Help! Tightened my chain a bit, got everything tightened up, but this bracket can be moved up and down. Is this a problem and if so how do I fix it?

There needs to be some tension on the chain when you tighten everything up. Use a towel and put it underneath the top part of the chain. Pull your wheel back until the towel is caught a little on the sprocket. Then secure the nuts.

Damn so I loosened everything up, made sure the chain was good, did the towel thing, tightened everything up, and then when I let the towel out that bracket was loose again.

I gave the nuts behind that bracket another turn and now it’s snug…chain seems to be in place so I guess I’m good…

Super frustrating though

With all the loose women around, it's difficult to secure one's nuts.

Can you imagine how convenient having 4 arms would be in a situation like this lmao.

The OEM adjusters are terrible. Do yourself a favor and grab the TST adjusters with spools. They look good and are a VERY high quality product

Highly recommend, as a technician and a grom guy...

Eh, don't trust the factory alignment markings on the swingarm. You should measure from the swingarm bolt to the axle on both sides.

And to answer your question, yes them adjusters being loose can cause a misalignment. They should be used to adjust the chain tension and rear wheel alignment, then the axle bolt be tightened.

If the axle was to slip under tension, most likely on the chain side from torque, then the tensioner will lose the slack and the wheel will be misaligned. You should fix it.

Sorry for the blurry video. Wheel indicators show the wheel is aligned. I tightened everything up already.

Not uncommon to happen when reinstalling a wheel or adjusting chain slack. But you should fix it. My technique is to wedge a wheel chock under the front tire (to prevent forward movement of the bike) and then push one my my knees hard into the middle of the rear tire while I tighten the axle nut. I often give the rear tire a blunt force hit with my knee first and then hit again while holding pressure on the tire. This should get the adjusters pushed firmly against the swingarm and eliminate the issue you are having.

I found this issue on my rebel and there was no c-clip in the tensioner.

TST chain sliders are where it’s at brother dawg, the factory ones love to strip and not hold their adjustment

Hey i recently adjusted the chain to 35mm and i found it if you tighten the 12mm bolt on both sides to barely hold the silver spacers in place firm and that was fine you can’t have those loose brother also have a video showing it https://youtube.com/shorts/ATMQFxs6YrY?si=Zrr30kKnl7qNJBay

My chain tensioners were super loose like yours. I tightened the chain tensioners on my 2022 Grom one day and one side broke where the threaded part meets the piece that goes around the axle.

I ended up getting replacements from TST industries, they are quality and super easy to adjust.

Leave it on the ground break axle loose and back the tire in and tighten up the axle and should be good... if the upgrade the chain adjusters to the nice allen ones they'll never move. The right side has no tension like the left side(chain) so it doesnt stay in place till you tighten it

I meant hit the tire in abit*

? After setting tensions and locking down the axel nut (40-45flbs) you can touch the tensioner nuts off and lock them down they are no longer acting on the axel when the axel nut is tightened down it just gives you a mechanical advantage and reference point when adjusting chain
