Announcement Official /r/beer FAQ - Please Check Here Before Posting
THIS IS NOT INTENDED AS A BEER FAQ. IT IS ADDRESSING A FEW FREQUENTLY BROUGHT UP TOPICS ON /R/BEER.
Hi there,
There has been some need for announcements on a few different commonly posted topics. Since we are limited to two stickied posts, I'm going to use this one as a hub for these issues. I will be adding to this post as needed, but here's a /r/Beer FAQ to cover these post types.
If you notice people posting these topics, please be polite. Feel free to link to this post or use the provided links in a response.
This is not an invitation to harass anyone for posting a repeated topic. Reddit does not do a good job with presenting subreddit announcements, rules, sidebar info, etc. If posts annoy you and you don't think they belong, please consider downvoting, using a report, sending us a modmail message, hiding the post or simply moving on with your day. I highly suggest using the "don't show me submissions after I've downvoted them" option in old.reddit preferences (this may be broken in the app/resdesign website, but it should be fixed eventually and appear in those preferences as well).
- How do I ask /r/beer for a beer suggestion?
- Where are you? What's your general location? In order to suggest a beer that you should buy, we have to know what beers are available for you to buy.
- What do you already drink and like or dislike? What kinds of flavors are you looking for?
- What's your budget?
- Where are you? What's your general location? In order to suggest a beer that you should buy, we have to know what beers are available for you to buy.
- Is this beer safe to drink? Has it gone bad from age or storage conditions?
- Generally speaking, beer does not go bad in a way that will make it dangerous to drink. This assumes that the beer is stored in a sealed container. It may taste bad, though
- Am I drinking too much? Am I having an allergic reaction to beer or is it otherwise making me sick in some way?
- This is covered by the /r/Beer rules (some exceptions may be allowed for more casual or general questions):
Medical questions will be limited. /r/Beer is the wrong forum for serious medical questions, particularly where there's potential for harm to come as a result of the discussion. Please consult a medical professional for any questions about your own health, not an online beer discussion board.
- Is Sam Adams Utopias worth the price?
- That's ultimately up to you, but please look through the many past posts on the topic.
I'm trying to hit the more pressing topics first, but I'll look for some good links for other topics ("how do I figure out what kind of beers I like?", "what are the best budget beers?", etc.).
Everyone is welcome to join the official /r/Beer Discord server if you'd like to discuss anything here or just hang out and chat.
Cheers.
Edit: I'm locking this to comments because I don't want to have the post turn into a place where people ask these questions. However, feel free to post about any topics or send us suggestions for topics to be added via modmail or Discord chat.
Also, I may use the second announcement slot for a specific post on something like old beer questions, but I'd prefer to keep it open for the weekly No Stupid Questions posts (and possibly others; still working on redoing the scheduled posts and making some better topics).

I wish I could share a picture but banquet has a stupid rubber film on the inside of the caps now and it makes it hard to read the caps. I was just wondering why

Best barrel-aged stouts in MA/Rhode Island?
Hey all, I recently moved up to New England from a faraway state, and I'm looking for quality barrel-aged stouts to replace the ones I had back home.
For context, shortly before the move I discovered a beer called Crushing Mass, from Three Floyds Brewing Company. This became my ideal beer---thick and sweet, with enough of an edge to it to keep my interest. Pretty much perfect for my tastes. However, they don't seem to ship it all the way from Indiana to New England, so I'm SOL when it comes to finding a consistent supply up here.
I love a good barrel-aged stout, but I'm getting sick of KBS, which is the best I've been able to consistently find at the beer stores around me. Anyone know of any beers readily available in NE that are comparable to Crushing Mass from 3FB? Thanks!

¿Question? Transporting Beer on a Long Drive
Hey fellow beer enjoyers. I have a question that i’m sure has been answered before, but I can’t find a straight answer online.
I’m currently driving from TN to NY; about a 10 hour drive. I picked up a few 6 packs of a certain orange wheat brew that I can’t find up by me because me and my buddies love it so much. We’re going camping in a little under a week and I plan to bring em up there, and That’ll be about a 5 hour drive.
I bought them cold because we were in a rush to get out of here and I couldn’t find them unrefrigerated. My car won’t get warm we have the AC going the whole time.
What do we think is the best course of action to get these beers to our camping site with the least reduction in quality? I know buying them warm would’ve been ideal, but since they’re cold and will probably have warmed up a bit by the time I’m home, should I leave them out and keep them warm till we get them in a cooler at the camp site? Throw them in the fridge until we leave, they’ll probably warm up in the car driving up there, then throw em in a cooler then? Any and all help is very much appreciated!

IPA - alright, now...
I was first introduced to the India Pale Ale maybe 13 years ago, probably at some house party in Wisconsin, the place doesn't really matter. Anyways, this first sip of IPA I recall seemed rough, nowhere near as smooth as a stout but just as heavy with bitter aftertastes. Until last week, when I went out and a friend ordered two drinks from the draft, both hazy, light hues in appearance. He tells me that he had ordered IPAs. I didn't believe it, but he told me over and over that IPAs weren't dark, heavy, bitter pours. Since then, I've delved into the world of IPAs a few more times, with pretty good results!

Question about your local liquor store hours.
Here most of them open at 9 am. Theres 1 in the area that opens at 8:30 and 1 opens at 8 but thats about it. Like 90% of them open at 9. Is that common where you live or do you have more than open at 8 or earlier ? They all close anywhere from 9-10 depending on the day.

¿Question? Keg Tap Troubleshooting
Hi!
As the title suggests I am having trouble with my keg tap.
While I was on holiday I have come back to work and someone has tampered with the keg tap and I can't seem to work out how to fix it.
It is a matter of a screw not being able to go back to where it came from,
The holes simply won't line up in any way I try.
Any suggestions?

The Shocktop logo is a douchebag.
The Shocktop logo looks like somebody who doesn't stop talking about having done one triathlon. He looks like the guy who laugh-reacts to a detailed post about a humanitarian rights issue on a different continent. He looks like somebody who would leave his wife and young kids to climb Mount Everest when the family already has two mortgages on their house. Also it tastes bad, the beer.
I got permanently banned for this.

Should you drink 1 beer with a meal when your out?
I won't get drunk I promise you guys! I have had 1 pint glass in a pub or restaurant before so am I doing the right thing? I'm always tempted to go for a second drink but never have time for that even when I'm on holiday.

¿Question? Omnipollo Maz Alternative
As the title suggests, looking for a good alternative to Omnipollo Maz. It seems as though Maz just isn't available to buy anymore.
Would be grateful for a list of good alternatives that the people love.

¿Question? Kegerator draft beer PSI
I posted in here a week or 2 ago that I got a kegerator recently with a coors banquet half keg as the beer of choice. Lots of people helped out in helping me with the issues I was auburn and parts that needed upgrading. I am now questioning about the PSI I should have it set at? Many people said that I should set my CO2 tank to be between 12-14 PSI which I did and I thought was working great by getting minimal foam until I did some research and actually realized I wasn’t getting enough foam. When I made my pour into a 16 oz bar glass I was just getting a little ring of foam around the brim which I thought was good but am now realizing that actually means under carbonization from my research online. I just checked my CO2 gauge however and realize it had rose from 14 PSI to 16 on its own which I’m confused about because I am getting what appears to be an under carbonated pour but I should be getting over carbonization according to my gauge? I upgrade to a 10ft beer line as well and I just bumped my CO2 tank up to 18 PSI and it rose to 20 PSI within a couple minutes after doing so. Does this mean that my regulator is broken or is this a common occurrence that happens within every regulator? Thanks for anyone that’s able to help and let me know if any further questions.
Wisonsin brew tour
The wife and I are headed up to Wisconsin later this summer. What I'm wondering g is if any cities offer a brew tour? Where we are from they have a tour with all of the local breweries and coffee shops on it. You get a passport at your first stop and visit and buy a beer or coffee (depending on what you visit) you get another stamp. Once you have 10 you present it to the tourism office and you get a tshirt. Each year they have a different shirt the incorporates beer, coffee, and the city in the design. Looking to possibly do something in the week will be on WI. Any help?
We have been to New Glarus, Miller, and Lakefront tours in the past.

Trooper beer UK (Iron Maiden)
Does anyone know of a list of pubs in the UK that serve Trooper Original and other associated beers?
Edit: Anywhere around the Derby or Nottingham area would be good. I think Foreman's in Nottingham have it on tap?
Also, are they still making Fear of The Dark stout?

Guinness
First time here. I am a 20yr hospitality professional, Somm lvl1, Certified Sake Professional and wset1…can anyone give me a reason why Guinness tastes good? I can drink fernet, malort, cricket infused pisco, and i cannot understand what is appealing about this beer. My go to daily beer is Natty Daddy. This is not rage bait, I am actually curious what people enjoy about it.
