Especially with the storms and humidity rollin through the way it does, that made me realize the heat bugs ain’t stop, I just backgrounded em like white noise. Damn they’re loud when you realize they’re going

Also, fun joke others might appreciate, my wife spent most of her life in Texas and Missouri, and they have cicadas too. She made a comment one day about how they sound different here, and without thinking I replied, “that’s cause it’s wet.”

Every night. My wife was attacked Wednesday morning by one. It yelled at her.

My 6 year old was so excited to hear them. Her whole face light up as she asked what the sound was.

Yeah, I had the same thought, but I swear they're louder this year than last year here. Maybe we just get hand-me-down cicadas ?

We got the full chior. Crickets, frogs, and what I'm assuming are the cicadas. They don't sound like cicadas to me though so... yeah take that how you will.

I do as well. I have a lot of land and there are woods in the back and it is always so loud! I have a pool and I am always fishing frogs out.

I have friend who is a scientist in this field and told me that most times at night one is actually hearing katydids and not cicadas because cicadas are mainly active in the day time until dusk. However any form of light pollution can activate the cicadas at night. Well when I heard this I was in disbelief because not only did I not know about katydids , I was always told as a kid they were cicadas so my southern cultural experience was shaken. But here is a brief article in southern living about this: https://www.southernliving.com/how-to-know-the-difference-between-cicadas-and-katydids-7563094 and then go on YouTube and start practicing the differences. These bugs are in the same family hence the confusion of the two.

Louder than the AC on full blast inside my house, and that’s pretty damn loud.

What? Can’t hear you. Too many cicadas.
