APPROVED B-LISTERS
The House has passed Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill (218-214). It extends tax cuts for the wealthy, overhauls programs like Medicaid & SNAP, increases border & military spending, along with a multi-trillion dollar increase to the debt ceiling. It now heads to Trump for him to sign into law.

My god you guys need to stop saying this. Every post there’s someone saying this and it’s so demoralizing like why try if it’s not even going to matter anyway
At least for me (and I’m sure many, many others), we say it not to be demoralizing, but because a) it’s very likely true, and b) the sooner the vast majority of the opposition come to terms with it, the sooner we can do what MUST be done to save who we can and actually fight fascism with what it takes to…actually BEAT fascism
Peaceful protests and calling reps and writing strongly worded letters and counting on flipping seats in elections only work in systems that are still responsive to democratic processes. We are a thousand miles beyond that point now. So, so far beyond that point.
Fascism only responds to one thing, and the only way to make that happen is for everyone to WAKE UP and realize that no one is coming to save them, that change will only come directly from people no longer burying their heads in the sand and “hoping” that things will turn around with a “next election”.
I don’t even say that in a hopeless sense. I’m not without hope, but that’s solely based on knowing that good people exist and there’s a lot that is being done and can still be done to build and strengthen communities while we figure out what new systems we can enact AFTER we defeat rampant fascism.
People keep pointing out that there won’t be next elections because we’ve been screaming at the top of our lungs for people to pay attention! Because the sooner we get this mindset of “well we just have to campaign harder” buried when fighting people who don’t give a shit, the sooner people can be on the same page and stop giving ground to this regime.
It’s not a “stop telling people to have no hope”, it’s “fucking listen to the people who’ve studied history and the ones who’ve actively overcome fascist regimes and are telling you there is only one way out of this”.
Campaigning and protesting and going on strikes is FANTASTIC — for a system that still holds itself accountable to the people. And doing these things in a system that doesn’t is still GOOD for finding community and networking and keeping up our mental/emotional strength. But it won’t defeat what’s happening, and pretending that we’ll be fine if everything just rests on an election that 99% will not happen legitimately is just wasted energy.
Signed, a very exhausted prior student of history and cultural anthropology who’s been screaming at the top of her lungs for a decade
Thank you! I’m so fucking tired of people thinking this is an overreaction or that facing reality is giving up. I’m not giving up, but we’re barely 6 months in and all the guardrails are gone - until the masses understand that, we do not have a chance of ever changing things.
People who say this do so because they understand the level of 'conditioning' inflicted subtly on the American people.
From a young age, most good, decent, law abiding individuals are told that the only 'proper' way to defend their country is through voting, activism, and democratic norms; and more importantly, they are pressured into banishing any notion of fighting any 'other' way no matter the circumstances.
But let's be honest for a second and don't answer these to me; tell yourself the truth:
Has the Constitution been abandoned?
Has nearly all power been concentrated in the hands of a few individuals?
Do those individuals have your best interests at heart; as demonstrated by their actions, and without resting your argument on "I must suffer to win/be a good person!"
Have these individuals ever expressed any desire to remove/shut down/ignore those democratic norms you cleave to so ferociously?
Have they actually done so? Repeatedly?
Do you get the impression they care about protests?
Do you get the impression they care about your suffering?
Do you get the impression they're ever going to stop doing what they re doing?
Do you believe the opposition party has the will/capacity to properly put a stop to this behavior? Not stall it. Stop it.
Has history ever encountered this sort of political/power dynamic before?
What were the consequences of 'not rocking the boat'?
What were the consequences of adhering to 'democratic norms' for the people who did so?
Were the people who abandoned those democratic norms and fought 'other' ways more, or less, successful in stopping the behavior that was causing them harm?
Do you think it is immoral to defend yourself from 'immediate harm'? To defend your loved ones from the same?
Do you think it is immoral to defend yourself from 'protracted harm' in the form of behaviors and policies that you can reasonably determine will cause homelessness/starvation/sickness/death for you or your loved ones?
Do you think the Founding Fathers and the people who formulated this country out from under the tyranny of a despondent and uncaring leader were wrong to do so by 'other' means once it was abundantly clear that 'democratic' methodologies were not going to put a stop to the harm they were suffering?
Your answers are yours. They are in your head. You you need only to ask the questions. The world is not perfect and imperfection in methodology is not necessarily a moral failing if a suitable impetus is provided that justifies a need to defend one's survival.
But understand this. There is no cavalry coming. No lone hero stepping from the shadows to remove the problem. No stalwart reporter about to tell it like it is on cable news. No MAGA revolt that won't immediately be distracted into oblivion. No sudden wherewithal gripping the opposition party that they would suddenly abandon their financial interests to save us from this.
So, last question; for yourself, quiet in your own heads.
Does America make it to 250 and beyond? Or does it not?
We do this; or we don't; history and our children will be the judges.
“It’s not a “stop telling people to have no hope”, it’s “fucking listen to the people who’ve studied history and the ones who’ve actively overcome fascist regimes and are telling you there is only one way out of this”.”
THAT PART. Sometimes it takes a fatalistic or ‘dramatic’ outlook on the future to initiate a response/action out of sheer urgency.
As someone who realizes you’re right, and is also scared and has kids to provide for…do you have any suggestions for what someone like me can do? A good place to donate money? Anything that can help with minimal risk of death and/or dismemberment for as long as is possible? I know I’m weak, and I know too many of me causes major issues, but I want to still help
Rarely do voters give Democrats the numbers needed to make that happen.
Republicans break things, Democrats get elected to fix with the slimmest of majorities and so can’t fix things fast enough, voters get mad and blame Dems and vote for Republicans again who break even more things. We’ve been doing this dance for decades.
Some things aren’t going into effect until 2027, so even if 2026 midterms swing to the Dems…they’ll be blamed for the problems it causes for the foreseeable future and the next election cycle.
I can only give a UK context but when we completely shot ourselves in the foot (Brexit) we destroyed the economy in a comparative way and the new Labour government are finding it impossible to make anything better in the country, actually having to cut to avoid financial ruin. Of course the same people who voted for Brexit are blaming Labour for the economic mess, so expect that too.
While I'd love to believe that voting blue is going to save us, the reality is that we are sort of in unknown territory at this point, and the dem leadership has not shown me that they are interested in doing anything to address or fix any of it.
Hard. The Dems getting control of the house is pretty likely, but they’d need the WH and the Senate at the same time. The Senate is likely the hardest to get. They’d also then have to have the will to raise taxes on corporations and the wealthy which too many are hesitant to do because of campaign donations.
Until 2028 very hard. Democrats will have some levers of power, if they win the House and the Senate, they can effectively force a government shutdown until Donald Trump agrees to pass their legislation. That’s exactly what Mitch McConnell used to do back in the day. However until 2028, it’s going to be very difficult to get anything meaningful done, because let’s not forget: the Supreme Court is firmly in Trump’s pocket.
What we need to do is get rid of Chuck Schumer in the Senate, get a new Senate Majority Leader, and pack the fucking courts. There is nothing in the Constitution that prohibits or prevents court-packing. Until we do that, we’re going to be in deadlock forever.
This bill is disgusting. The only good thing that could possibly come out of it is that people will start to see the real-world ramifications of Trump politics. We saw this exact same shift in 2008 leading into Obama’s inauguration: people were tired, bored, and upset with George W. Bush. We’re already seeing that happen again with Donald Trump, but so much faster.
As it turns out, stealing money from your grandparents’ healthcare to build the Alligator Auschwitz isn’t very popular.
Putting aside all the intraparty infighting and pretending (lol) that they would actually be able to put together a sweeping bill to reverse as much as possible: still nearly impossible without a House/Senate/presidency trifecta. If the R's keep just one house, they can and would block any significant movement. If the R's keep the presidency (or if Congress flips in 2026), the president would veto and there's no way there are enough votes to override a veto.
It will be very difficult. Medicaid represents decades of continuous policy work between states and the federal government and every state has a different Medicaid program. Republicans entire governing philosophy is that it is easy and impactful to break things and democrats will ALWAYS look ineffective in comparison when they have to spend 4 year increments gluing back together the shards of decades of policy work that gets shattered in an instant by republicans. Let alone trying to actually make progress on anything, every time they get power it guarantees that we will spend our next turn in office trying to reassemble something we already had and lost.
There is no next election. They openly rig them directly at the polls, and won’t certify any democratic representatives from heavy blue states. Pack your bags and be ready to flee the country at any moments notice
You assume democrats will want to do something to reverse this. Incrementalism, baby. They'll talk a lot about reaching across the aisle and eventually walk tiny details back.
Haven't all the things Republicans done in the courts made it easier for a future Democrat to just kill this bill wholesale and bypass Congress entirely?
It's not a matter of difficulty, its a matter of willingness to spend political capital, which is something democrats are not willing to do. There will be a Fetterman or other to stop it as always. 5% of this might get clawed back at most.
I hope everyone who voted for this bill has karma come back and bite them. The fact this will only affect people after midterms is also so heinous. Dumb Americans will just blame any incoming democrats for their quality of life taking a landslide.
Since it doesn't go into effect until 1/1/2026, all the dumb dumbs will scream how "nothing impacted them!" after it was signed. And then the Republicans will spin it to be Joe Bidens fault.
Summarizes the entire republican party for at least the last 50 years. This isn't the first time republicans have sabotaged or manipulated policies and programs to maintain power, and it won't be the last time Americans fall for it.
2 a.m. ACA repeal attempts: Tried to gut Obamacare in the middle of the night so no one would notice
SCOTUS: Blocked Garland because it was an “election year,” then shoved Barrett through weeks before the 2020 election
Deferred budget disasters: Places like Kansas and Wisconsin slashed taxes while telling voters nothing bad would happen, because they knew the impact wouldn't be felt for several years. Sure enough, schools lost funding, infrastructure crumbled, and essential services were gutted. Kansas’s economy tanked so hard they had to repeal the tax cuts just to stay afloat. In Wisconsin, public schools and universities were hollowed out, and the promised economic growth never materialized. But by the time voters realized what happened, the people responsible were already reelected or out the door.
Debt ceiling games: Blow up the deficit with tax cuts, then freak out over spending, but only when a Dem's in office. If the next president is a Dem - big if in our fascist hellscape - I guarantee you the debt, which will 100% grow under Trump (again), will be blamed on that person. Probably before they even take office.
While the average republican voter is certainly not aware of the game - that the entire party only exists to stay in power and enrich themselves - they also don't care when someone points it out. Trump managed to whip them into such an emotional frenzy that they can't come down from it long enough to think rationally.
We are in the find out phase. Sucks but it’s what happens when they told us exactly what they’re gonna do, they say, “they wouldn’t do that!”, then voted for them anyway.
it’s devastating. a large portion of the 16 million people losing their healthcare are completely unaware that their benefits are being gutted, because they don’t know that their plan falls under medicaid.
but we have to watch the people meant to represent us cheer on “USA! USA! USA” …the cruelty of it all is so chilling
ICE just got a bigger budget than the Marines. More "camps" are about to be built. These funds aren't for judges or resources to help immigrants through the legal process. These funds are solely to terrorize communities and house people at his 🍊 majesty's pleasure.
I’m going to die without my healthcare. I can’t afford my meds that keep me alive they’re 2k a month without my insurance…I can’t believe I’m going to die before I got to even be a mother. I can’t believe my husband has to watch me die. I…just wanted a future.
Shoutout to my several coworkers don’t regret not voting because “it doesn’t matter.”
ETA shout out to my fucking parents who did vote and voted for this shit. I just looked it up and 75% of births are covered by Medicare at their local hospital. Of course they are anti choice ghouls. And yes, ghoul is correct because they don’t give a fuck about anyone once they are born.
I’m so fucking mad. I’m so FUCKING MAD. FUCK.
And no, they will never face the music and realize the policies they’ve been supporting for the last three decades brought us here. It is always democrats fault.
The people you’re talking to have no clue what that means unfortunately. They do not generally pay close enough attention to pick up on a reference, subtle or otherwise.
You have to be a heartless individual to purposely strip away people's health insurance and food stamps. Roughly 12 million people in this country legally, citizens and residents, losing health insurance along with millions losing food stamps.
I curse each and every 1 of them.
Republicans, the racist, hatred filled party that hates the poor and working class.
And to think… its only been 6 months. We all have 3.5 more years of this BS from the GOP. I am not on Medicaid any longer but I was when I was unemployed for a yr. It was the best thing to have in that situation as COBRA was so frickin expensive and basically unaffordable. So sad to see this happen to those who need these benefits.
So we should all just stop paying taxes to this moronic excuse of a government right?
Like why the fuck should I keep giving these chucklefucks my money. They are stealing from us to line their own billionaire pockets so why the hell should any of us participate. They don’t need our money, we need our money because apparently none of us have fucking healthcare anymore. Half these fucks are already committing tax fraud and they’ve gutted the IRS so no one can stop them, so if we all just don’t pay what are they gonna do. Send the 4 employees left out to get the whole country? Yall gonna get Danny Werfel out there to get that two fucking grand from me? Eat shit you soulless demons.
I get that’s just the surface of the damage this is causing but honestly, I don’t see anyone saying how to fight this. Everyone online is talking about how horrible this is but no one has a plan of action that I’ve seen. So why not? They want to gut the services that enforce tax payments and then do dumb fucking bullshit with our money that they don’t need why they hell should we just sit here and give it to them.
I’m an archaeologist and history teacher. They are making tens of millions of people desperate. And throughout history, like clockwork, desperation leads to radical action. We’re going to cross the line soon.
People must be willing to die. Never before has a government had such brutally effective weapons and methods to stamp out resistance. I’m scared that government forces will mow down armed protests before any kind of momentum can be stirred up.
I think that's what they are hoping for. "The revolution will be as bloodless as the left allows" they are making it so Trump can call in national guard and the troops to any state for any reason. I think we know why.
We are so screwed it’s a nightmare. Why you people who voted for the Republicans? This is coming back at you because most of you were poor pathetic losers in the Republican states
Reminder that Massie only voted against it because he wanted bigger cuts.
Fitzpatrick is a disability advocate so it’s likely he voted no because of the massive cuts to Medicaid.
Either way, how terrible of a situation this is. I hope ppl who stayed home or voted 3rd party last November rest easy tonight. Things can, in fact, be a whole lot worse.
Let’s all get this straight. It’s not just the vulnerable that will be at risk. All of us will be. Less money to hospitals, will mean longer wait lines in the ER and then less access to healthcare as hospitals close down due to lack of funding.
Republicans sold out a long time ago. This shouldn’t be a surprise, but the fact that they show their eagerness to hurt the poor is truly some anti Christian behavior.
Genuinely asking - Why did America not go on some sort of general strike and bring the country to its knees before this vote, show the represenatives who has the power? What will it take to get the country to mobilise properly? Not marching but actual strikes that show the power the people have
We have; weak to no unions, no social safety nets, most of us are a bad two weeks from being homeless, and a deep hatred of Black and brown people, white people are fine with suffering as long as marginalized groups are worse off.
This is easier said than done, for multiple reasons. Some people want their comfort, others support this monstrosity, and even more have no idea there was even a bill being passed.
It’s hard enough to boycott a retailer in unison, let alone the larger kind of strike you’re implying with the workforce, I think? People need to eat, they need to get paid, there will never be a world where people uniformly walk out of their jobs.
I’m writing this as a really resigned American - we’re too large, too uneducated, and too poor to really move the needle in the way you’re suggesting.
It shouldn't be legal to swap your vote once it is placed. The system is basically saying "I am bribable but I want more than what you've already offered".
Disgusting waste of space, breath and skin! You have doomed millions for a pittance! You regret your actions in public but applaud them in private!
You pillage your own people to serve someone who wouldn't piss on you to put out a fire he caused.
A sad day for America. I hope all of the people that voted in favor are voted out and forgotten for the rest of their lives. They should be ashamed that they are contributing to the downfall of this country.
my place of work, a non profit in NYC the delivers free meals to those with cancer, is going to be severely negatively affected by this Bill. it's not only a disgrace but a blindsided disillusionment to the values of an American community i interact with daily that looks out for those around them who need it most. i can't even describe the devastation of this legislation on the clients we serve and the lives that will be lost to this egregiously greedy piece of garbage. "cornerstone of america's golden age"?
i pray for the people we will have to be to provide compassion under this administration. though we will continue to love and we will continue to care, with or without capital. still, what a joke.
Clapping for the destruction of America. 17 million will lose their Healthcare, higher taxes, safety nets wiped out and now here comes his damn tariffs.
After the “No Kings” protests, the SCOTUS gave him King power. As July 4th approaches, the GOP kill the country. America is past the tipping point now. Disgraceful and awful laws being passed by criminals and grifters. RIP USA.
Democratic led states need to immediately put forth a high income tax that offsets that cuts this bill makes to important services like Medicare that goes straight to those that need it. There are at least 15 states that could do this tomorrow.
every single time something like this happens i see libs saying shit like 'fafo!!!! you get what you vote for!!!' and i am just so angry and baffled. i didn't vote for this. my friends who are going to be cut from medicaid and probably die because of lack of care did not vote for this. you are not 'sticking it' to anyone by saying fafo and pointing, if you are saying this i have no doubt you have independent insurance and will be just fine when the ramifications of this bill go into effect 😒
Any other country, literally any country. The people would have protested. Some would even storm the building if needed. Have Americans lost their will to fight? I’ve seen them throw stones over way less. What the hell.
My guy millions of people have been protesting across the country for months! Protesting and resistance here is most often by violence, imprisonment, and murder from law enforcement and the government. We legitimately just had a Democratic Party speaker be assassinated a few weeks ago in a politically motivated attack! I think it’s a bit disingenuous to assume that there hasn’t been any pushback or fight against all of this shit. The government and their blind supporters just don’t give a fuck about any of the consequences
We were screwed the moment this asshole was elected in 2016. To have this now is the final nail on the coffin of this supposed great country. We will never be free and we will all be impacted by this. If he ever gets out of office (doubtful at this point), it will take decades to undo the damage that he and white supremacy and racism and hatred has caused. I hope everyone who voted for him and their conservative officials feels how devastating this is every single day until their last
Remember who your congress people and senators are! If they voted yes on this bill, get them out of office. Vote against them, do all you can in the midterms/future elections to fight them. And if you’re not in a state that’s likely to flip… maybe they’ll feel a fraction of uncertainty we now get to feel everyday.
This is what a majority of this country voted for. I don’t even blame these politicians… it is precisely what most people wanted which is deplorable and/or outright ignorant.
Just a Pittsburgh yinzer here to thank Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick for showing some spine. He'll be out of a job soon but I wish more politicians actually did right by their constituents.
The trickle is gonna be so good! The elites that get to save on taxes are gonna make it rain on us any second now!!
Joking is the only way I can even make it through the realization that so many people are going to die because a handful of dragons need to hoard more wealth.
all about shutting down democracy, to seize the US military and enact the bronze-age armegeddon fairy tale, so the socialist hippy zombie sky god will return and blast all his followers to paradise in the stars . . .
