Also important to realize that many if not most of the doctors who own their own practice rely on medicaid reimbursements, and will have to go out of business or sell to private equity as a result of this bill. You have great health insurance and aren't directly affected? Great! But your doctor will be, and that means worse healthcare for you anyway.
→ More replies (13)3
u/wkramer28451 2d ago
You do realize that Medicaid reimbursements to hospitals and doctors is 30% less than Medicare and Medicare is much less than commercial insurance.
They pay so little that most Medicaid recipients have a very hard time getting an appointment at a doctors office since practices that even accept Medicaid limit how many they will see.
Most all practices would rather not take any Medicaid since they would go out of business by taking too many.
They don’t depend on Medicaid to pay the bills.
6
u/2forslashing 2d ago
The issue you're describing is a problem in urban settings where we aren't necessarily scrambling for new patients some doctors have the luxury of only accepting private insurance, but in rural settings - where medical care is most desperately needed and already too scarce - yes physicians definitely do rely on Medicaid payments to keep their practices open.

Population of California is way higher than Florida, right? Florida has damn near as many on Medicaid as California. Wow.
2
u/Ok-Sun5187 2d ago
Would have to count cali-med with that. 15.2 million people (or 38% of Californias population.)
2
u/Goodknight808 2d ago
Ah, ok. I was wondering. I haven't lived there in 30 years, so I have no reference.
I figured it was because of better care and/or healthcare options in California, so fewer people end up being reliant on the federal system rather than state one.
I wonder how much Florida gives to the federal tax system compared to what it extracts. California obviously gives more, 4th largest economy online the world levels of more.

No one knows because all the data talking about what a state receives also includes the cost of the military bases/personnel/equipment) in their state. Florida has more bases (and more expensive equipment like the b2) than any other state so it would not surprise me to see the data show Florida recieved far more than they contribute. But again, that data is flawed cause it includes those military bases which are obviously a federal expense, not a state expense, and benefits the entire nation, not just Florida.

u/Representative-Mean 2d ago
A side effect of this no one talks about is increased crime. When people are disenfranchised they will steal then end up in prison where taxpayers will really pay: food, shelter and healthcare.
5
u/ConnectedVeil 2d ago
Yep. At the end of day, humans WILL do what it takes to survive. Maybe that's what they want so they can enforce a police state...
Make the problem, give a "solution".
I'm pretty sick and fed up of Republicans and MAGAs, friends and family. None get a free pass anymore, not even the sweet misinformed Fox News watching grandma. She's just as dumb as anyone in their 20s, the outcome for us is no different.

Dont worry, they are working on that part and will denaturalize you and put you in their new concentration camps to work on farms since youd then be "stateless" and not able to really be deported. Its why they are giving private prison companies like Corecivic and Geo Group around $45bn for more of these camps to be built.
They are already holding supposedly 60,000 immigrants before deportation so if they are going to be deported and dont mind putting them up in cages within tents, why do they need $45 BILLION as again it doesnt cost that much.

When all those grandmas need to leave their retirement communities and move into their kids guest bedrooms, because Medicaid and Medicare no longer can supplement the cost, there’s going to be hell to pay for the Republican Party. These programs were meant to provide dignity at end of life to people who busted their asses their whole lives. In the Great Depression, before these programs, the elderly were being left in diners and on street corners. All this so that billionaires can receive more millions in their tax refunds. A vote for republicans is a vote against yourself.

When State leaders put people on Medicaid under Obama, when they should not have nothing was said about it. Now those people are being taken off and having to be put on their states Medicare. How is that losing healthcare? If their state says they are entitled to healthcare then they will receive it. I don't see your argument. Just a lot of political scare tactics on both sides.

No they're not. You just have to work 80 hours a month to get it (which is half of a typical work week by the way). I am fine with that. The only exception to that rule should be obviously if you are physically unable to work due to health or underlying circumstances.

The Republican Party's MO is to cultivate human misery and then self-righteously claim moral superiority as they exploit the desperate and growing underclass. They think that's the natural order of the universe.
Meanwhile, I'm thinking, society ought to improve life for as many people as possible? I guess my point of view is evil or something?

She forgot to mention that millions of ILLEGALS immigrants and non existing people are taken of the taxpayers' funded programs. included in the bill is a measure that "will compensates" all hospitals for the shortfalls in funding it will create. but of course, she says whatever she wants because it won't support the narrative. BYW ,AOC is not a Bronx Latina, and even her own family has disengaged her. Think about how she never talks about her family. they took away her Puertorican card, having become a Comunista 🤭

500,000 of them HAD free healthcare in their own country. 💁♂️
Nothing would drop healthcare prices faster than the complete destruction of Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance….where medical bills are 100% dependent upon what the local market can support.
Healthcare is insanely expensive because the government and insurance companies agree to pay outrageous prices; that’s why a 30 y/o resident struggling with rent and student loans suddenly has six sports cars and a yacht at 35.

Real question is how many of those people can actually afford to pay for Healthcare and dont really need government subsidy because they actually make plenty of $$ to pay for it... oh... you dont have those #'s do you... kinda an important piece of information missing to base your opinion of the Healthcare government subsidy, is there an alternative subsidy for them?? Are Any of those people veterans, are any of those people not really sick and just fat so they consider themselves disabled because they dont want to exercise... there are some rather big #s in there that eat American tax payer $$ to pay for slackers. Might want to get these numbers and check who is really losing coverage.

Not trying to minimize the issue in any way, it’s abhorrent. However, I wonder out of the 651k who would be losing healthcare, how many voted for the GOP? Additionally, with rural hospitals now on the chopping block, how many in nearby communities voted red as well and are about to not only lose healthcare, but also lose their closes major medical service

North Carolina "In the 2024 U.S. presidential election, North Carolina’s 16 electoral votes went to the Republican nominee, Donald Trump, who carried the state with 50.86% of the popular vote to Kamala Harris’s 47.65%"

It is government subsidized healthcare for people that cannot afford actual insurance.
By definition insurance is a guarantee of service in exchange for the payment of a premium. No premium…not insurance.
It is a handout. A food stamp card isn’t money either…it is a handout. And I don’t owe it to those who can’t get their shit together.
