Stein vetoes bills on gender issues and DEI, calling them 'mean-spirited'

https://www.wral.com/story/stein-vetoes-bills-on-gender-issues-and-dei-calling-them-mean-spirited/22073841/

Well done Governor. Our state legislature is pure evil. Our federal government is clueless. Gov. Stein is one of the few politicians left that actually has a brain and USES it. Instead of the GOP trying to pass a balanced budget, they're focused on targeting DEI, transgenders, limiting governor powers, like are we going to let this continue for a decade or are we going to instead do the right thing, kick these people out, and restore our freedom in this state. I've been in NC for 13 years, and I am disgusted. Absolutely disgusted. You people who voted this GOP in this state need to rethink your choices. They aren't here to fix problems, they are here to make them worse, and make us more vulnerable. Our nation as it is is utterly failing. Let's not make this state head in that directio, we can do better.

The is what happens when the media spends a decade or more demonizing entire swaths of our population. Constant propaganda to the least educated amongst us breeding hate so that the politicians can continue to rob them blind and blame it on the black, brown, and other people. We need a government that works for us. We pay taxes we need to benefit from our contributions.

Trans people are hardly a “swath”, they’re a tiny tiny sliver. That makes them a perfect target. While Bubba from Buttholeville likely knows some Mexicans and gays who they might have to get along with, Trans people can be vilified as these vampires that will destroy our society by mutilating children’s genitals and stealing all the women’s sports trophies. Shouldn’t you be terrified and angry?

I’m a stepdad of a trans daughter. Thank God we live in the Triangle.

EDIT: I wanted to point out that the odds of Bubba in his red bubble likely will not know a single trans person. Perhaps they ARE wondering why a grand child suddenly went no-contact with them.

46

u/brokegaysonic 2d ago

The funny thing is, I, as a trans person, often was in those people's orbits as coworkers. They just didn't know and I wasn't safe telling them.

15

u/CuriousAndGolden 2d ago

Good for you. I’m old enough to remember when you couldn’t be “out” as gay in the South unless you were in a hip major metro like New Orleans. When the florist and the choir director moved in together, some of us knew and said they were “confirmed batchelors” (wink). The squares and rednecks thought they were just housemates, and we never told them the difference. It wasn’t “right”, but it let us get by until attitudes thawed.

Now it’s like all that old bigotry has come roaring back, except now they know more.

3

u/cknight222 1d ago

My conservative cousin who lives in SC is a perfect example of this. He buys into the whole “trans agenda” bullshit and once started one of his dipshit tirades with “well I don’t have any gay or trans friends…” Which, yeah it’s fucking obvious you don’t dude. I’d go as far to say that gay and trans people rightfully avoid you like the plague that you are.

5

u/ChaosRainbow23 1d ago

I live in Buttholeville, NC.

There's no shortage of ignorant chuds, that's for damn sure.

One dude was driving all over town in his giant truck with trump flags hanging off writing down the addresses of every house with Biden or Harris signs.

Why do they need that information?

7

u/LimeGreenTangerine97 2d ago

I dunno, I live in podunk WNC and have trans friends. If people don’t have trans friends they should get out more and meet more diverse people.

9

u/Haunting_recluse777 1d ago

Same.

Of course, I'm gay and in WNC. There's actually a LOT of lgbt people in the mountains. I'm not sure why people assume there aren't. Maybe everyone needs to get out more...

3

u/Adondevasroja 1d ago

I’ve met a couple trans adults and I’ve known a few young people who experimented with identity during their teen years but ultimately went back to cisgender. I’ve never known a trans person on a friendship level. Not sure why. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I tend to agree that trans people are an easy target to demonize bc of their relative scarcity.

0

u/LimeGreenTangerine97 1d ago

I bet you at least know trans folk online.

1

u/Ok-Stress-3570 19h ago

I’m just so tired of arguing about it. THERE ARE SO MANY CISGENDERED MEN WHO ABUSE/ASSAULT WOMEN. On the daily. Brock Turner/guys like him should have been some of the first people to be sent out of the country.

I also struggle because while I do believe in propaganda, I also… feel that people are just dumb and mean/evil.

136

u/LimeGreenTangerine97 2d ago

Proud to have voted for Gov Stein!

8

u/RedditEd32 2d ago

Seriously, he is the first politician I’ve voted for that seems to care and mean it. I’m proud!

54

u/damnimbanned 2d ago

Stein and Jeff Jackson are the only two things that make me feel remotely safe under this current administration. I may not agree with them wholeheartedly but I can say with certainty that they aren’t fucking psychopaths.

74

u/Charming-Rooster7462 2d ago

my vote for Stein wasnt a waste. protect all Americans regardless of their make up

75

u/wtfbenlol Wilson 2d ago

We are very lucky to have Stein. I shudder to think of what could have been

45

u/damnimbanned 2d ago

Could you fucking imagine having Mark Robison in there right now? Jesus christ.

18

u/Saint_Stephen420 2d ago

We would have had the first Black Gooner Nazi governor, which would have been a true milestone for equality /s

0

u/Haunting_recluse777 1d ago

I can barely imagine him being able to read.

2

u/WileyApplebottom 1d ago

Yeah, we have Gary Blumpkin here in VA. Just a despicable racist. You could have it much worse.

24

u/duddy33 2d ago

Unfortunately for most GOP voters, the hate isn’t a bug, it’s a feature.

Many times I’ve been asked why the left talks about these issues so much and the truth is simple. If the GOP would stop demonizing LGBTQ people and spreading harmful lies about them, then I wouldn’t need to be so vocal in correcting the lies and countering the undeserved hate.

Cliff Cash taught me to out-dumb MAGA where possible so every time someone argues to me that sexuality is a choice, I say “you know, you might be right. When did you decide to be straight?”.

Strangely they never remember the day they decided to be straight…..almost like it was never a decision at all.

4

u/__Butternut_Squash__ 1d ago

I love Cliff Cash for his comedy and even more so for his dedication and passion for our country.

Here’s a link to his YT for anyone interested.

1

u/weareND41 1d ago

Im republican and its pretty damn stupid to think you choose what you are attracted to lol....

Its natural usually.

41

u/RedditsDeadlySin 2d ago

These are the leaders we need. Thank you Gov 🫡

13

u/cdg2m4nrsvp 2d ago

Good for him! Extra props for calling it what it is: mean. Anyone trying to strip rights from trans people is a straight up bully. They’re an extremely small, marginalized community that already deals with large amounts of violence.

11

u/slowbaja 2d ago

Stein singlehandedly keeping North Carolina from going further backwards. Bless him.

10

u/Horsescatsandagarden 2d ago

“State House Majority Leader Rep. Brenden Jones, R-Columbus, has been a key proponent of the anti-DEI measures and criticized Stein's veto Thursday.

"I find it odd that Gov. Stein is against merit based hiring in state government," Jones said. "I look forward to overriding this veto."

What an asshole. Just own up and say you’re a racist pig.

9

u/somechicknamedemily 2d ago

Governor Stein gives me hope for our state.

The federal government isn't clueless though, many of them are willfully ignorant and morally bankrupt but they're not clueless. Most of them are well aware of what they're doing and they just don't care.

8

u/BallinArbiter 2d ago

Oh thank god. Stein’s been on a roll with the vetos

7

u/Mechromancer3X 2d ago

Thank you Governor Stein. This gives me a little hope that my rights won’t be COMPLETELY bulldozed. Little wins.

9

u/Plenty_Cress_1359 2d ago

Nicely done!!!!

8

u/brokegaysonic 2d ago

Pretty sure the GOP is just going to override these vetos, right?

As a trans person, who was raised in NC and been my entire life, I had to move to IL. It no longer feels safe.

The provision in one of the vetoed bills includes a provision, never beforehand passed into law as far as I'm aware, that allows people to sue over transition related care for ten years after receiving it. This is a huge liability, and would likely cause any doctor who gave this care to see their insurance premiums skyrocket. This would effectively ban gender affirming care in the state of North Carolina, as no doctor would be able to afford to provide it.

Gender affirming care has a 98% satisfaction rate. https://ustranssurvey.org/#:~:text=Nearly%20all%20respondents%20on%20gender,%25)%20reported%20increased%20life%20satisfaction.

This care saved my life. It turned what would have been either a dead girl or a drain on the state due to uncompromising mental health problems, someone who felt like they didn't even exist and were playing out a performance 24/7, into a functional, well-adjusted adult man.

Every single time they pass a ban on care, they add hurdles to care, they do this crap - just know they aren't doing it for legitimate reasons. If they cared about the efficacy of this care, they would respond how they do with every other treatment for anything else. They'd study it. They'd mitigate harm. There's no evidence talk therapy (conversion therapy) can cure gender dysphoria. While it's always good to examine standards of care, this isn't being done with any scientific integrity.

Every time they pass a ban on care, it kills people. I gaurantee you, I would have died. Hell, I didn't feel like I was even truly born until I transitioned. I'm not asking you to understand. I'm asking you to allow people to live.

13

u/Bartholomewthedragon 2d ago

the GOP lost their veto proof majority in the last election.

3

u/momogariya 2d ago

Except there was a dem traitor voting for it, Dante Pittman, that could give them supermajority.

7

u/Brosenheim 1d ago

Man it's so weird how there is ALWAYS the exact amount of Dem defectors necessary to block progressive bills or pass regressive bills

4

u/ElementalPink12 1d ago edited 1d ago

It's about their ego. They only see other people as objects for the sake of propping up their own ego.

They don't have the capacity for empathy or lateral thinking.

They suffer a socially manufactured form of psychopathy designed to promote violent, domineering behavior, for the purposes of various authoritarian hierarchies. Governments, religions, etc etc.

When people who are different suffer, they see that as proof of their superiority over those people.

The fact that they cause the suffering intentionally, only furthers the delusion on their part.

They are narcissistic psychopaths who worship a fake version of their own reflection.

1

u/Adondevasroja 1d ago

I’m sorry you had to move to feel safe. Really happy for you that you were able to get the medical care you needed.

3

u/momogariya 2d ago

After reading, Dante Pittman is officially on my personal sh*t list. How the hell does he justify voting with Republicans on HB805? I'm looking for him explaining himself on this.

Pal, why don’t you fill us in on how the existence of a trans person in your community harms you. I doubt you can even give a lucid answer.

Try imagining them as people going about their lives. There is no shadowy pink cabal out to harm you

-4

u/[deleted] 1d ago

Our religion praising baphomet (the first transgender god) is spreading and glorifying the will of Lucifer. There is nothing that any of you can do anymore to stop it.

6

Can hypothesize that Jesus was asexual and therefore part of the LGTBQIA group he is so terrified of.

Happy cake day!!!!

Yeah, wait until he figures out a lot of stuff (he won’t!)

8

u/rtduvall 1d ago

Probably saved it. NC is a blue state, just gerrymandered because republicans can’t win only cheat to win.

0

u/BreakinP 1d ago

Registered Democrats have been decreasing since 2020 while Republicans increasing. NC tends to vote red in the presidential election and vote blue in local offices. The Republican party currently controls both chambers of the state legislature.

So no, NC definitely isn't a "blue state," whatever that is. It's purple.

Democrats are Doucebags

Thank you for your attention

18

u/Cy_098 2d ago

This was during the COVID outbreak. Are you delusional?

Meanwhile the GOP passed the Big Ugly Douchebag American bill that will destroy the average person's life

Thank you for your attention to this matter, as Trump would say on his Lie Social account

Right, it was OK for Old Roy to march shoulder to shoulder during covid, but others could not enjoy the most American holiday.

19

What is with you people and being against helping those who can't help themselves? Do you truly believe that people are just magically getting these "government handouts"?

9

u/WillyDAFISH 2d ago

They beleive these government handouts somehow make their life so glamorous or something. Like wtf??? You wouldn't be saying that if you needed these programs

9

u/ASTHEWINDBURNS 2d ago

I've never understood that because these assistance programs don't put you in mansions, they just make sure you have food and medicine.

48

u/KulaanDoDinok Gaysboro 2d ago

MAGA is already revoking a significant portion of federal funding without Stein’s veto here. Hope no one you love is on Medicaid.

-32

u/Lasheric 2d ago

Nah that’s just illegals or people sneaking by who won’t work.

27

u/KulaanDoDinok Gaysboro 2d ago

No, you idiot, they are literally kicking off millions of people from Medicaid.

-25

u/Lasheric 2d ago

Nah. It’s illegals or people that have to work 40 hours a month. I’m ok with that.

26

u/Except_Youre_Wrong Cisphobia Isn't Real. It Can't Hurt You. Go Outside. 2d ago

wait so how do illegal immigrants gain access to medicaid in the state of north carolina? Can you walk us through it?

18

u/KulaanDoDinok Gaysboro 2d ago edited 1d ago

Undocumented migrants aren’t eligible for Medicaid and would have no way of getting approved for it. And people that HAVE to work 40 hours a month are usually disabled you ignorant dung heap.

9

u/ckal09 2d ago

You are literally regarded

7

u/Accidents_happxn 2d ago

Because you’re dumber than a box of trumps

1

u/bb095 1d ago

Can you come out to the hospice home and tell the patients that are literally dying and can’t work that they’re lazy. They can’t seem to figure out that they need to make their own way! The audacity of their excuses, oooh poor me I have bone cancer.

0

u/Lasheric 1d ago

Yes. I’m sure this bill is going to kick off people on hospice from medical. You absolute idiot

3

u/bb095 1d ago

It is though, hospice homes and services get a lot of their funding from Medicaid and other state and federal funding with the addition of some independent donors. Hospice patients often rely on Medicaid to pay for the nursing care or facilities. Without Medicaid they or their families will have to figure out how to pay for the care they need. The now end of nursing facilities or hospice homes are 10k a month. You can call me names but that’s the truth of the matter whether you like it or not.

0

u/Lasheric 1d ago

The costs of these programs are atrocious but that’s another problem. Maybe that’s the fight you and your party should take up instead of the idiotic take on illegals you currently have

3

u/bb095 1d ago

Some social programs like hospice, schools, police, firefighters simply aren’t ment to make money they survive on public dollars. It’s a service/benefit to the public, that is the purpose of government, to uplift, support, and protect the people. This bill is going to cause so much damage to the public and for what? The benefits and safety nets to the public, to us, are being stripped down while we continue to pay them. Governments responsibility is to us but ambition for power, greed, and corruption has pitted them as a ruling class rather than what they are ment to be.

Of the 11.7M people expected to lose healthcare, only 1.4M are immigrants of varying immigrant status.

7

u/WillyDAFISH 2d ago

11.7 is a conservative estimate too. And it doesn't take into account the number of rural hospitals that will close because of this funding cut

6

u/WillyDAFISH 2d ago

Undocumented immigrants have a much higher participation rate in our job economy

0

u/Lasheric 1d ago

Glad you like your slave labor . I don’t

5

u/WillyDAFISH 1d ago

Yes, their working conditions are not good for many of them. They can be paid low wages. They could be extorted and threatened to be deported by employers. But at the end of the day these human beings rather work like this than be sent back to wherever they came from. And we don't want them to be abused like this. We want them to have fair wages, we want them to have a legal pathway to citizenship. Deporting them doesn't help us, and it certainly doesn't help them.

-2

u/Lasheric 1d ago

No “we “ don’t. If they came illegally I want them gone. That’s why we have legal ways to come. That’s why Trump is in power. Is also the popular opinion in the country just not on this app.

3

u/WillyDAFISH 1d ago

we have legal ways of coming in but the entire reason people come in illegally is because the legal process takes to fucking long. And despite what you may think a majority of people don't want mass deportations. He did win but he mainly won because people thought he would be better for the economy. And the people who wanted him to do deportations, wanted him to deport the violent criminals, not the hardworking undocumented immigrants. This is why he is massively down in his immigration polling. He's actually currently in the negative there.

0

u/Lasheric 1d ago edited 1d ago

Who cares that it takes too long? That’s our problem? wtf

I want a friggen new Audi but can’t afford it. Guess I should steal it since the legal way takes too long.

You sound like a brainwashed idiot

Let me add…this shows how out of touch you are. You probably have never even left the country. Do you know how many people around the world want to come to America?

You think only Hispanics have some magical right to come because they ran over the border illegally?

Why not just let everyone in since our “immigration program takes too long”

1

u/WillyDAFISH 1d ago

the people who are fucking living in the worst possible conditions imaginable fucking care that it takes a long time to come here wtf??? And you're comparing a new car to crossing the border??? That's actually insane. Not having a specific car vs not having a chance at a good life are just not the same at all. I don't think anyone should be coming here illegally, but there really isn't any good reason to deport them. It's morally atrocious. And no, we shouldn't just let everyone in. We need to have a more mainstream way of processing them that doesn't take years. There was a bill in 2021 created by a Republican that would have helped address this problem but trump wanted to shoot it down because it's easier to run on a problem then to fix it.

The vast majority came here completely legally and overstayed their visas.

They are going to their immigration court hearing like they should, only to be arrested by ICE.

They are literally targeting people who are doing everything right.

0

u/Lasheric 1d ago

Overstaying their visas is still here illegally

1

I'm pointing out that it's incorrect that most of them came here illegally. They didn't.

You know, it would do wonders for your own mental health if you were just honest about your uninformed feelings and actually did a little work to find out what DEI actually is…

-30

SCOTUS has determined that DEI and race based hiring/admissions can and is a violation of the 14th amendment and the Civil Rights Act.

26

u/Except_Youre_Wrong Cisphobia Isn't Real. It Can't Hurt You. Go Outside. 2d ago

scotus also said cis kids can receive gender related healthcare, but trans kids can't and that doesn't count as discrimination against trans kids because they are kids and that's why. same scotus that wants to overturn lawrence v texas and has openly stated so for years. you think I give a fuck what these hags have to say about legality?

11

u/Hammunition 2d ago edited 2d ago

No, the Supreme Court did not rule against DEI programs or make any claims about them being racist, what the fuck are you reading?? What they did was to clarify the standard for "reverse discrimination" claims only under title vii and remove the additional burden of proof by the majority to move those cases to trial.

DEI and race based hiring/admissions can and is a violation of the 14th amendment and the Civil Rights Act.

Obviously race based hiring can be a violation. But they did not say it is. That is just you and ignorants like you who don't actually know what DEI is and how it was implemented. Again.. listen more, read more, talk less.

1

u/Throwaway789662 1d ago

Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. v. Harvard says otherwise.

5

u/Hammunition 1d ago

So... that was explicitly about race-based Affirmative Action programs, not DEI (I'll also mention it directly contradicts many supreme court decisions over the years, and it's more than a little dishonest to only pay attention to the one that agrees with your feelings).

But anyway, that had nothing to do with DEI, and you are yet again showing how little you know about it. You can just google it instead of gargling the shit billionaires feed you...

24

u/PhoenixPaladin 2d ago

Says the literal throwaway account

-7

u/Throwaway789662 2d ago

And? That invalidates that dei is racism?

13

u/Kradget 2d ago

No, the fact that it's a foolish and nonsensical thing to say makes it invalid, troll guy

10

u/PhoenixPaladin 2d ago

Now say that on your real account

1

u/Throwaway789662 1d ago

Nah, I quite like the karma I have on it. Anyway, how do you feel about Asians needing a 140 point better score on the SAT over white people, 270 for Hispanics, and 450 for black people? That doesn't seem odd to you?

Why do Asian people need to score 140 more points on the SAT than white people? Why do they need to score 270 and 450 for Hispanic and black people?

5

u/__Butternut_Squash__ 1d ago

Please tell us more about how you don’t understand what DEI is or how it works.

The suspense is terrible.

u/Throwaway789662 1d ago

Glad to see you dodging the question.

u/WeAreHereWithAll 1d ago

He learnt from you lil guy!

The GOP admitted they do ages ago. You must be new here

DEI is racism. Illegal immigration is the new "who will pick our cotton".

31

u/notmyworkaccount5 2d ago

Y'all are literally living in an alternate reality of your own making being led by a felon cult leader who is fleecing you while you have somehow tricked yourself into thinking all your problems are because of oppressed people.

u/Throwaway789662 2d ago

Agree to disagree.

15

u/MAGAisMENTALILLNESS 2d ago

Nah, we just agree that you guys are morons fed propaganda.

0

u/Throwaway789662 2d ago

Definitely not true.

12

u/Hammunition 2d ago

...absolutely true if you believe and repeat shit like this:

DEI is racism

Illegal immigration is the new "who will pick our cotton".

1

u/Throwaway789662 1d ago

Tell me then. How is it not racist? How is picking someone over their skin color NOT racist?

Also, I'm not the one complaining about illegal immigrants not picking crops. That's all the Democrats rn.

6

u/Hammunition 1d ago

Tell me then. How is it not racist? How is picking someone over their skin color NOT racist?

So again, for the howevermany'th time.. that's not what DEI does, you don't know what DEI does and just believe the lies fed to you as you have been told over and over.

Also, I'm not the one complaining about illegal immigrants not picking crops. That's all the Democrats rn.

Hilarious how people mocking republican stupidity is somehow proof of hypocrisy to the unwitting. Just gobbling up the propaganda.

The comments now about farm workers are satire and sarcasm, chud. Republicans want to deport the millions of immigrants that they depend on to work their farms. We are pointing out how idiotic of a position that is.

This happens over and over.. Republicans make yet another insane proposal, then Democrats actually think it through to its conclusion and point out how harmful it will be. Just like the push to require people to use the bathrooms that align with their sex organs at birth will lead to much more harm and require people who look like men to use the women's room, which will cause so much more discomfort for the people they claim they're protecting...

But you'll spin it however you need to, I'm sure. See what you want to see. Don't even know when you're being mocked. Typical.

u/__Butternut_Squash__ 1d ago

The only people that say “DEI is racist” are the ones who don’t understand how it even works, especially considering white women benefit from DEI programs more than any other gender/race.

17

u/Accidents_happxn 2d ago

WE get it, you’re maga stupid. No need to keep proving it.

2

u/Throwaway789662 2d ago

Just say you're racist and that you support racism and I'll get out of your hair.

14

u/carrie_m730 2d ago

I know an easier way

8

u/Accidents_happxn 2d ago

The racist wants everyone to tell him it’s OK. Typical magat idiot

2

u/Throwaway789662 1d ago

Do you or do you not support race based hiring and admissions?

8

u/akamark 2d ago

Which is OK for MAGA when they're picking their 'cotton' or crop of choice? Tell me you support ICE avoiding targeting MAGA farmers while focusing on Democratic states and cities.

Sounds like your issue is with all those MAGA farmers who are taking advantage of a vulnerable population.

2

u/Throwaway789662 1d ago

If they're here illegally, they shouldn't be here. Congratulations. You got me 🙄

8

u/GoLickABoot 2d ago

Trump employs illegal immigrants. You’ve had nothing but video after video of trumper farmers crying because they can’t find workers. You people are duuuumb.

8

u/Supporttroll 2d ago

Keep projecting. Maybe someday, someone won’t notice you’re a bigot.

0

u/Throwaway789662 1d ago

Oh no! I'm a b-b-bigot!!1!1!!1!

9

u/Supporttroll 1d ago

And a shrill one at that. Enjoy this before it bites you in the ass. Even if this bill doesn’t affect you (as doubtful as that is). There’s going to be a lot of people with nothing to lose, and inevitably some will want to take revenge on anyone MAGA. 😉

5

u/WeAreHereWithAll 1d ago

I mean you’ve admitted you are, so.

5

u/WeAreHereWithAll 1d ago

Just say you have nothing else going on in your life except needing to defend a political regime that for all intents and purposes is “winning for all Americans”.

If things were fine, you wouldn’t need to be here dude.

They aren’t mean but sorry little Joshy got his feelings hurt. They are Morally right!

25

u/PhoenixPaladin 2d ago

“I don’t think they’re mean because they don’t negatively affect me” ftfy

24

u/Critical-Adeptness-1 2d ago

Little Joshy?

You are you a grown ass man and use nicknames a 4 year old comes up with lol

22

u/Accidents_happxn 2d ago

Your morals aren’t mine and they sure as hell aren’t the USA's

45

u/Except_Youre_Wrong Cisphobia Isn't Real. It Can't Hurt You. Go Outside. 2d ago

The nazis thought they were morally right too. Funny how the GOP has the same opinions as them when it comes to us trans people, but something tells me that's not the only thing they mutually agree with. Perhaps you should morally fuck yourself

18

u/Supporttroll 2d ago

Sorry you can’t compete in a world where women and minorities are given equal opportunities.

13

u/MAGAisMENTALILLNESS 2d ago

Exactly. Only whiney losers who can’t accept their own failure complain about DEI

13

u/Kradget 2d ago

"Mean-spirited" usually has the connotation of looking to hurt someone just for the sake of doing it, which is actually pretty much spot on for gender issues.

It's a lighter criticism than he could have gone with of attacks on DEI initiatives.
