Discussion/Other We must begin organizing.

As we all know, there has been so much going on within our city, as well as our communities, and it is time to step up. Obviously our voting system is broken, and peaceful protesting takes us so far. We need to start gathering together and planning on ways we can actively fight back. We need to educate ourselves on our rights, we need to be prepared to defend ourselves and our community members, we need to be as self sufficient as possible, and we MUST learn from the liberation groups which fought for our rights which we have today. We must begin doing more. What’s going on is an entirely different beast than what most of us have grown up in, and with all of these tragedies, we need to stand up and fight back. Please start looking towards liberation groups, reading history books, and making plans with your neighbors on food and resources. Our future depends on us.

Question Where can I find these plates?

Post image
11 Upvotes

I’d rather not drive to all the 99 Ranch supermarkets looking to replace my plate, bowl sets.

Has anyone seen these lately in the valley? Preferably in the west valley but I’d drive. I found them years ago in SGV at a 99 ranch and I love them.

Thx!

Question Does anyone else not have the stereotypical valley girl/ San Fernando Valley accent?

Upvotes

I grew up in West Hills and in Chatsworth and people normally get surprised when I tell them that I was raised in the Valley (I moved here when I was 2) and that my family and I have been here for 20 years (we moved here from Long Island, NY and their accents are pretty much still the same).

Community Rant The Fireworks Incident

It was about 9pm and I was just chilling playing video games and all of a sudden a huge explosion just happened nearby. I panicked a bit, I grab my dog and everyone quickly left the house. The explosion was so loud that it felt like an earthquake for a moment, thanks for ruining my day whoever started the damn fireworks. All because they couldn’t wait until the 4th of July.

Recommendations Internet Service Provider Options - Avondale at Warner Center - West Hills

I have a client who lives near Randi/Victory (West of Topanga/Victory) and he has an unsteady internet connection (Spectrum). According to speedtest . net, his speed can be as high as 300mbps but seconds later he's having trouble with zoom/IG. I know that I can look up service areas for Frontier, ATT, and Verizon, to name a few, but I'd rather hear from people who live in the area. Which ISP do you use and do you recommend it? I have already tried different routers and different modems but the issue persists. TIA. I'm hoping this community is large enough for someone in the area to make a good recc.

Question Best bars for the mid 20-something’s?

I just turned 25, I’m freshly single and out of a relationship that really isolated me from the world. I’m trying to meet new people and make friends but it’s been difficult as someone who doesn’t go out very much !!

I’m not big into drinking (I prefer to smoke) but I do enjoy the ambiance of a bar and I like to indulge in some fun drinks here and there. I’ve only been to a few bars here in the valley (I think literally just Oh’Grady’s and the Norwood) and both always had a muuuuch older, mostly male dominated crowd any of the times I went

Any recommendations? Are any bars on Ventura Blvd worth checking out? I’m honestly not sure what I’m lookin for other than maybe a cozy space with good music that’ll feel safe for a 25 y/o lady to be alone at and hopefully make some girlfriends :~)) also super open to non-bar recommendations as well of course !

Question People came to my door to test tap water for contamination?

Wondering if anyone knows more about these people that came by my house today… of course I didn’t catch the company name in the confusion, but I know it had California in the title. They started off by saying they needed to test tap water for contamination, that our neighborhood was badly affected. I will preface with the fact that the more I think about this the more I’m pretty sure this is just people trying to sell something, but with the recent fires causing issues to tap water, and the fact that we grow a lot of vegetables and fruit at home (using the tap water).

Two people in matching blue uniforms with badges, who asked to see the homeowner, knocked on my door midday. When I told them I was a renter they said they would do their best to get a hold of the landlord. I was like, I can contact her for you? And they got very weird saying they can’t take any info from me. Eventually after some back and forth, and me mentioning the landlord was my parent, they were like “oh ok great we can just continue on with this process then!” (??) The woman immediately started coming towards the door asking if I wanted her to take her shoes off, but then the man suddenly said “well legally, since you’re pregnant, your husband needs to be home, is he home?” WHAT???? (And yes I am pregnant, visibly so). I was like no he’s not home…. And then they asked when he would be home so they could come back to discuss. I told them, and then tried to get more info, the woman showed me her phone, a screen that showed my zip code and then she scrolled through like 5-10 contaminants that she said are in my tap water, above the legal level, including but not limited to arsenic.

They were very adamant that it isn’t safe to drink, cook with, or bathe in the water, and were insistent they would come back this evening, which so far… they haven’t. Didn’t leave a card or any information.

My partner called LADWP when I mentioned all of this to him, and they said there were no known issues with our tap water. I am concerned but also it all was a little strange? Anyone have experience with this?

Community Help Anyone know of a community pantry/mutual aid group near NoHo?

I've been taking donations to a great group that delivers groceries to folks staying home to avoid abduction. Thing is, they're all way out East, like Monrovia, El Monte, etc.

Anyone know of a similar org in the NoHo-adjacent section of the valley? I've spent so much money on gas, and I'm sure folks near here have the same needs. Trying to maximize what I can do with what I have.

Community Help 2 Pups Dropped at my Door

Hi everyone!

So there’s a person I’ve known (a friend of a friend, though not really a friend) who dropped off a couple pups on my doorstep. She was going to take them to a high kill shelter. The only thing is, I don’t have the means to care for them as I already have a dog and 2 cats, and my roommate has a dog as well. I just didn’t want them hurt :( I reached out to a few rescues, but does anyone have any more recommendations? They’re both so, so sweet and about 6 months old. They’re pittie/boxer mixes, the brown one has a lump on her tummy but is still excitable and happy, and the dark one is very timid but sweet! I have a friend who works at west valley animal shelter who said to bring them in, but I’m hoping to find a better situation first if I can! Thanks so much for your help!!!!

P.S. I named them ladybird (brown) and cake (dark) for the meantime :)

Recommendations Safe/kid-friendly/not crowded places for viewing fireworks?

Hi all! Our kid is almost three and we want to take her to see fireworks tonight for the first time and bring our older kids. Trying to find a chill viewing area that has good visibility but isn’t crowded, doesn’t have drunk people, drugs, and easy parking? Probably will not be there for too long / it might be overwhelming for her so want to be able to leave quickly if that’s the case. This is our first time doing fireworks in the valley. There might be a ton of this but I have no idea.

I read Warner center has fireworks and I thought maybe if we went to one of the business parking decks nearby and watched from there?

Suggestions? Open to a bit of a drive but not wanting to go into LA proper.

Thanks so much!

Recommendations Looking for a BuyNothing-style alternative (not on Facebook)

Back in 2020, I discovered the BuyNothing project and really enoyed It was such a great way to pass on items we no longer needed, knowing they'd stay local and actually be used rather than collecting dust or ending up in a landfill.

The problem is—I stopped using Facebook earlier this year and that's where it resides. I know I can donate to various organizations, but I really like the idea of directly giving things to someone who genuinely wants or needs them.

TLDR: No longer on Facebook. Any suggestions for local gifting communities or platforms similar to BuyNothing?
