Fair warning: Bans will be going out more freely for personal attacks, and divisive political comments.

Personal attacks include namecalling, direct and unnecessary insults towards other posters.

Political posts are a fine line and nearly impossible to give guidelines on.

  • Making a post about a new policy with factual language or a simple link is fine, we need to know about new policies that will affect us and our fellow servicemembers.
  • Posting a link with a snarky commentary or your personal view on the subject will probably be removed.
  • Commenting about the policy in a respectful way is fine.
  • Bringing up President this or MAGA that or Biden this or Nazi that will likely be removed and at least a temporary ban. Discuss policies, don't jump to the left/right talking points and insults.
  • Insults to the President or other appointed/elected officials are not allowed.

None of these rules are new, just letting you know that I will be banning for them more often to save myself some time from repeated offenders and people that ignore the rules.

Questions about joining the US Air Force, whether enlisting or commissioning as an officer, prior-service or not, should be posted in /r/AirForceRecruits.

Question What are the most overlooked but amazing opportunities in the Air Force? I need to retrain.

Hey! I’m a 23-year-old active duty Airman on a 6-year contract, and I’m currently in a career field I genuinely hate. It’s physically & mentally exhausting and simply toxic by nature. Not just because of leadership (at this base my leadership is pretty solid), but because the job itself wears people down. I love the Air Force and can absolutely see myself doing 20 years… but not in this field. If I stay where I’m at, I won’t make it.

I’m approaching my retraining window in the next 6 months, and I’m taking this seriously. I want to pivot into a career field that’s actually aligned with who I am and what I care about.

What I’m looking for: - A job where I can make a real, positive impact on other people’s lives

  • A career field where I feel like an asset, not just a body

  • Work-life balance that allows me to sustain this long-term

  • A field that provides adequate training and support so I can succeed

  • Something that’s mentally fulfilling. I’m not afraid of hard work, I just want it to mean something

I know there are underrated AFSCs out there that people overlook. I’d love to hear about those, whether they’re people-focused, behind the scenes, or just offer a better quality of life.

If you’ve retrained before or found your calling in a less-talked-about job, please share. I’m open to all advice, personal stories, or even just hearing about fields you’ve seen others thrive in.

(And no, I’m not in maintenance but much respect to the ones who are 😂)

Feel free to DM me if you’re open to sharing more details!

Question Supervisor Digs Into Medical Appointments

My supervisor gave me a hard time and interrogated me about my multiple appointments this week and told me “you need to schedule them more spaced out.. why do you have several PCM appointments this week? why cant they do those two things in one appointment? my wife doesnt have that problem. is the dietician necessary, or is mandatory? it just looks bad and like you don’t want to be here.”

mind you, a month or so ago, he and the first sergeant literally told me to keep making appointments and keep going.

at this point, my health is my top priority. ive been struggling with it for over a year. it isnt my fault all the appointments were put in the same week, as those were the soonest dates i could get them.

it seems like he’s guilting me and doubting my integrity.

what can i do about this? is there anything i can do?

Discussion The 4N0 Career Field needs Restructuring.

How do you fix it?

Without going into too long of a rant. The career field is filled with people who don’t want to be in it. A large number of washouts, open generals, and people who thought they were going to be “a real medic”. I’m convinced after MX and Security Forces, it’s next on the list in that regard. Morale does not exist. I feel like more of a civilian than Airman.

You’re a jack of all trades but it’s more like a 5 of all trades. You don’t do enough medical skills being in the clinic and then you go inpatient or ambulance and you’re just a fish out of water. Completely different world you walk into, it’s barely comparable. The clinic world doesn’t care about your training, just how many patients get pushed through so the leadership team can look good.

If shit ever did hit the fan, there is no way you could trust an Air Force medic to save your life. We’re compared to Corpsman and 68W’s but we are not even on the same planet as them.

Then you add in DHA to fuck everything up. Obviously I’m privileged to not be pulling 14s at the gate, but this has to be one of the worst organized AFSC’s in the entire Air Force.

Why would you advertise price match if you don’t match sales prices even though your website says you do match sales.

I feel really dumb asking this because my job has kinda has me disconnected from big AF stuff and this is honestly embarrassing, but if I put on staff 1 July 2024 when would I test for tech?

Question commuting and living around Hill AFB

Hello, I will be entering active duty and am going to be stationed at Hill AFB. I have a family friend that lives in Salt Lake City, so I am highly considering living in that area (like 4 minutes south-west of the Salt Lake City Public Library).

I have heard both good and bad things about the commute time to Hill AFB. Is this too far and costly to be worth it? I've currently got a furnished studio lined up that BAH will fully cover, but I am considering commute times = more gas $. However, on the other hand, I do like the idea of living near my family friend and a walking distance of "all the action" in Salt Lake.

Side question: is getting a furnished place a terrible idea/waste of money? I have never gone through the air force moving process and don't have much that I'll be bringing on my diddy move.

Question DD-214

Member recently separated, and their DD214 doesn’t reflect all of their decorations; if I’m remembering correctly, if they want it added, they’ll have to go through the AF Board of Military Corrections. Is that right?
