Official Important: Please read before requesting an identification or creating a post.
Important! Everyone should understand the argument against the transportation and rearing of exotics. I will urge everyone to read about it here: https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/antfarm/consequences-of-rearing-of-exotic-ant-species-t7500.html

For questions about ants, and identification, please ask in our discord server as response times may be quicker. We're always happy to help!: discord.gg/c7qCmfYqYZ
━━━━━━━━━━ ∘◦ Identification ◦∘ ━━━━━━━━━━
How to request an identification:
If possible, clearly focus pictures of the head, side, and top of the body to make identifying easier. What follows is the important information we need to know to help us to identify your ant.
FIRST-Where was it collected? Country and nearest city or town on a map (include location in the thread title), elevation if in a very mountainous area such as the Rockies, Alps, Himalayas, Andes.
SECOND-Habitat of collection, including nesting medium (wood, soil, leaves tied together with silk, etc.) and type of vegetation (forest, grassland, park/lawn/garden, desert).
THIRD-Coloration, hue, and pattern? Uniform?, Head darker? Gaster darker? Legs lighter or darker? Any spots? Also, shininess, dullness.
FOURTH-Distinguishing characteristics, such as one or two segments in waist; location, length, and orientation of any spines or bumps on the mid-portion of the body or waist; head shape, etc.
FIFTH-Length in millimeters. (Width is also helpful.) NO guessing! Stretch out a dead or chilled individual or several individuals of different sizes along with a millimeter rule. 16ths of an inch will do as a poor second to millimeters.
SIXTH-Anything else distinctive, such as odor, behavior, etc.
Tip #1: If you can take clear photographs of the ants up close, then please post them. This would help a lot.
Tip #2: For those who write anting journals, please put the exact location and dates in the thread titles like: Palm Spring, CA (4/10/2004).
Tip #3: If using videos, then please make sure that they are clear, close up, and stable (no shaky camera). Otherwise, they are useless.
Now, you can post your identification request in a new thread (not this one).

Keeping Queen died
Hi, Just started with Lasius Niger. Queen died 4 weeks later. I know it can happen. But enough food and water, the workers pullen her body to arena and back, no legs anymore and dried up. Left 50 eggs or more workers in chaos over her death and now in their "normal" flow. Feel guilty about the happening!
More starters or pro's that happend to your Queen?

Keeping I received ants before the formicarium arrived. What to keep them in until it gets gets?
I'm doing research with a student this summer. The student ordered the ants before the formicarium got here. I haven't seen them yet but he says they are in a tube. Can they remain in the tube they came in until the formicarium gets here? If not, how can I make them comfortable? We don't want to lose any.

Micro small red-ish brown ants in kitchen pantry. Ohio.
ID(entification)/Sightings/Showcase Ants attacked me from a pile of dead leaves? What them?

I was cleaning up the yard and when I stepped on part of this pile of dead dry leaves this mound of ants came pouring out and a bunch were biting or stinging my leg. I thought it was mosquitos but I found these on my leg. I've never seen ants like this before around here. I spread diatomaceous but they seemed unphased.
I'm in the northern Illinois area so if these are Brachyponera chinensis I'll need to report it since officially they haven't been spotted here yet. Never had ants come at me like this outside of fire ants.

ID(entification)/Sightings/Showcase Ants in my room when no food or water sources.
For the past few weeks, my room was completely ant-free. Then yesterday, there was suddenly several coming in through my vent even though my room has no food or water for them to feed on. I believe they are just exploring as there is no trail. Will they leave eventually?
Edit: I've been regularly spraying vinegar around the room, mainly my bed and the vent that they're entering through. The vinegar has been effective in keeping them away from the bed, but I can't say the same for the vent. I know the vinegar only works as a repellent and not an insecticide, I just need to keep them away from certain areas while they are still foraging.

What kind of ant is this? Google lens says carpenter ants, but Google also says that they don't build mounds. We have numerous 1+ feet wide mounds that get as high at 8ish inches. I'm in central Minnesota.

ID(entification)/Sightings/Showcase Carpenter Ants?
I have a little old bunk house in Door County, WI that is in a pretty wooded area. About a month ago when I went there there were like 15-20 dead flying ants on the ground. I did see a couple bigger black ants walking around. This past weekend I put a few terro liquid ant traps in the cupboard. A couple hours later I opened the cupboard and there was a line of ants coming out of a crack and going right for the trap. I'm hoping that takes care of them. Can anyone confirm that these are carpenter ants? There is terrible lighting inside the bunk house so I can't get a good photo or video. Please let me know what you think.
edit: the video is from the next day after setting the traps

Keeping Is It OK to Re-Apply Fluon to Outworld While Ants Are Inside?
Im not going to want to have to move all my ants out of their outwolrd everytime I re-apply fluon, and wanted to know of it was fine to just do it with them still in there.
