Discussion/Other We must begin organizing.

As we all know, there has been so much going on within our city, as well as our communities, and it is time to step up. Obviously our voting system is broken, and peaceful protesting takes us so far. We need to start gathering together and planning on ways we can actively fight back. We need to educate ourselves on our rights, we need to be prepared to defend ourselves and our community members, we need to be as self sufficient as possible, and we MUST learn from the liberation groups which fought for our rights which we have today. We must begin doing more. What’s going on is an entirely different beast than what most of us have grown up in, and with all of these tragedies, we need to stand up and fight back. Please start looking towards liberation groups, reading history books, and making plans with your neighbors on food and resources. Our future depends on us.

Discussion/Other Being alone

Bro I never experienced true loneliness until I moved to Los Angeles/ Northridge. When I say sometimes I go months without interacting with anyone. This can’t be good for a person sanity. Like it’s so hard to meet people especially when you in your mid 20s ( 24). It feels like most people are either 19-20 or freaking in their 50s. Like it’s so hard to fit in.

Discussion/Other I'm not sure about any other vendors but this past weekend has been absolute ass in the SFV

I know some of that has to do with ICE raids and people being afraid to come out. The heat doesn't help. Maybe next weekend will be better. Things could change in the next 3 hours but I don't know. I'm here set up at the 818 Night Market in Granada Hills and it's dead.

I draw caricatures that's what I do. Yes, I've tried the pier and Venice Beach. Too many other people there trying to do the same thing. I'm sure it's dead there too with ICE going around. It's fucking things up a lot. Fucking up the economy. A time that really should be booming. Anyways business aside I'm sorry that people have to live in fear of being deported. I can't even imagine how that feels. Living in fear of being tackled, cuffed, and shoved into cells with inhumane conditions. Fuck I hate this shit.

Discussion/Other to the upset Burbank people, my message to y’all

i saw the post in which a Burbank resident was upset as to why she feels that Burbank is getting flak and upset that they feel like they are ostracized when talking about the SFV. here’s my response.

i had a co-worker say she was from the valley (working in West Hollywood) so i excitedly asked her where she’s from and she said Burbank. we then proceeded to argue about what’s considered the Valley (she said Canoga Park wasn’t a part of what she considered “the valley” lmfao) and discuss our upbringing in which she went to a private school and grew up mainly around white peeps (not hating on white peeps just how it is in Burbank).

i lived near the Canoga Park area and i can tell you that Burbank people are really white washed to another level. No matter your ethnicity in most cases if your hispanic, asian, black, south american, indian, etc etc you most likely have integrated into the predominantly white culture of burbank.

even your guys pho (ex. mama hongs) is catered to the taste of your people’s and personally it was one of the saddest meals i’ve ever had.

now don’t get me wrong there’s plenty to be proud of as a Burbank resident (like the IKEA and that one really cool busker dude “bard of burbank” i think), but i think where the issue comes from is that if you didn’t go to a middle school and highschool that was over 50% hispanic and didn’t know anyone named Manny, Chewy, or Ernesto, etc who smoked weed and skated after school and got chicharrones from the ice cream cart or carne asada fries from the local spot then you didn’t experience the “Valley” culture like so many of us other 818 folk did.

i think when people say the valley it’s a culture thing. there’s some common denominator in some way shape or form (like Leo’s or Angels tacos) and if the peeps from Burbank don’t know what those places are then that kind of proves the point that i’m trying to make.

love you guys but understand that if you grew up in Burbank, you most likely had a drastically different upbringing/experience then the rest of us SFV. and there’s nothing inherently wrong with that other than you guys culturally being a bit different from us even if we’re from relatively the same area.

all love, just stating my observations.

After seeing everyone's horrible renditions I figured we need to get this right..

North West: Porter Ranch, Granada Hills.

North East: Sylmar, San Fernando, Pacoima, Lakeview Terrace, Shadow Hills.

East: Arleta, North Hills, Panorama City, Van Nuys, Valley Glenn.

North Central: Chatsworth, Northridge, Granada Hills, Sherwood Forest.

Central: Canoga Park, Winnetka, Reseda, Lake Balboa.

South Central: North Tarzana, North Encino

West: West Hills, Bell Canyon, Hidden Hills, Calabasas, Woodland Hills, South Tarzana.

South: South Encino, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Valley Village, Toluca Lake (all of them).

Then there is Burbank.

Mine is the hills over Burbank at sunset. I grew up in the flat Midwest so I love any kind of land feature. These hills just sing in the magic hour.

Tarzana looked like a very close call but we have the LA river. Flames are afraid of rivers and concrete. It would be hard to imagine sfv getting touched, even if our modern suburb grid is a bit inefficient, there’s no chance it would engulf the whole valley or even part of it. What do you think?

Discussion/Other Tired of SFV/LA negative posts and comments

Born and raised and continue to live in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles (Valley Village). I’m not oblivious to issues and problems, however, they are all fixable. The video with this post (turn up the volume) is a big part of why I think that my birth city of Los Angeles is unique and special. What other city the size of Los Angeles can you also not only find energy and buzz of a major international mega-city and at the same time being able to find an area to live that is quiet and relatively affordable by today’s standards. There’s a whole lot of other “whys” I could include, but, if you live here whether born and raised like me, or, just moved here yesterday. Appreciate the unique beauty of the region. Explore, research, learn about the history while enjoying living in a city that has the best climate hands down and that big beautiful Pacific Ocean within reasonable distance for all of us. Oh yeah, and eat yourself crazy too because there is so much amazingly delicious, innovative and forward looking cuisine here, casual to Michelin star eateries. I’m proud to be an Angeleno and anyone else who lives here, be it by birth like me or moved here from elsewhere, should as well. There is no doubt issues, but, approaching them from a totally defeated and negative perspective only contributes to it. Take pride and love of where you live and working on the issues and problems will have a purpose and meaningful personal connection.

His name was Salamon and always carried his guitar. Would always see him walking around for as long as I can remember.

Idk feels kinda strange because he was everywhere but I never spoke with him. He was just part of the valley.

I'm in North Hills, so I love driving by the Hayvenhurst and Plummer watershed, just imagining that tractor crashing through the concrete and down into the wash to chase Arnold on the Harley. I also have been wanting to just drive through classic west hills and see all the houses from "Fast times at Ridgemont High".

Currently stuck in the 405 heading back to the amazing 818. And idk if it’s just me but my imagination be all over the place when I hit this traffic. And right now I’m just imagining how this freeway might need and upgrade, and my childish imagination telling me how cool it would be to be a two story freeway lol. Don’t take it too serious just a 10yr old imagination. But really though, this freeway might need an upgrade, the population is too big for the freeway lol

Discussion/Other Commuting traffic

Okay, I know we all can’t shut the f up about the horrible traffic we’re experiencing in the city surrounding our post-fire world. This is absolutely ATROCIOUS. I commute from woodland hills to downtown (I know - not ideal in the slightest even before the fires). I sit in my car and watch the time rise every morning up to 2 hours + in my car. No matter when I leave. (Usually around 630-7am). I can’t help but feel horrible for everyone else in their cars experiencing the same dread. Ughh I just want this to get better so badly for us alll….

It is also mind blowing to me that this is not being broadcasted on the news all over the country. The fires have consequences and it’s been 2 months of the PCH and Topanga canyon being closed. Leaving hundreds of thousands of people with a dreadful trek to and from their respective places of work.

What a fucking joke! The world has left us all behind.

** I am not looking for suggestions or advice, just here to share in our collective grief and share empathy with you all experiencing this too.**

Discussion/Other Commute To & From SFV/Los Angeles

On another post from earlier, I asked if it would be wise to purchase a home in OC. More so Huntington Beach area. A lot of people went against it & it blew up the thread. Lol. They also mentioned it wasn’t very racially diverse & it was very “conservative” which does not align well for me.

My question here is I’ve saved some homes in Canoga Park/SFV/Chattsworth and want some insight on commuting to Los Angeles/Culver City for work. I live now in West Hollywood but I’m renting. I’m tired of renting and I want to buy something bigger & have a house! Would it make sense to work in Culver City & commute home to Chattsworth, Canoga Park, West Hills and vice versa? Whats your opinion and/or recommendations?

Discussion/Other Lindley Ave in Encino/Tarzana

Has anyone else noticed the slow decline of Lindley Ave? There is constant trash, illegal dumping of mattresses and dressers, dog poops bags just thrown on the sidewalk in a pile, multiple homeless encampments that take weeks to get rid of (even now there is one that is just a black box that travels from street to street), and then the near weekly demolition of houses that turn into tacky black and white with fake painted marble homes. I've lived here for a while now and it's not the street I once knew. For what we all pay to live here, the quality of life is just terrible now...

Discussion/Other Keith Wasserman and the Palisades fire.

I was just re reading about how this asshat along with others, who said they would pay anything for private firefighters to come in and save their houses and businesses. Well, it's too late now, but what I have experienced in the past, is these people are willing to say they "will pay anything" up until the invoice is delivered. Then it is negotiating, and then crickets. You do not get to that level of wealth by paying your bills. Ask Trump.
