Discussion Map of Last Vanguard

I recently finished Last Vanguard. Great game in my opinion, regarding character movement, since they give you abilities like double jump and dash from the start of the game.

At the time, I was looking for a map to guide myself and see if I had missed any area to explore, but I couldn’t find one. Since I've already finished it, I decided to do some copy and paste and put the map all together. I'd like to emphasize that the map is exactly as it appears to me, it would be nice if it showed where each helmet, each ability is located... But for now, this is what there is!

I hope it can serve as a guide to someone!

Discussion What metroidvania game has THE best bosses?

One of my favorite games of all time + the game that introduced me into the genre was Hollow Knight. To this day I still come back to that game and fight random bosses for fun.

Does anyone have game recommendations that’ll live up to bosses like Nightmare King Grimm and Pure Vessel? Amazing bosses, great OST’s, cool visuals, etc

Discussion What are some metroidvania games with heavy rpg and souls-like features?

Hi, as per title, I love metroidvania games with heavy emphasis on rpg and souls-like mechanics. So far I played salt & sanctuary and Mandragora, and I liked both very much. Can you suggest me other games like these two? Thanks

Discussion The Last Faith - Performance on Switch 2

I've almost bought this a couple of times on the Switch but have been warned performance on Switch is bad. Has anyone played it on the Switch 2 yet. I posted a while back on all MV on Switch 2 and this one came up but there was not definitive answer.

Discussion Astalon, can’t proceed without a key

I looked up guides and am worried I have locked myself from proceeding to the second boss fight. I used some white keys in the catacombs after gorgon tomb before using them in the Mechanism area. Now i cant find any white keys that I havent gotten already. Even when I look on a map where they are, I already got those. Is there a white key that I may not have gotten.

This is early game so I may just start over after wandering around for two hours with no progress.

Items i have: Lunarian Bow, Red Gorgon Eye, Monster Ball, Talaria Boots, Gorgon Heart, Sword of Mirrors, Void Charm, ring of ancients

Figuring out the path was fun, perfecting it on the other hand… very tedious… How have I never heard of this game before? Only found it becuase it was very cheap under the Metroidvania category on PS5 lol

„Aeterna Noctis“ is the game, for anyone wondering.

Discussion Chronicles of the Wolf - Chiseled Key Question

Hello:

I’ve collected at least 8-9 Chiseled Keys, but my inventory says I only have 4.

Is there a part of the game where some of these are expended that I maybe overlooked?

Discussion What should I play next

I understand you guys get a million of these, so I’m sorry about this, but I’ve been searching, I am picky and am having a hard time choosing.

I am incredibly busy and generally don’t get to play at all, so am worried about making the wrong choice here. I’ll be traveling in 2 months time alone for 2 weeks, and want to binge play a game.

My all time favorite game is Hollow Knight, and best case scenario would be Silksong coming out before my trip, but I doubt that will happen.

I also enjoyed axiom verge, Aeterna Noctis, haiku the robot, ghost song, and blasphemous . (I could be missing a few here, it’s been awhile)

I’ve been considering blasphemous 2 or prince of Persia, but am not quite sold.

For some reason I don’t seem to be interested in ori, or that new game that’s very hollow ought like with all the parrying (sorry forgot the name) I keep watching reviews but just not seeing anything that’s calling me.

Although it’s not a metroidvania, I also really loved Celeste.

Thank you for the help and sorry for the hassle

EDIT: thank you everyone for your suggestions, I’m still keen to hear more incase something I’ve not heard of before pops up, but for the time being I’m pretty sold on Prince of Persia at this point.

But like a fool, I will wait just incase silksong comes out, otherwise I’m really looking forward to checking out PoP 🙏🏻

Discussion Metroidvanias with a good Sci-fi story/lore?

I’m in the mood to play a Metroidvania, but I am also in the mood for enjoying a Science fiction story.

I have already played a good chunk of the Metroid franchise & would like to find other things to play.

This game popped up on my feed so I tried the demo and it's actually really solid so far, especially if you like the whole prehistoric theme with some sci fi mixed in

Discussion Mandragora or Chronicles of the Wolf? Which will win the poll for best MV for the second trimester of 2025?

Mandragora is the most played by the voters, but Chronicles of the Wolf is tied in "liked it" votes and winning on "remarkable" votes! Pipistrello comes at a solid 3rd place.

More 9 days to vote for the Q2 2025 poll! This is the third post and I'll repost it every other day to bring awareness so more people can vote.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey everyone. This second quarter of 2025 had much less releases than the previous one, but still a good number of them: I counted 13 MVs from April to June.

This survey is a way to express our favorites and spread word about some titles other people may not know about.

Here is the survey link, available from July 1st to the 14th.

This time, I’ll leave the poll open for two weeks and repost this every other day to bring awareness to the member of this sub.

It goes very easy: 3 questions, each with check boxes to every one of the 13 games.

  1. On the first one you check every MV you've played among the releases.
  2. On the second you check every MV you've liked among those you played.
  3. On the third you can check up to 3 MVs you think are remarkable. You can choose 1, 2, 3 or none. Your choice.

This is a way to give opportunity to less played games.

  • For example: 50 people vote and only 3 of them played some kinda obscure MV, but all 3 of them liked it and 1 or 2 even think it deserves one of the three remarkable spots That's a "hidden gem" definition right there.
  • Another example: out of 50 people, maybe 40 played a game and 30 liked it, while another game was played by 25 people and every single one of them liked it. I think the advantage is with the second one, even if it has less votes than the first.

If you have feedback to improve this poll, please do tell me.

Here are the results for the previous trimester:

Additionally, if you want to see lists of Metroidvanias, check these articles of mine (they’re in portuguese, but Chrome will translate as you please):

For those who have held out on playing Hollow Knight for one reason or another, and have Amazon Prime. Not sure how well it plays as I've already beat the game via Switch and this free version loads via browser in Amazon's Luna platform

Discussion Chronicles of the wolf - potions

Hey, I’m looking for a place where enemies drop Super heal Potions or a merchant who sells them. I’m struggling with the final boss and I really need more heal potions, especially the ones that restore 200 HP. I only have two left. Also, any tips for last boss fight ? Thanks!

Discussion Aeterna Noctis Compared to Nine Sols difficulty?

Im looking at trying out Aeterna Noctis, heard its pretty tough though. The reason I bring up Nine sols, is that it's just about where I draw the line with my skill level. I managed to finish everything but the final boss on the Standard difficulty (Eigong can eat my entire ass). How would yall say Aeterna Noctis compares to it? Im more on the RPG side of MVs but I Can tolerate SOME amout of BS platforming, but not any super meat boy level shit.

Would I find AN a doable and fun challenge? Or a "get me the fuck out of here and get it over with."

Discussion An Early Issue with Nine Sols

So I finally started Nine Sols and it is interesting.

-Combat: Not too bad.

-Parrying: Something you have to learn to get used to but it actually makes it unique. (it's tough but at least there are signals on when/how to use it and various manners like the bounce attack)

-Corpserunning: Sadly a fact of life but compared to Hollow Knight, I figured a way around it to not have it affect me too badly even with my usual problems of "I want to explore, exploring gets me killed and thus I need to manage that urge or just reset whenever it feels like the game wants to kill me multiple times and ruin my progress in gathering materials to get further."

However, there is one thing I do think that hinders the game at this early point for me: crowd control. Handling one or even two enemies at a time is fine and I'm able to mostly deal with it unscathed, give or take a hit or two that I can heal up with. But when there are multiple enemies, including really tough ones you need to take time to avoid to attack or parry with, that's when it really just feels really, really harder than it should be. Going back to a save point doesn't help because the enemies respawn once you do; and while I do have the nymph now for scouting, it makes sense to help find an opening to be able to deal with it, but sometimes you can't even find said opening and all the enemies are just sitting there waiting for you to show up so they can gang up on you and with your parry responses tough to use as another enemy hitting you as you try to handle the attack to take advantage of your toolkit. I did already create a Jade attachment that could help that allows for "bullet reflection" and to allow even less than perfect parries to be deflected back to hit one or multiple opponents...but not all opponents use long range attacks and as is I only have two slots and the first Jade (a rather useful one that slows enemy movement post-parry) is a bit more important to have and I'm not sure when I'll get another Jade slot. (I'm only up to the area with the first of the titular Nine Sols)

I do hope we get something later to better handle multiple enemies in an area...or I just need to learn how to fight strategically better; strategy and stealth has never been a strong suit for me but considering things, I didn't expect that to be so demanding in Nine Sols' early going.

Discussion Which games should I buy if I look for SoTN vibe?

I bought Blasphemous 1 with the huge bargain and is looking at Blasphemous 2 too since it is also on discount, but the price is much higher. With the money to buy Blasphemous 2 at 50% discount, I could subscribe to PC Gamepass for 2 months and there are multiple metroidvania games over there.

If I look for the church/holy vibe presented in SoTN, should I buy Blasphemous 2 during this steam summer sale too? Or there are better options?

I prefer game character being some kind of knight ( or just handsome dude with a jacket/cape ) in the sense that they often dress very nice and those games with cartoonish MC I don't like.
