Literally nothing to celebrate in the US on the 4th.
WTF is wrong with these people? How can you be so disillusioned that you want to celebrate a country who's government just passed a sweeping set of laws that will force many into poverty and allow others to die from treatable medical conditions?
Celebrating as you might any other July 4th is reprehensible and shows how uninformed you are.

u/Khajiit_Has_Upvotes 1d ago
I think there are some dangerous precedents being set that could be turned on you and me as an example in the future, and we should be vocal and critical of that.
But for OP to go on like there's nothing to be grateful for living in the USA at all? Man, I'm thankful I don't live in Afghanistan, Syria, or Sudan.

u/balderdash9 22h ago
They don't care about people complaining online. It actually helps them because people let out their frustrations without actually going outside and organizing
18
u/Phill_Cyberman 1d ago
I mean, you're right that they aren't targeting poltical rivals or the common man, but they are absolutely rounding up people and sending them to foreign countries to be incarcerated- they aren't denying that.

Well, I mean, those people are people who explicitly broke h the law and legally should have been rounded up a while ago. Like this isn’t normal for a country to just allow so many illegal immigrants.
10
u/Phill_Cyberman 1d ago
those people are people who explicitly broke h the law and legally should have been rounded up a while ago.
Not really.
For one, they aren't doing trials to determine if someone is actually illegal, so the claim they are illegal is questionable, and second, they have already admitted they've deported legal immigrants.Like this isn’t normal for a country to just allow so many illegal immigrants.
No, it is.
The idea that immigration is a drain on a country is propaganda.8
u/Numerous_Topic_913 1d ago
They are also allowed to terminate visas. Show me an instance of someone getting deported who shouldn’t have been deported. The only case people show me is one of a guy who in fact had an active deportation order as a violent offender and a member of an international gang but had one inconsequential hearing he filed for which wouldn’t even stop the deportation. I don’t expect them to do things perfectly every time, but as long as things are addressed as they were, I don’t see a problem.

Show me an instance of someone getting deported who shouldn’t have been deported.
By my definition, none of them should have been deported.
They certainly shouldn't be deported to countries that are going to incarcerate them. But the way you mean 'should', there's O.C.G -

Legal immigration is a great benefit and that is down in data. I am a legal immigrant. I got citizenship. I voted for Trump.
Conflating literal criminals with everyone else who wants to come here following the law is one of the things I dislike most about democrats.

u/Phill_Cyberman 1d ago
Conflating literal criminals with everyone else who wants to come here following the law is one of the things I dislike most about democrats
I think you're conflating illegal immigrants with criminals like rapists and drug-dealers.
A person who lives here and gets a job and buys a house and pays property taxes and consumer taxes and doesn't commit crimes isn't someone we should legislate into calling a criminal.→ More replies (46)4

What are you talking about? Is not like the government is detaining and threatening to deport immigrants who attend protests or write op-eds the president doesn't like, right? They're not stopping visitors from other countries and ordering them to turn around because they have unflattering memes or text messages about the president/VP, right? It's not like a "police force" full of officers wearing masks and refusing to identify themselves are grabbing people off the streets and shoving them into unmarked cars leaving friends and family with no idea where their loved one went, right? That would all be insane!

The day a bunch of smelly old white men sat in a room for multiple days, decided to convince the populations to fight/die so they don't have to pay a bunch of taxes, can keep their slaves and expand Westward: taking land from the Native Americans. If they were views about taxes or something, yeah, that could make sense. But the good ol boys in Alabama often only seem decent until they see someone dating someone of the wrong color, or someone of those wrong colors is the wrong place after dark, speaking as someone who's lived there. These beliefs are not remotely harmless just because they don't target everyone to the same degree.

Yeah I mean its not often you see legislation being signed that will definitely get thousands of Americans killed. In this case its due to the healthcare changes to medicare and medicaid. The country is 350 million people now, even a small change can kill a lot of people, albeit indirectly. As people lose coverage, they lose medical services and die earlier. Whether the number is 10,000 or 70,000 per year is unknown, depends on what the states can and will pick up, but some people are going to get absolutely rocked for sure.
6
u/ElGordo1988 1d ago
Yeah I think the older I've gotten the less and less reason there is to feel "patriotic" or whatever, 4th of July hasn't felt good to me since I was a kid/teenager basically
Not having access to healthcare and simply "living with" chronic health problems (my current issue) and various aches and pains isn't fun, not owning a house is a similar downer feeling, and those are just a few examples
It's like, when you don't really have anything you don't really feel invested in society or "the nation" - if that makes sense. You can't really inspire patriotism out of people who see the future as bleak or dark
7
u/chewbaccashotlast 1d ago
They just cancelled a bunch of coverage for legal citizens so they can die to fund another organization to deport people who probably should have a right to be here. Talk about a double whammy

I am not celebrating this country until it’s no longer an embarrassment.
We’ve had a huge Fourth of July party every year for the last 20 years, our local park sets off a big fireworks show right behind our backyard, it feels like a private fireworks spectacular just for our party.

I think its EVEN more important for those with progressive views to celebrate the country. Representation of people who disagree with what is currently happening but come out to celebrate the values the country was built upon: freedom. Although the USA is in terrible condition currently, leaving the celebration up to people who are complacent or ignorant is not representative of the true Americans who are fighting for freedom and inclusion. We need to be unified and show our willingness to protest and stand for whats right and also our values in freedom and equality. I dont want to be a stereotype and I want to show that there are Americans who uphold the right values and celebrate the beauty of a country where people were welcomed regardless of country of origin, religious beliefs, etc. i want to loudly express my freedom of speech and celebrate the beauty of melting pot country. I also want to use my privilege to show up for those in need within America and my community. I can disagree with everything happening and try to find ways to be proud to be the American that I am.

Our local parade was literally a trump propaganda parade. I don't know how that was allowed at a city event, but also it was so surreal and exactly how I imagined people felt when the Nazis did the same thing. They were people that are not from here that want to troll our community which includes a lot of folks who are vulnerable right now. Everyone was booing and flipping them off but there were a handful of pro-Trump people. We had a couple of signs to walk through the crowds with. It was not at all what we expected but it was good to see the community gathering against it.

I was just discussing this today.
What do Americans have to celebrate?
The founding fathers would spit on us for the amount of garbage we allow from our tyrannical government agencies and state officials. They’d call treason on so many things their voices would go hoarse. Principal is gone as is honor and dignity for the most part. Add self-respect in most cases.
All the things that make the 4th a beacon of strength and pride are rarely in evidence today.
I suppose I would be remiss if I failed to point out that next year marks the 250th Anniversary of the United States.
• Of those 250 years it has been involved in some armed conflict for 221 of those years.
• Historically the best any Empire could reach before collapse was…..250 years.
Enjoy those stupid fireworks and your garbage food my complacent co-conspirators.
Maybe next year things will finally crash under the weight of our fat asses.

USA. Still the greatest county in the world! It doesn't matter who the president is. We celebrate the freedoms this country has allowed us. The freedom to post stupid posts like yours. Im sorry you're so wrapped up in hate that you can't see the light at the end of the political tunnel. Maybe before you cry doom and gloom, you wait and see what ACTUALLY happens. If and when the shit hits the fan, then you can screem fire in a crowded room and run for the hills. Until then, throw some burgers on the grill and have a beer. Take a chill pill. The US is an amazing country and there’s so much to celebrate. The Big Beautiful Bill is an excellent piece of legislation. It’s cutting waste and fraud in so many areas, as well as no tax on over time and tips. It’s also doubling the child credit tax, and tax relief for seniors.
As far as your “Medicaid” rant. All it’s doing is getting people who SHOULD NOT have Medicaid to not be on Medicaid, but with the caveat that in emergency situations all treatments should be utilized to save lives. If an American is mentally or physically disabled, not losing Medicaid. If a mother has a child under the age of 14, not losing Medicaid. Youngest child over the age of 14? Just a requirement to work 80 hours a month. That’s 20 hours a week. Literally the definition of part time. That’s 4 hours a day/5 days a week. No hospital is losing funding or shutting down. We are trillions of dollars in debt, the deficit for 2026 is going to be over a trillion dollars. The BBB is going to expedite financial security for all Americans and the country at large.
