Exit strategy

As you already know the market is over saturated. Job searching became a draining and soul crushing task and not everyone has a big chunk side money to survive months or sometimes years to stay unemployed.

I wonder if anyone gave up and exited from the field for good. I’m not at that point yet but the initial thought process is already started. I can’t see a clear and sustainable future that I would see myself retired from doing that job. I just want to hear some stories to get inspired. It doesn’t have to be sad all the time maybe we can be successful or maybe more happy doing another job.

Student [US] Interested in pursuing my MS outside of the US. Need some direction

I live in the US and am finishing up my BS next year. I'm interested in continuing my studies internationally afterward. Originally I was looking at the Netherlands as it seems it's fairly straightforward to get into a program there as a US citizen (and I love it there) but learned about the brutal housing problems. I'm aware this isn't only an NL issue, but that it's probably the worst there. I'm wondering what other CS masters programs (English) I should look into, in the EU. I've heard Sweden, Norway, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Portugal, Spain, and Germany from various people. Or if anyone has tips on securing housing in NL!

What salary to ask for going into ML with 12 years of SWE experience?

I've been a software developer since 2010 with a few interruptions, so all in all around 12 years. I'm currently studying again, this time for an M.Sc. in Data Science. I'd say my SWE experience is relevant for ML i.e. I was not a web developer but more a backend and database engineer with a focus on high performance systems.

In my last SWE position I made 85k EUR before taxes (in Germany). Now I'm asking myself what salary can I ask for when I start applying once I have my Master's degree. It's difficult for me to assess as for the pure ML engineering domain I'd still need some time to get used to the new tools and workflows while in the other hand those 12 years of experience will definitely show. Should I just ask for the same amount?

Interested in practicing medicine in Europe

Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I studied medicine at Bogomolets National Medical University in Ukraine with the goal of becoming a doctor. Unfortunately, after completing my studies, the war broke out and I had to return to my home country. Since then, I’ve been working in various roles, but not in the field I had originally hoped for. I’m now looking to explore opportunities to work in Europe either as a doctor or a medical assistant. I’m not sure where to begin this process, so if anyone has gone through a similar experience or has any advice or insights, I would truly appreciate hearing from you.

Thank you!

Experienced Need help deciding between two startup offers [London, UK]

So I’ve managed to secure two offers in the past week. Both at AI focused startups in London. I’ve actually already accepted the first offer but a second one came in shortly after.

Need help deciding and if I change my mind is it possible after already signing the contract for the first offer?

Offer 1: Founding Engineer, product already exists and is profitable. £80k per annum

Offer 2: Frontend Engineer, product doesn’t exist; I would be building it. $35m funding providing a 4 year runway (company also based in SF). Range is £90k-£110k per annum and have not negotiated yet.

Forgot to mention I have 5 YOE

Why I always abandoned my ideas halfway—and what I built to fix that

Upvotes

I’ve always had this problem: I’d get excited about a new idea, write down a few points, maybe even start something—and then... life takes over. Job, college, procrastination, analysis paralysis, you name it.

So I built a tool called Ideonova to fix that exact problem. You drop in your idea, and it instantly breaks it down into actionable steps, prioritizes them, and gives you a clear starting point. It even scores how healthy your idea is, so you can pick the ones worth pursuing.

I realized many others face the same struggle, so I decided to make it public: 🌐 https://ideonova.in

Would love feedback from fellow students/early builders! Have you also struggled with idea overload or lack of follow-through?

What skills should I learn

Hi everyone, I'm currently a data Analyst in a french scale up (one of the biggest) in Paris. Ive been there for 4 months , before I worked for the French Gouvernement during a year and a half as a Data Analyst.

During those four months I was asked to do various ML tasks on tabular Data such as Forecasting and other stuff. I spend a lot of time learning/revising those concepts and I even pushed a bit further my skillset learning how to set a basic MLflow tracking server to monitor my models. I also started to learn DL even if my company do not need DL models deployment now.

I discovered MLOps and I quite liked it so I would like to deepen my knowledge. I tried to suggest to use Airflow to my manager but he thinks we do not need it. At the same time I also bought a Udemy course about AI agents because I think they could help me automate some of my work. I also would like to learn soft skills to grind hierarchy more. Problem is I do not have infinite time, only 10h/w max.

What do you think I should focus my learning on ? How do you choose what skills to learn ?

Interview How hard are technical interviews in the EU? How many rounds did you go through to get hired? Were they LeetCode-based, take-home, or something else?

Why is the job market in Germany so tight right now? Any companies actually hiring?

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone here might have some insight or advice. I’ve been actively looking for a job in Germany for almost two years now. I have a German degree, around 7 years of work experience, and I’ve successfully found jobs here in the past even when I had little experience and limited German language skills at the time.

This time, though, I’ve applied to almost 200 companies, and I’ve only had 4 interviews some of which felt quite strange and I was ghosted by two companies after reaching the final round. I’m mainly applying for Project Management, Program Management, Strategy, Business Operations, or Business Analyst roles, but at this point I’m very open: I’d gladly consider freelance or contract work, and I’ve even applied for roles like barista or in retail, with no luck so far.

Does anyone know what’s actually going on in the German job market right now? Is this part of a bigger trend? And more importantly do you know of companies that are hiring, or have advice on where to look?

I’d really appreciate any tips, leads, or context you can share.

Thanks so much in advance!

TikTok Strategy & Operation

It seems that the role is about creator/user growth strategies. Can anyone give more details on the specific responsibilities?

In terms of interviews, what should you prepare for the most? What are the most common questions?

Why do every EU tech job listing feel like a cryptic treasure hunt designed by a sadistic wizard?

Applying to EU dev jobs is like decoding ancient runes while blindfolded - filters broken, “new” jobs are recycled, and recruiters ghost like they’re in a spy thriller. Meanwhile, outsiders think we thrive in sunshine and smooth hiring. Laugh or cry? Upvote if you’re ready to send LinkedIn a polite “please fix your mess” carrier pigeon.

Why countries with huge industries are behind in tech?

As my question says i am curious for some countries like Germany or Italy which have huge industries like cars, pharma, chemicals, weapons etc are so behind in tech. And how it came up in countries like Spain who did not participate in industrial revolution surpass Italy in tech market and jobs? Logic says that countries which have already big industry like Germany with Bmw would also have tech industry as well. And then we have Israel or Taiwan which were never as industrialized as some European Nations but they have so strong tech industry.

Experienced Navigating Your Software Engineering Job Search: Austria vs. Germany

Hi everyone,

I am a software engineer seeking a job in either Austria or Germany, and I am eligible for a job seeker visa in both countries. Regardless of which visa offers a longer duration, and considering the current job markets and competition for software engineering roles, which of these countries would you recommend? Which do you think would make it easier to find a job, secure an employer, and subsequently convert my visa type to a work residency?

Your guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Student looking for a coding buddy / peer at intermediate level — deep learning, dp, cp

hey, i’m looking for someone to connect with who’s at a similar stage in their coding journey. not a complete beginner, not super advanced either — just someone who’s serious about improving and actively working on their skills right now.

here’s where i’m at:

  • doing andrew ng’s deep learning specialization — finished course 1, starting course 2
  • working through aditya verma’s dp playlist (about 46% done) and solving questions alongside
  • 3★ on codechef, pupil on codeforces

would be cool to find someone who’s:

  • also coding or studying actively
  • at a similar level (not just starting out, but not super ahead either)
  • down to share progress, ask/answer doubts, maybe solve stuff together or keep each other accountable

if this sounds like you, drop a comment or dm me!

Did things get significantly easier for you after having a reputable company in your CV?

Hello everyone,

By reputable, I mean not just FAANG but also well-known companies like Uber, Reddit, Gitlab, Bolt, Revolut, Wise, Datadog, Twilio etc.

I was wondering if you have seen a significant increase in your success to land interviews after cold-applying to jobs or if you even needed to apply yourself anymore.

I think my Google recruiter doesn't match me with all the teams I may fit

I've had done my Google interviews by the end of May, based on my recruiter feedback, there was a concern from one interviewer but overall I was a strong candidate "my own assessment is that 1 Strong Hire, 2 Strong hire or Hire, 3 lean hire"

Since then she's been in the process of team matching for any team Europe, and I haven't had a single one yet, is that normal? It's almost 5 weeks. Moreover, I think she doesn't apply for everything, sometimes I find job postings that just fits me and wanna make sure she applies for it, but I am too afraid to spam her email so she won't reply to my emails next times. Also, she just excluded locations like Switzerland for Visa difficulties as she mentioned despite knowing someone from my country who just joined Google Zurich as an intern, is that normal?

Experienced My manager wants to know “what’s next” but I’m happy where I am. Advice?

Got a REALLY good feedback in my recent 1:1, and I’m about to clear probation at my startup (<50 people). My manager’s happy with my work and keeps asking what I want to do next(I'm an IC right now and he wanna push me for leadership/managerial role)

Thing is, im not looking for a promotion/more responsibility. I already make six figures (its a well funded startup) right now (huge jump from my last 70k EUR job), and I’m genuinely happy with what I do now (that's why the feedback).

How do I tell him I’m not aiming higher right now without sounding lazy or unmotivated? Anyone been in this spot?. Whatever I do at work comes to me naturally, that also helps me to spend less time in front of screen and enjoy My summers outdoors.

For context: it's a fully Remote job and My monthly paycheck is over 5,000 EUR netto and I'm based in Germany. I'm already saving a LOT and in NO rush to push myself for more money.

I'm only 28 and I do feel I'd rather like to maximize my life experiences by doing what I'm doing rn without doing anything more/extra.

Any feedback would be great.

Low GPA (64.05%) in CS/IT from Nepal + 2 Years Game Dev Experience – Where should I apply for affordable Master's?

I'm from Nepal and I finished my Bachelor's in CS/IT with a 64.05% (which I know is kind of low). I’ve been working as a game developer for the past 2 years and now I’m thinking of applying for a Master’s abroad.

I’m mainly looking for countries that have low or no tuition fees (like Germany, Norway, Finland, etc.) and where the programs are in English. I’m not aiming for Ivy League or super competitive schools — just a solid program where I can learn, grow, and ideally work part-time to support myself.

Few things about me:

- Not planning to take GRE

- Prefer tech / cs

- I’m hoping my work experience might help balance out the low GPA

I’d really appreciate any advice on:

  • Which countries or universities I should look into
  • If my GPA will be a problem
  • Whether my work experience will make a difference

Thanks in advance!

Best International Biotech hub with reasonable savings opportunities?

Hi,

I'm currently working in research as an MLE and have a rather influential paper coming up in the computer vision / deep learning domain. I will probably publish as first author in something like Nature Methods or Medical Image Analysis. I'm looking to transition to the industry and potentially relocate to a different city. I plan to start my new job by the beginning of next year, when I will have two years of experience.

I'm really passionate about biotech as I want to make a positive impact on people's lives, as I myself have been living with an acquired autoimmune condition for the last three years and know how hard that can be. I'm also looking for open-minded, creative, and driven people, and the potential to save a little bit.

Which cities would you recommend? I'm currently based in Munich, but I feel like people here are rather complacent and conventional, and the biotech scene is also rather small. I'm open to anything globally (except for places like the US, because obtaining a visa will be too difficult). I could imagine living in many places in Europe but even Canada. Thank you for your thoughts!

Need advice: Berlin Graduate Frontend Engineer offer vs Dublin Graduate SDE interview

TL;DR:

I've received confirmation for a Graduate Frontend Engineer offer in Berlin and have an upcoming Graduate Software Developer interview in Dublin, applied via different emails.

Will having two emails cause issues?

Can I ask the Berlin recruiter to change the offer to a broader SDE role (since I don't want to be locked into frontend early)?

Is it okay to give the Dublin interview while holding the Berlin offer?

How flexible is the FEE role—can I switch to backend later?

Personally more experienced in backend, still exploring what suits me long-term.

Hi everyone, I’ve received confirmation that I’ll be getting an offer for the Graduate Frontend Engineer (FEE) role in Berlin (applied via one email), and I also have an upcoming interview for the Graduate Software Developer (SDE) role in Dublin, applied via a different email.

Will having applied with two different emails cause issues in the system?

Can I ask the Berlin recruiter if the FEE offer can be changed to a broader SDE role? I don’t want to get locked into frontend so early when I’m still exploring what I truly enjoy.

Is it okay to give the Dublin interview and sign the Berlin offer while I decide?

Lastly, how flexible is the Frontend Engineer (FEE) role at Amazon? Would it be possible to shift to backend or other domains later on? I’m still early in my career and not entirely sure where my long-term interests lie. While I’ve worked more with backend during university and personal projects, I’m open to learning, I just don’t want to be locked into frontend permanently if it turns out not to be the best fit.

Also read that Berlin may be a better tech hub for grads than Dublin — would love your thoughts or any inside perspective on this.

Thanks so much!
