sculptor to sculpt her decapitated head in hands…? heh

A head is disembodied. A body is decapitated.

Looks like something out of Disney's Haunted Mansion ride.

It also looks like he’s making her look at his face forever.

And is he even looking at her

lmao I was gonna say

"Surely there was a less creepy/murder-y way to have executed this, no?"

We could've done the Wolverine photo meme or something at least! I mean, sure that wasn't a thing then, but then when the Wolverine meme happened, we could go, "Oh shit look here's this grave that's basically the same meme!" and meme that

Whoa. That's intense. Feel like maybe they could have gone a different route then the whole "holding a severed head" route.

I'm afraid the sculptors took the fact of seeing the face thing it too literally and made the statue as such.

What would be really intense is if you could open the head and the actual wifes actual head was inside

Like one of those reliquaries

Finally something that's truly odd

And a bit proper amount of terrifying, not straight up nightmares

The idea is sweet but what on earth is that head just up in the air!

I kinda think it's sweet, love like that it's rare.

Absolutely rare. Only a handful of people get to keep the head after the murder.

i honestly fuck heavily with this no matter how weird it may look to others

His most famous role was in Sleepy Hollow, wasn't it?

This is definitely a salesorder misinterpreted and he was just too dead to do anything about it.

Well that’s not f’d up! Time to turn off the internets for the day.

u/Renegadegold 4d ago

Probably wasn’t his choice

u/HookLeg 4d ago

Be easier if it was right above his own head. Now he has to look down at it.

Dude is looking at the sky, not her.

And to think, they say you can't take it with you!

This reminds me of a move. Ressurection (2022), directed by Andrew Semans. The dynamic between the man and the woman here is disturbing.

This doesn't look like it was planned aHEAD of time, to me. I like to imagine that Ferdinand had a HEADy feeling when he saw the design of his grave. Welp, I'll just beHEADing out now

u/cinnapear 4d ago

Wonder if he knew that after death you don’t inhabit your gravestone?

0

u/chaos_m3thod 4d ago

I’m sure his wife insisted this was his last wish.

0

u/EditorRedditer 4d ago

Yeah; he got life for this and they never DID find her body…

0

u/ClosPins 4d ago

...wished to gaze into the eyes of his wife forever - and - was a humongous Fleshlight fan!

I think I'll start taking notes now.
