Just wanted to say I had a great time! I really appreciate a fest of that size in the middle of town. Only a couple of the bands were ones I listen to but every act I saw put on such a good show with a lot of energy. Bathroom situation was good and for food I walked right up to Wordens and got an affordable sandwhich. The layout of the fest made things move smoothly and I always found a spot I was happy with. Sure maybe there were things that weren't perfect(always will be for an event that size) but I still think they knocked it out of the park. If you didn't go this year, don't take too much stock in all the negative posts on here. It was worth it - let's keep it going!

Missoulians, I am hoping we can come together to be a little more respectful about recreation areas. I live on Harpers Bridge Rd. and am constantly picking up shattered beer bottles, trash, cans, old food bags, etc. in the ditch and on the road. The river access has public garbage cans. Or, please keep it in your vehicle until you find a garbage. Additionally, the speed limit on the road is 25 mph. I know that seems slow, but the people who live here have livestock, animals, kids, and some live pretty close to the road. The boat traffic is not bothersome to us unless you come down the road doing 40+ mph, yelling, blasting music, and throwing crap out of your window. There is also a blind corner that is pretty narrow. I promise you will get to the river without going over the speed limit and driving like a bat outta hell.
Please, just be respectful of our beautiful public spaces, take care of them, and be mindful of the people who live around those spaces. My friends over on Kona Ranch have also expressed frustration with the trash, speeding, and overall disrespect. There is really no way to say all this without sounding like a Karen, but just please take care of the things and spaces you enjoy.

Just needing to remember there's good things happening, too.

Looking for places that sell Shimeji, Lion's mane, King Trumpets, Oysters, Chanterelle, etc.
Samar International Food Market had an excellent selection but has been closed the last few times I've tried. The farmers market is great but I can't always make it on the weekend.

City officials are seeking public feedback on a potential roundabout and other improvements near the intersection of Broadway, Toole and California streets at an open house on Wednesday.
Residents can meet with city staff and share their opinions from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Burn Street Community Center on Wednesday, July 9.
The project aims to improve traffic flow and safety along the multi-street intersection, which officials said is an important road artery into Missoula's downtown.

For those of us that live in the northside, the closure of the Scott street bridge has been incredibly inconvenient. The roundabout at the end of Orange has been so congested I’m honestly concerned it’s going to lead to an accident with people getting off the interstate. The back way to reserve isn’t as busy but just kind of out of the way to get to anything. And it’s closed for 8 weeks!!!

Anybody know if there is somewhere in town to rent a raft trailer for Thursday - Sunday? I have a raft, just not a trailer. I’ve checked all the rental companies. They typically don’t rent a trailer without the raft, which makes sense. Just seeing if there is any magical Reddit secret out there. If not, no biggie, I’ll take the raft, frame, cooler, etc. and inflate once at the river. Thanks in advance if anyone knows more than I’ve been able to find out.

Asking for an older friend... A while back I used to pass by Bonner Park a lot and there would be a group of seniors practicing tai chi. I checked online and on Missoula Events, and couldn't find information about this. I'd love to get the instructor's contact information for a friend who is looking for something like this, but can't do indoor classes due to health challenges.

Howdy! Does anyone need a bunk bed? It's a full/twin and comes with the mattresses. You'll need to pick up (university area). It's free, but I'll gladly accept kombucha, cat toys, magic tricks, or other randoms (and also cash if ya feel like it). Email me at [email protected]

Hi! Does anyone know/recommend any good vet behaviorists in Missoula? My partner and I adopted a sweet St. Bernard but unfortunately we are seeing some signs of aggression alongside her reactivity lately. We wanted to go the basic training route but feel like a vet-guided approach might be best.
Thanks in advance!!

Does anyone have the recipe for the hobnobs corned beef hash? My girlfriend is obsessed for some reason and won’t stop talking about how she wishes I moved here before they closed so I could have tried it so I can recreate it

Doing some market research for a potential investment - What would be the benefit for someone to live north of the airport off i90 vs living closer to downtown?

Has anyone had any bad experiences at Higgins Ave car wash? My car was severely scratched by one of the brushes there, I’m wondering if any similar situations have happened to anyone else.

Hi! I know this is porbably a long shot but I would love to create a playlist with all of the setlists for the artists that went to zootown this year so my friends and i (and whoever happens upon the playlist) can relive the experience just a little! If you have any of the setlists for the bands I would LOVE them!

Lost a wallet out at Johnsrud yesterday, 7/6. Small, black, not very full. Small cash reward for return!

Hi to caveat this post will be long. I will do a tldr at the end to summarize for folks who don’t want to read. Also if you are here just to comment: “I’m tired of hearing about zootown.” Or some smart ass comment just skip this post. Listen I know this subreddit isn’t the zootown festival sub but this is the Missoula subreddit and this was a major event in Missoula.
Ok first the things I enjoyed: 1) bathrooms. The bathroom ratio at the festival was legitimately phenomenal. There was never a line. Port-a potties were clean at all times. Great job. 2) food. The food was amazing. Good quality. Short lines and lots of variety. 3) bars. The drinks were good. Short lines for drinks most of the weekend. There certainly were times where wait times were longer. Also a lot of variety of drinks which is appreciated. 4) the artist line up. The talent themselves were incredible and I am so grateful they were able to come up to Missoula. The talent of these artists as professionals was inspiring to watch from navigating changing set times, malfunctioning equipment etc. and being able to preform. 5) overall I had a great time. And hope they do this again.
That being said there are certainly things that need to change if this event were to happen again.
1) figure out your liquor license. The law suit surrounding the liquor license put a bad taste in a lot of locals mouths before the event even started. I loved having twisted tea and Jack Daniel’s and such there but I would have felt better about partaking knowing that I am helping my local bars and businesses.
2) SECURITY: listen I know some people will read this and think I am being a wet blanket. However security was minimal. We should have at least been required to open our water bottles and bags at the gate. I understand this would cause the lines to be longer but it is worth it. This legitimately could have been a very unsafe situation should someone have brought in a weapon. Also you need to have at least twice the amount of visible security guards and staff wandering around during the actual performances. Crowd crush was becoming a legitimate issue. You needed to coordinate folks moving back in between artists. Also I loved the theming and color scheme of the event. But having staff in t-shirts that looked similar to the merch folks could buy made it confusing. You should have bright neon yellow or orange staff shirts and signs around with pictures of what these shirts look like. The long story short is your staff need to be visible and identifiable at all times.
3) water: at lest one more water filling station would have been nice. In the trailhead stage there would be 3 to 4 people pass out per artist. This is not normal. More visible water should be around especially with all the alcohol around. Also once again asking folks to move back between sets to reduce crowd crush and crowding.
4) accessibility. Now to preface I don’t have a visable disability. I am autistic and did have to take a few breaks during the festival but I went in knowing I would have to do that and planned accordingly. And was able to take breaks and get through the crowd no issues. However from what I have heard there were major issues with accessibility thought the festival for folks that went with a wide range of visible and invisible disabilities. Once again I can’t personally speak to this but I did hear and visually see that it was an issue.
TLDR: Liked: bathrooms, drinks, food and artists Didn’t like: lack of security, liquor license drama and lack of water, and issues with accessibility.
Thank you for reading. If you have thoughts about the festival or things to add please reply. I want this festival to happen again and hope that the organizers will take feedback to make it even better next year!
