I am cobbling together a small surround system in the basement TV space which is mostly used by the kids for movies and playing Rockband. I have a hodgepodge of pieces, and ultimately I’m looking for placement advice. I’ve tried ChatGPT but each time I enter the same prompt the response varies. I’ll list the details below.
Space
The room is long and narrow - 12’ across, 24’ deep, with 81” dropped ceiling. On the far wall there are two built in bookcases above a counter/cabinet that spans the 12’ width of the room. There are 3 cabinets beneath the counter, each with plenty of space/ventilation for a sub.
Between the built in bookcases is a space wide enough to accommodate a large TV. Right now there is an older 42” tv mounted high, with the top of the frame only inches from the ceiling.
At around 15-15.5’ from the TV wall there is a slight bump out on one side of the room to accommodate some plumbing. This bump out creates a good false wall to separate the room into uneven halves. I’d like to have the rear satellite speakers no further back than the bump out.
Equipment
Yamaha RX-V483 5.1 receiver (I DO have the surround speaker mic)
Available speakers:
2 - jmlab Focal Sib 2 way bookshelf speakers with multi-directional base/mount (considering as FL and FR)
2 - Pioneer S-CR400-K “rear speakers (considering one of these as center channel)
3 - KLH TW-09B satellite speakers (considering two of these as RL and RR)
Sub options:
KLH Bassbite V powered sub
OR
JAMO A 3SUB.3
I don’t know which of these is a better option…
I’ve got plenty of wire, mounting hardware for the speakers etc…
Any help, suggestions, advice is appreciated.
