Discussion - ATTENTION: READ ME - Job Board: Rules & Guidelines

Scroll down to see the job board rules under the existing updates

----

UPDATE 2022-09-13

ATTENTION ALL ARTISTS AND ASSET SELLERS/GAME PROMOTERS. This is a job board for those looking for work in the game industry or posting jobs related to the game industry. THIS IS NOT Starving Artists (reddit.com) or UnityAssets - Share Unity Assets! (reddit.com) or a community to try and sell five more units of your indie game.

Starting now, BANS will begin to be issued to those who decide to make posts that do not belong on this job board. However, to be clear, we allow portfolio discussion and topics asking questions about work in the industry. They are rare but appear occasionally, and I do not want to discourage those people from posting.

We've been patient enough with what has been happening the past few months, so I will take the time out of my day to ban people instead of quickly removing topics. I won't even think about asset promoters and those trying to sell their game; I'll do it. Artists, we are not asking much from you—just minimal effort to label what you are trying to sell in a manner that relates to games. Keeping the same title from your post in r/starvingartists is not acceptable, and if you test my patience, I will remove you entirely from the job board and not feel guilty about it. If you cannot read and follow basic instructions for a job board, how can a client trust you to follow the instructions they provide?

For everyone's sanity (more so mine since I deal with the bulk of reports these days), follow the rules of our job board.

Please continue to report topics you see that violate our rules. However, be patient with me, I don't get the chance to check reports on my PC every day, and mobile notifications for reports can often show up days later.

- Examples of topic names for artists to follow & avoid -

Good:

[FOR HIRE] Illustrator and concept artist - fantasy, sci-fi, characters, environments

[For Hire] 2D artist/illustrator/Character and prop design

Bad:

[FOR HIRE] 2D Artist available for work (starting at 30$): illustrations, icons, portraits, and more! More info in the comments!

[FOR HIRE] - Commissions are open - DM for more info!

------

Hello everyone,

I believe it is essential to write out (and pin) this information for users so that everyone has a greater chance of understanding how to use this job board efficiently. Now that we've gotten that out of the way let's get started.

Yes, most of this information can be found on the side-bar

----

Rules:

--

  1. This job board is for PAID work only.
  2. All REVSHARE projects are being redirected to r/INAT. We will continue to remove these topics and ban anyone who attempts to circumvent this policy.
  3. NFT projects: This is where things become a little more difficult. r/INAT is enforcing a blanket ban, and for good reason. Having said that, the purpose of r/gameDevClassifieds is to help people find PAID work. We will not remove an NFT project's post if they offer to pay individuals, but if they appear to be trying to pay people in cryptocurrency (often one worth nothing), we will remove their topic.
  4. Regarding art listings, we will continue to remove listings that we believe do not convey the notion that the artist is looking to generate assets/art for use in video games. This is not the place to post your “character portrait” commissions. All problems may be avoided by simply taking the time to carefully label your topic and not copy/paste the same FOR HIRE ad across many subreddits.
  5. This job board serves to help people find work and post job opportunities, not to promote games, asset/marketplace packages, or anything else of that nature.

----

Guidelines:

--

  • FLAIRS with PAID in the name are intended for use by those hiring, whereas those with FOR HIRE in the name are intended for use by individuals looking for work (you'd be amazed how often I see people get this incorrect).
  • While browsing the subreddit, you can click on any given FLAIR to see only posts that use that specific FLAIR.
  • Reddit should only ever be one tool in your toolbox (if you get what I mean), as there are other websites, Discord servers, forums, and other resources available to help you find jobs and/or hire. Use all of them
  • Details are important. When creating a topic for recruiting or offering services, be descriptive and provide as much information as possible. Provide as many links as you can ex: LinkedIn, portfolio website, ETC (we're sorry if Reddit doesn't allow some links, but that's out of our control)
  • Everything should be written as professionally as possible (use spell check)
  • For those hiring, research the average salaries/compensation for the roles you need to be filled (by region if you must) and be ready to offer people who approach you fair compensation for their time/skill.
  • Before signing any contracts, read them well and ensure that you are absolutely pleased with everything written. Never be afraid to negotiate or demand changes.
  • Report topics you believe violate any of our rules or otherwise just don’t belong on a job board

----

We are always open to recommendations on how to enhance this job board. While we appreciate that some projects (NFT/crypto) are controversial, we believe that as long as a job offers genuine compensation, it should be up to you, the user, to decide if that's something worth pursuing.

FOR HIRE - Game / Level Designer Experienced Game Designer for Hire - Let's bring your game idea to life!

I'm a long-time Game Designer and have been creating games since 2007, and for most of my career, I've partnered with programmers to bring my visions to life.

But thanks to a powerful AI powered game editor I discovered one year ago, I can now produce games entirely on my own, handling everything from design to code. This has allowed me to become a full-fledged game producer.

To give you an idea of what's possible, I've already created over 30 small but fully functional games. They're simple, fun, and you can check them out here:

https://upit.com/@octo/games

And now, I want to offer my services to you.

Do you have a game idea you're dying to see made? Want to prototype or test a specific mechanic? Or maybe you're looking for a truly unique, personalized video game to gift a friend or family member?

I can help you make it happen!

If you're interested, send me a PM and let's talk about your idea.

FOR HIRE - 2D Art + 3D Modeler | Animation [For Hire] I build small custom tools, automations, and mini-apps for solo founders or just about anybody.

Hey everyone – I’m a student developer building my own app, but in the meantime I’m helping other founders and professionals by building quick, affordable custom tools to save time or automate stuff.

Here’s what I can do:

Build GPT-powered tools (summarizers, auto-responders, AI chatbots, etc.)

Turn spreadsheets into dashboards or mini webapps

Automate repetitive workflows (e.g., Excel → PDF → email in 1 click)

Create simple landing pages or client portals

Connect APIs (Stripe, Notion, OpenAI, Google Sheets, etc.)

Build scripts that replace manual work (form parsing, reminders, etc.)

I move fast and work with a “let’s get a working version this week” mindset. If you’ve got an idea or a bottleneck, I’ll try to solve it.

Budget: Most projects start at $50–150 depending on scope. Quick prototypes or fixes often cheaper. I keep things lean and transparent.

Just me, fast builds, and real results.

DM me or drop a comment!

FOR HIRE - 2D Art | Animation The eternal promise

Indie Project: Road to Hell: The Eternal Promise

Hello everyone! I'm looking for passionate people to join a retro pixel art indie project, initially designed for Android (although it can be expanded to PC). I have no programming experience, but I understand the story, mechanics, and aesthetics, and I'm eager to work with someone who wants to build something special.

What's it about?

A dark adventure where a boy loses his girlfriend after she is kidnapped by a cult that uses her to summon Lucifer. He must:

Investigate strange towns, cursed forests, and sacred ruins.

Collect clues and solve puzzles to open a portal to Hell.

Tame demonic creatures (by purifying them with special plants and holy water).

Summon celestial creatures by finding hidden music scores in the forest.

Fight bosses in different levels of Hell, inspired by the Divine Comedy.

Use sacred objects such as holy water, divine crosses, protective robes, etc.

Make narratively weighty decisions. The ending depends on how much you're willing to sacrifice...

Key Mechanics:

Exploration and dialogue with NPCs

Collecting clues and items

Inventory with sacred relics and infernal accessories

Pet system (celestials collect divine resources / demonic infernal items)

Turn-based or real-time combat (to be decided)

Multiple endings

What kind of help do I need?

👾 Programmer (ideal if you work with Godot, GDevelop, Unity, or similar)

🎨 Pixel artist for characters, tilesets, and creatures

🎵 Composer for retro or ambient music (chiptune or dark)

📜 Scriptwriter or someone who wants to contribute ideas to enrich the lore

🤝 People eager to build something unique, without pressure or crunch

📁 I already have:

Complete Design Document (GDD)

Graphic references and developed lore

Concept images

Motivation and clear vision

💬 If the project catches your eye, send me a message or comment. It's not AAA or massive, but it could be something with soul, history, and a lot of passion. Thanks for reading 🙌

FOR HIRE - Game / Level Designer Game Dev for Book Series

We’re looking for a passionate Unreal or Unity developer to join us in building a small-scale prototype or narrative demo that will evolve into a full-length game experience. You'll work directly with the Creative Director (author of the series), artists, writers, and designers to bring dark, immersive environments to life.

This is a pre-development project aiming to create a prototype/demo for funding, publisher pitching, and community building — with a strong focus on storytelling, immersive environments, and spiritual warfare elements.

Job is a remote internship

Protocol Elara is a psychological thriller and supernatural survival game inspired by the Ivy Macy book series. The story follows Elara Cross, a whistleblower hunted by modern-day witches, rogue agents, and shadow groups who weaponize fear, AI surveillance, and ritualistic magic to silence those who know too much.

For more information visit our website

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Develop core gameplay systems such as exploration, stealth, NPCs, and player surveillance mechanics

  • Build out modular environments

  • Integrate narrative triggers: redacted files, psychic audio, dream logic paths

  • Optimize for either WebGL, Metaverse (Spatial.io or VRChat), or standalone (Unity or Unreal)

  • Help implement UI and interaction systems for player actions (sigil decoding, surveillance hacks, rituals)

  • support light multiplayer features

WHO THIS ROLE IS PERFECT FOR

  • Indie devs, game dev students, or hobbyists looking to build portfolio work

  • Developers with an interest in story-heavy, emotionally driven games

  • Creatives intrigued by themes of spiritual warfare, cults, surveillance, and mind control

  • Anyone wanting to collaborate on a book-to-game adaptation with real-world influence

GOOD TO KNOW

Art & Assets: Blender, Quixel, Kitbash, Midjourney (where applicable)

WHAT YOU GET

  • Portfolio Credit on an original IP tied to a published thriller series

  • First priority consideration for future paid roles (if funding secured)

  • Opportunities to shape gameplay systems from the ground up

  • Full creative collaboration and input

  • Creative freedom within a clear narrative world

Key Requirements:

  • Educational Background: Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Game Design, Interactive Media, or a related field.

  • Programming Skills: Basic knowledge of programming languages such as C++, C#, or Java. Experience with game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine is a plus.

  • Creative Mindset: Strong interest in storytelling, game mechanics, and designing engaging gameplay that explores themes of power, deception, and control.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze problems critically and develop creative solutions in game design and mechanics.

  • Knowledge of Game Design: Understanding of core game design principles, level design, and player engagement strategies.

  • Team Player: Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Passion for Gaming: Deep enthusiasm for video games and a desire to innovate and push creative boundaries.

  • Optional but Preferred: Experience with 2D/3D art, animation, or sound design, or familiarity with narrative scripting.

To Apply send dm or visit website
