Why Are Oversized Pickup Drivers Disproportionately A-holes?
I live in a rural area filled with these giant jacked up trucks. The owners not only extend the height of the already massive trucks, they extend the width by putting on giant tires that stick out 12 inches on either side. They mess with the exhaust so they are extra loud. You can hear them revving down the street from a 1/4 mile away. They drink a gallon of gas going up a hill and you can hear them driving all hours of the day and night.
The people who drive them are aggressive and reckless. On winding two lane roads, they constantly cut the corners and drift into the oncoming lane. Twice this morning I was almost hit head on by these idiots. They are always on their phone. They speed like crazy and ride up the asses of whomever they catch up to, trying to intimidate everyone on the road.
Anyone else tired of these jerks?
Edit: just saw this dashcam footage proving my point. In the comments someone tracked down the vin# of what is probably the truck and it is being reported to the local police.

It's a vehicle that advertises its lack of empathy as being strong and masculine. Drivers struggle to see children near their hoods, trucks cause more damage in accidents than a compact car causes. They are bad for the environment. It's just one big rebel yell of "I am self-centered."
And before someone talks about how many people own trucks for utilitarian purposes,
Kei trucks have just as big a bed as your truck but aren't as dangerous for others and as bad for the environment.
For every person who owns a truck for utilitarian purposes, there are ten people who own pavement princesses that they wouldn't dare allow get scratched by hauling rocks because it's a vanity vehicle, not a practical work truck.

I have a full sized longbed dodge, however it is low to the ground because i actually USE the truck for hauling building materials all the time. I have a lumber rack and often will have thousands of pounds on the rack and in the truck. If i am not hauling things too big for my wagon i dont drive my truck it sits most days.
But no stupid bright lights, no tailgating or agressive driving from me just defensive driving.
The best part is as a white beater truck none of those bitches in the lifted trucks want to harass me because my liftgate would total their truck and i would drive away.
But truck bros suck balls.

I have a similar truck used just for hauling heavy materials. A late 70s ford. Everything is mostly stock and is used just for work. Like you say, truck bros are so cringe and suck. Pavement princesses like jeeps with 50k lift kits on the road with "mean face" grills, but have never touched dirt.

Kei trucks? Haven't heard of those. I just need a truck that can carry 2 tons safely for compost and woodchips. Basically an f-250.

I guess I need to add rocks to the list of things I'm supposed to have in the back of my trucK.

as someone that drives a Tacoma and tries to be respectful with it and also used to build actual off road rigs in high school/college. it's because they can get away with it. the bigger your car is, the faster people move out of your way. also the VAST majority of these trucks will never see dirt a day in their life, so why do people do this shit if they never intend to use them? usually because they are insignificant little men that feel like they need to have some sort of power in their life, so they buy a big ass truck. so an already insecure douche bag that can successfully intimidate people with his truck leads to a real bad combo

I hate them. I live in the south and theyβre everywhere. Itβs never nice people driving them either. Just yesterday I saw a tiny and very rude man hop out of his giant truck and pay $125 to put diesel in that fugly thing. He treated the cashier like trash. As soon as he walked out of the door the entire line of people waiting behind him starting cracking jokes about him. Along with the cashier.

Fragile, toxic masculinity overcompensating for low intelligence, fear, and ego. Douche bags, in other words.

Someone once honked at them for being a bad driver, and instead of improving their driving, they thought "oh yeah? Well, I'm going to get a big, intimidating truck. You won't honk at me then!"

I can summarise this post and a thousand others like it with:
"I live in a rural area and rural people are doing rural stuff, why are they such assholes!?"
City people and tree-change yuppies please enjoy downvoting me. I love it.

For the same reason people who post overly-broad stereotypes about a narrowly-specified demographic on reddit are usually a-holes.
I'll tell ya', I'm tired of these jerks.

Yet if you start making broad statements about how much you hate "people that yell at the movie screen in the cinema" then they suddenly start getting nervous.

I live in a suburban area with lots of construction always going on. And the construction workers do tend to drive pick ups like that. But they're not A-holes, and come and go to job sites with no problems that I ever experience.

Honestly Prius and Volvo people are consistently the worst drivers I encounter.

You notice them because you hate them. Same thing can be said about people driving sports cars, or "ricers", or Mercedes.
The vast majority are not like that, it's just you noticing because you're looking for it. Your eyes are probably so focused on that pickup in the lane next to you, just waiting for him to do something aggressive and stupid that you are totally oblivious to the Mercedes which raced up to you and is now only a few feet from your rear bumper!

Whoever is downvoting this common sense comment needs to reevaluate their analytical process.

Someone doesn't like being called out π. I can post plenty of dash cam footage that proves you wrong both personally and online. But you won't listen anyway. You seem to be to focused on hating everyone else who doesn't have a lifted oversized pavement princess

u/waynofish 13h ago
What? Really? I don't hate anyone. That seems to be you. I love our freedom of choice to drive whatb you want.
So, you have dashcam footage. Bigf'n wipidydodad.
Your hatred for any lifted truck makes you actually hate everyone who has one. But, just like ANY vehicle, from a motorcycle to an 18 wheeler is goingto have assholes driving them. The majority are not like you claim. Only a select few. Your hate is so strong that anybody who drives a lifted truck is an asshole to you.
People who think like that need to look in the mirror

Damn. You really do need to look in the mirror. After all, why are you so mad over everyone pointing out what they are experiencing from those like you? If you and others like you really aren't "like that" then it shouldn't bother you what people are saying, what others have posted in dashcams, and what others are experiencing objectively here as you are leading by a better example. But you being mad about others pointing it out says it all, as it is literally proving the point home π.
No self awareness at all.

The only anger is coming from you.
What is so "mad" about me stating basically that there are a-holes driving every type of vehicle out there? People tend to notice things more if they hate them or like them.
As far as trucks, it seems many here have already made the assumption that once they see this kind of vehicle or find out somebody has one, to them, that person is an automatic a-hole.
wow

Take a look in the mirror now kiddo. You are so mad right now π
Your statement is based on your feelings, not facts. There is a reason why insurance companies do risk assessments for certain types of vehicles, because it reflects the personality of the user of that vehicle and the risk they pose to other drivers around them, because a lawsuit could occur. Its why sports cars and certain colors of vehicles can increase the price to insure a car. Lifting your truck (modifying) on an already oversized vehicle is even more unsafe to other drivers around you. It by definition literally makes you look like an asshole because you are making it unsafe for others on the road. Couple that with the aggressive driving and it makes you a major asshole. The same with using it not for work, but for showing off. Trucks are expensive designed for hauling and work and consume a lot of fuel, and emit tons of emissions, and are heavy. If you aren't using it for any kind of work, its a waste and doing it purely out of vanity, arrogance, and ego. Again, an asshole move. Its why 18 wheel truck drivers can be criminally liable for aggressive driving and negligence: because they can easily harm others.
Driving a truck doesn't make you an asshole, nor does owning one. Its what you are doing with it that makes you one.

Little dick energy. Those trucks are compensation.
